Yorba Linda Public Library

I’ve been going to the library for about six years. Mostly with my son since he was a toddler for Saturday morning story time. It was great for the children, three stories and then an art and crafts sessions. The library also host several reading programs throughout the year that encourages children to read, and progress is rewarded with small toys or gift certificates to area restaurants. One of my favorites is the program sponsored by In n Out Burgers, the reward is a certificate for a cheeseburger… that means Dad get to eat something too! We visit weekly, and I started reading mysteries. I even signed up for the adult reading program and won a raffle, a guitar signed by Los Lobos! Whoo-​hoo! There is talk of the library being outdated, and a new one being built. I like the library the way it is, and the current location which is in downtown Yorba Linda. The library is a great place, and I’m pleased that my son loves to read!

This used to be a great library for studying but recent changes have made it unbearable. I don’t know who thought putting a Passport Office right next to the designated quiet area was a good idea.
Families needing passports come in and the kids get bored and start zooming around while the parents are trying to do the paperwork. The last afternoon I visited the library, one baby cried non-​stop for 35 minutes and later another baby cried non-​stop for 25 minutes. After that a family with older kids came in and the kids ran around and opened the emergency exit door, setting off the alarm.
It’s too bad b/​c this used to be a great library. Now I’ll have to find somewhere else to study.

I appreciate the children services. The staff are warm and friendly. The past summer programs featured magic shows, animal showcases and juggling acts.

This is a great little library. They used to be part of the Tri City library system (YL, Placentia, and Anaheim), but a few years back split off on their own. Despite it’s small size, there is plenty of material here and great programs. The little bookshop underneath the library is awesome too. I used to take our kids here often when they were smaller to get inexpensive books. Most books are 25c-​50c-​$ 1 and it all supports the library upstairs. I found out that an extended family member had been driving out here for a long while just to find 25c books to read. He said it was far cheaper than overdue fines since he took so long to read books! He’d buy a few books for 25c each, then read them at his leisure, then donate them back and get some more.
What I am most impressed with is that they are constantly ordering books and listen carefully when requests are put in. They are great about getting new books in series, but also if you find a missing book in the middle of a series, they are pretty quick about ordering it to complete the series. They’ve recently expanded their young adult section and made it much easier to access. Since my kids are older and into that section, it worked out perfect timing.
A HUGE plus — they have an almost complete set of the BSA Merit Badge books — the NEWEST releases. Great for checking out since you often need those for a short time. When I pointed out a few that were missing that we were searching for, the librarian began a quick list and said that she would go through them since some had been released recently and they wanted to have a full set. Sometime those took a little longer to get since someone had to drive down to the Scout shop to get them.
Love the digital library! Very easy to check out books and request access to new ones. Just recently I discovered that a series I was in the middle of did not have the last book in «book» form, but only in the audio version. There is a place to click and put a request in, as well as to automatically check it out when the library gets it. The book added to the digital library within the week and I was able to continue my series.
I’ve requested several books to be added to the digital library over the past year or two — mostly to complete series or spin-​off series of books the digital library has and I’ve been in the middle of, and many have been quickly added to be able to check out. That’s awesome!
Another great thing is their DVD checkouts. Very inexpensive to check out DVDs for 10 days, and sometimes you can get free coupons for participating in the summer reading program. For YL residents, it’s 2for 1, so for $ 1.50 you get 2 videos for a week and a half! A bargain by any standards. Be prepared to get in line for the new releases though and go in early if you want something for a holiday weekend or school break.
Another great thing is being able to check out Wii games. It’s a great way to try out new games before buying them. It has saved us from buying some games that were only so-​so, but still fun to play a few times.

