Napa Valley Bike Tours & Rentals

We opted for the half day guided bike tour and it was a great decision! Our tour guide Rick knew so much about the area, the winemaking process and how to give an informational yet fun tour. We stopped at two wineries, Materra and Domaine Chandon. They were great choices because Materra had red and whites included in their tasting and the grounds of Chandon were beautiful and after almost a 20 mile bike ride a nice cold glass of sparkling wine was perfect. The tastings were each $ 25 per person but Rick made sure we knew it was completely fine if we wanted to split one and save money. He also carried our wine purchases for us! I’m happy we went on our first full day in Napa to get familiarized with the area. Will be back!

A friend organized a group ride for 10 of us. We met up in the morning, did a short spin out to the fields and got a nice explanation about the region and wine growing, then over to Domain Chandon for tasting. After that, we road down to Monticello Winery and had lunch on the patio and enjoyed their wine. Then back for the return. Half day all told, and wonderful for riders and not-​to-​recent riders alike. North, out tour guide, was fantastic. I highly recommend this place.\

Just went to Napa Bike Tours at the Napa Warehouse to rent some bikes. They have a great selection of Specialized road and hybrid bikes, all well maintained. The warehouse manager, Buck, was so professional and helpful, we ended up buying 2 used bikes. A great deal and a great experience.

I was riding my bike and I felt that my tires needed a little air. I stopped by the shop to get some little care. Without hesitation, they took a look and checked my tires. The front one needed a little air. They didn’t ask for anything else. Great shop and attention!!! Thank you!!!

I had such an amazing time in Napa on bikes!
My partner and I rented bikes to ride around Napa on our own. The shop employees were really friendly and super helpful in helping us choose a route that would work best while leaving a few open ended options on the ride. They were very sure to tell us which parts of the path would have more car traffic, which areas would involve riding against the wind, and places to stop to get water or stop for snacks.
The maps were very straight forward and easy to follow. We took a 17-​mile easy loop and those 2 hours flew right by us. I encourage bikers to stay less along the freeways for the best scenic views. We really enjoyed our time out there and are looking forward to coming back and maybe even doing a guided tour next time.
Tips:
Take allergy medicine. I was sneezing nonstop!

Living in SF, I absolutely love wine touring via limousine or party bus. But, if you can stay the night in Yountville and do a bike tour, this is the way to go.
First off, the people working at the bike rental shop are so fun and friendly. They ask you what you’re looking to do and will give a great recommendation based off it. My family wanted to hit 3 wineries and bike about 15 miles. She recommended a great loop — we stopped at Cliff Lede, Silver Oak, and Napa Wine Co.
Second, biking and wine tasting is a totally different experience. On a bike, you get to take in the absolutely beautiful scenery of vineyards and rolling hills. You probably won’t (shouldn’t) drink as much as you would if you were in a limo, but you’ll see Napa in a totally different way.
I’m hooked on Napa bike tours and I’ll definitely be back.

We had 5 women on the Ride through the vineyards. Paul, our guide was wonderful! He was knowledgable about the area, wineries and biking trails. In fact, while we tasted, he would go bike the route to watch for muddy areas, unstable terrain, etc and warn us of these areas
We had two huge mishaps on our end (I locked the keys in my rental car) and co-​guide Dennis happily took me to meet the AAA guy with the car
The bikes were great and all the gears made for climbing the hills much easier
I would definitely do this tour again and would ask for Paul and Dennis! Was a great time!

Had called a few times. Shop right smack in the middle of town and rear of parking lot. Same company apparently 2 locations: Yountville and Sonoma. Bikes easy to ride: light, number of adjustable gears, pocket in front to carry water, snacks and map. Easy to get around although I read the map backwards, still lots of fun though we rode in the opposite direction to our destination.
Weather was great, spring flowers all in bloom. All so colorful.

I booked at this place for 3 (way in advance). Couple of my friends are from Europe (first time in CA) and they are just an avid fitness geeks (sorry Arlene and Bally haha)… They also want to experience Napa in a more non traditional way like on a bike (of course)…Included in the package is a tour guide, bike rental, and bike tour that will take you to wine tasting .
I received a call from the staff that the day I picked has 50−60% rain weather forecast. The call also was letting me know that i can actually have a whole day tour instead of half with lunch included if we changed the day… well I asked my European friends the alternative… they told me rain or shine .we should do the bike tour as planned and they don’t have the time. because they have to do an Ultrathon at Marin Headlands and CIM (California International Marathon) the coming weekend. so we were stuck at doing the Thursday bike instead of a Friday (yikes for me and scary too)
Well​.it wasn’t raining when we started… we got our bike tour guide and was able to make it to one wine tasting place (Paraduxx) …I think we had a good tour and good workout =P and got wet .but it started pouring more while we were inside Paraduxx. really pouring… so our bike tour changed to just van touring… but let me tell you… the van touring wasn’t bad at all… the tour guide (Mike) was very informative and even took the tour all the way to Calistoga =).very cool indeed…
My friends and I appreciate the alternative (bummed a little because my fitness geek friends really want that bike workout thing (more intense)…but the experience was awesome and highly recommended. We will try it again… maybe next time they come back here in CA…

My boyfriend and I decided on the cheapest option: $ 45 per person to rent a hybrid bike for the day, and we mapped out our own route completely without the help of the tour company. Choosing this option also meant we had to pack our own picnic lunch (which was fine — we packed some sandwiches from the grocery store), and did not have the option for the van to pick up our wine purchases behind us (also fine, since we didn’t plan on buying any wine).
I enjoy planning this type of thing, so it wasn’t a big deal for me. But I will say it requires some research to pick which wineries you want to stop at along the route.
Planning the bike ride: Once I booked the bikes, the company sent me a map of the different bike routes. We chose the Stags Leap loop, which was 14 miles. I had never ridden 14 miles in my life, so I was really nervous if I would make it! But it ended up being perfect. (I would say my boyfriend and I are somewhat active, and moderately in shape). There are few hills, mostly flat roads which made the ride very enjoyable.
Picking the wineries: I used Google maps and Unilocal/​Trip Advisor to help me out — I tried to pick wineries that were decently spaced out along the route, to make sure we were making good progress throughout the day while also getting breaks in between. But the other factors that came into play were price and appointment availability. Surprisingly on the Stags Leap route, I didn’t find many wineries with tastings less than $ 25…so it ended up being a little on the pricier side. I saw on other routes there were tasting rooms for $ 15.
We started the day early with a 10:00 –11:30am appointment at Pine Ridge (4 miles from the shop), where we did a $ 50 tour of the vineyard, caves, and wine and cheese pairing. This was a great way to start the day because they offered a brief overview of Napa history, geography, and explained the grape growing and wine making progress. It was pretty pricey, but I felt it was worth it. Even if you don’t visit this winery, I would encourage you to start the day with a winery tour rather than just the standard tasting which leaves you confined to the tasting room.
Our next appointment was at Clos Du Val (1.8 miles) where we had a 12:00 picnic table reservation ($ 5) to have lunch. This is one of the few wineries that is licensed to host picnic lunches, so you must reserve ahead of time. We ended up arriving a little early since it was so close to Pine Ridge, and they were able to accommodate us. We purchased a half bottle of wine to drink with lunch (maybe $ 20?) and then did a tasting afterwards ($ 25).
We then headed to Laird family winery (4 miles), they do not require reservations. We really enjoyed this winery — they guys who worked there ended up giving us double tastings of everything, which was a nice touch. Tastings were between $ 20 – 30. As you can imagine by this point, I’m feeling quite drunk.
Our final reservation was at Bell Wine Cellars (3 miles). We had a 3pm reservation which we were late for –and for this winery in particular, they start the tasting with a group of about 15 people, so they don’t wait for you. The tasting was inside the giant warehouse where they make and store the wine, and it was very noisy. We could barely hear the wine guide. Overall, our least favorite winery.
From the last winery we rode 1.5 miles back to the bike shop. Since the shop is located right near lots of restaurants, we had made a reservation for 5pm.
Here’s some tips:
*Yes, drunk bike riding is illegal, but you’ll be fine as long as you’re in control. Just don’t be stupid and draw attention to yourself. I found that on the parts of the routes that didn’t have bike lanes, the cars would go around and leave you with a safe amount of space.
*Pack water, and don’t forget to drink it (like I did!)
*If you want to get more wine that what you paid for, use the phrase «I’d like to revisit that wine», or ask «Are there any wines not on the tasting menu that I just have to try?»
*Wear layers! We went in May and I was fine with a long sleeved athletic shirt over a tank top.
*Start the day early to get the most out of it.