Growing up in Yorba Linda and always going to this library, I was raised and taught to stay quiet while in any part of the library. The selection of books is still amazing and now with their new DVD and audio sections, I am amazed how many books are no longer printed.
The only reason I gave a 4 star instead of 5 is because of the kids section. I have 2 boys and stressed to them the importance of being quiet while others read, searched for books and/​or did homework. When we gor upstairs, I was baffled and disappointed about the noise volume of the other kids up there. Some where talking so loud that I couldn’t hear my boys asking me questions. Their parents were there and just let them yell or be obnoxious. Since this was my boys first time, we quickly grabbed two books each and left. Even they were surprised how loud it was and complained.
Downstairs at the checkout counter, I commented on the noise volume upstairs. All they really said was that with kids they are easier on the rules for them. To me, kid, young adult, adult or senior, you should use a respectable volume of talking, just as you’d hope others would do.
Call me crazy if you like, but if I ever acted the way some of these kids did, I would’ve been in trouble by my parents.
We will obviously return to check out more books and research rather than using Google for everything. I just hope in the future, my boys have a more pleasant visit there.

Quaint little library perfect for a study sesh.
I’ve come here several times to study when I’m in town to visit my boyfriend. There are different sections in the library with tables and chairs, private little nooks where you can sit and read, a section with desktop computers, and a table where you can plug in and use your own laptop. There are plenty of places to sit and get comfortable; however, you won’t find very many outlets to plug in your computer, so come prepared either by bringing a fully charged laptop or keeping a vigilant eye out for an available outlet.
At times, the library is swarming with little ones because they host various events and activities for the kids, but they always seem to be able to maintain an acceptable noise level, making it a great study spot for someone like myself, who likes to study in an environment where there is SOME noise, but not enough that I would find it disruptive. Be mindful of the fact that this is a community library that caters to a much younger crowd, so be prepared for an often times full parking lot and kids running around. I personally don’t mind just because I consider it a healthy distraction.
Truth be told, it’s not the most modern, technically-​savvy library, and it could probably use a few minor renovations, but it has a very home-​y feel to it, which I love. I easily get hours upon hours of uninterrupted studying done here on a Saturday afternoon.
There’s wi-​fi that works well, plenty of off-​street parking if the lot gets full, and several shopping plazas walking-​distance from the library in case you get thirsty or hungry mid-​studying. Keep in mind that they do close early in the evening during the weekend, so don’t expect to pull an over-​nighter here!

It is my first time being at the Yorba Linda Public Library. I spent three hours studying here and I can say it was pretty quiet. They have one study room and also they have a laptop station for you to work and charge your laptop. The laptop station is right beside the scanner and copier station.
I gave it a ⁵⁄₅ for level of quietness and resources. It’s not the best library in the world but it has the amenities you need. Oh yes, I will warn you though that the chairs have no cushion on the bottom and they are made out of wood so prolong sitting will definitely take a toll. In my opinion, the library decorations have a resemblance to the era of Richard Nixon because the Nixon Museum is near by and Yorba Linda would like to keep it close to Nixon as possible. I would recommend it to family/​friend.

When I am feeling a shopaholic binge coming on, this past year, the library has been a wonderful option that is way more healthy and way less costly! I leave with an armload of books and a smile on my face. Not bags of things I can’t afford and a sick/​nervous feeling in my stomach!

This library is fantastic! The kids section is wonderful, there is a huge selection of movies, books and magazines aimed at even little kids, which is rare. Their storytimes are great and the little room they have them in is adorable! My daughter participated in the Stuffed Animal Sleepover and I cannot rave enough about the video that was made of it… she got such enjoyment from watching all the fun her «teddy» had at the library. For the adults, it’s nice to have such a huge selection of books on CD and even Wii games that rent for FREE. The customer service is also fantastic.

This is a wonderful library. For being small, they have a large selection of books and materials. It’s not crowded at all, and the librarians are very helpful.
The children’s section is great, with a couple toys for the kiddos.
I’ve looked up lots of different types of books — psychology, young adult fiction, biographies, and they had all the books I needed.
They allow you to renew books online, so you don’t have to stress about late fees!
I’m impressed with this lil’ library. My children love to come here, borrow books, and continue to foster a love of reading.

In an age of i-​everything, it’s cool to find that there are stil buildings that pay homage to the history of the written word presented in a much more tactile manner: books.
Sure, I have a Kindle. I also have an iPad, an iPhone, a PC, and so on. However, there is still something magical about being able to hold the full breadth of an author’s written contribution. For instance, I’m reading War and Peace right now. (It was a dare from our kiddo.) This book on Kindle just would not have the same magic. Without holding the full paper version in one’s hands, it’s hard to truly experience the depth of this literary contribution. The heft and feel of this book make it an experience before you even open the cover.
With a kiddo in school who had reading goals, we have found ourselves to be repeat customers of the Yorba Linda library. It’s a place where she gets to explore and discover new worlds, old history, and exciting mysteries. If there was a frequent flyer program here, we’d be Gold.
The librarians here are wonderful with kids. We send our little reader up the stairs to the kids section first, trailing behind her so that she is in the lead on this adventure. The librarians are kind and helpful when she asks questions. They are willing to spend time by giving book suggestions or looking up AR levels to help guide her to the right next book. A book chosen, we then follow our little reader downstairs where she checks the book out on her own. Mostly, the staff doesn’t talk down to her but instead treats her like the capable reader that she is.
This library is small. That is part of the charm. It’s not hard to get around and there are rarely lines. If you want music, they have that. They also have movies. They offer reading clubs for kids and adults alike. Mostly for us, it’s just a fun place to explore and to remember that all that is valuable in the world doesn’t have to plug in.

I guess that keeps people here for a shorter period of time? I’ts rather inconvenient. The canyon hills public library makes an effort in this regard.

Visiting my first OC library after visiting LA county libraries, I loved the children’s section here by comparison. It was appealing to the eyes of the young and young adults. ^_^
We were here for a field trip w/​my daughters class and Miss Amy was amazing keeping the toddlers entertained and involved w/​her story telling. The visuals, the music & keeping the kids active were right on for their age level.
The only thing I wasn’t happy about was that you can only check out books from that particular library w/​their card. I’m not sure how the OC libraries run but I was told in LA county, I can check out books from any library w/​a LA County library card. I could be mistaking but otherwise, this library was really appealing for my kid.
The parking lot is small in the front, so you have to drive around to find an area to park.

I’ve been coming here a lot recently, and I’m quite pleased that I have such a nice library so close to home.

Quiet and Nice, how a library should be. Great for studying (my primary reason of coming)

The librarians are super helpful. Not only did the librarian write down the call numbers I needed, but also walked with me and found all the books.
— Selection:
The few times I actually needed to get books for research purposes I was able to find relevant books that helped a lot.

The lighting is a bit too dim for my taste. So when you’re studying pretty boring material you can find yourself getting a bit sleepy. However when you’re cramming for an exam, I’m sure you can hold off on the sleep.

Visiting this good library simply rekindled my first love to reading paper books. I’ve been all digital for many years. but once inside. browsing. picking one book after another. I got hooked to reading again… my whole family love reading. from parents to children to grandchildren, we all read. all the time… now I’m back to carrying a book in my hand, spending many hours, even till dawn, reading…

For a little library, their selection is awesome! There have been a few books I have looking for and I was shocked to find that they had them. Plus you can check out 10 cds at a time, compared to 5 at the Orange library. Score!

Ok, kids, seriously. Have you noticed the economy lately? The fact that this library even manages to continue to exist amazes me. They may not have been able to renovate, and it’s possible they have some furlough days, but they do (contrary to another review) provide free wifi, and keep their doors open year after year.
Those of us that grew up in the YL remember toddling through those pink doors as kids, and now we have the opportunity to go back as adults. Think the library needs some work? Buy a $ 1 book from Friends of the Library. Heck, just put $ 5 in the donation box. They can’t fix anything without funding from the state, and one thing the state ain’t got is funding. Chip in what you can, and help make the library somewhere we can bring our own toddling children a few years down the line.

I used to check out books and study at this library when growing up. Now, still growing up, I bring my children here to read and learn. We enjoy the wide variety of books for both adults and children. Not to mention the selection of CD’s and DVD’s as well. Oh yeah, they also have free Wi-​Fi! What a bonus if you want to get some work done while there.
My only complaint, and maybe because I am in the children’s section a lot, is it tends to be a little loud. Maybe the parents should work on keeping some of their kids quieter or the library staff can kindly remind people, but either way, I am a fan. I’ll be there often reading and teaching my kids.