I really like this business: it seems like a small, very knowledgable, and super friendly staff. They recommended a good route for myself (a cyclist), my sister (does not ride), and my 8 year old niece (rides a bike at home): not too long, very little time on busy streets, and very pretty! My only complaint is that the «kids bike» they provided was way too big for my niece, which made starting and stopping more difficult than it should have been. Overall, a good ride!

This is a MUST when you visit Napa! I have been to Napa twice and did a «Rent & Roll On Your Own» for both trips.
Make sure to have a good night’s rest before you decide to engage in this experience! Also, pack some protein bars as you might need it to help alleviate soar muscles the next day (well worth it!)
As soon as I approached the front desk they presented me with different bike options. I went with their hybrid bikes for both visits. They handed me a bike that fit my height and a helmet to go with it. For my first visit, they included butt cushions for my husband and I. For my second visit, (went with 2 other couples) they only provided the ladies butt cushions. I highly recommend getting these cushions male or female, just get them! The front desk employees were very welcoming. They showed us the map with different trails that we could choose from. They circled recommended wineries to visit while doing the trails.
Trails we took:
For my first visit there, my husband and I attempted to take on the «Stags Leap /​Oak Knoll Loop» (13miles). I don’t know how we managed to get lost even when we were provided with a very detailed map, but we did! Getting lost wasn’t such a bad thing though as we were able to enjoy scenic vineyard views! Also, we started late so we only had time to stop at one winery for a tasting and had to back track to make it back to return our bikes by 5pm.
For my second visit there, my husband, myself, and 2 other couples rolled out and took the «Oakville Loop» (12 miles). This time we were able to finish the whole loop. We were only able to stop at one winery as we didn’t start as early as we should have. This ride was very scenic! The loop takes you through quiet roads with views of vineyards. It did get a bit scary as we had to bike by the highway (with bike lanes)… the cars seem to just speed by and there is one part where the bike lane turns into a thin painted line (on the bridge). I suggest you wait for the cars to clear before you bike over the bridge… (you’ll see what I mean).
Overall, if you like to be outdoors and enjoy some physical activity paired with wine tasting, then this is the place for you!
Get there early so that you can hit more than one winery, enjoy the scenery and have time for pictures.

My wife and I took a weekend trip to Napa for our anniversary and wanted to take a day to tool around some wineries on bikes. Napa Valley Bike Tours did a great job for us (note the verbiage — as with many things, YMMV).
I booked online — mostly simple (I’m able to fill out a form with the best of folks), and prices were reasonable (certainly as good or better than other options). When we arrived to pick up the bikes, there was a bit of chaos in the store (early AM — lots of folks picking up) and a bit of confusion as we were passed around from associate to associate. Whatever — within 10 minutes we had our bikes. And that was it. (here’s the «great job for us» bit.) There wasn’t any overview of where might be a good place to ride, there wasn’t any instruction on how to use the bikes, and/​or fitting/​adjustments to the bikes to ensure they fit us. But… I’m a bit OCD so had a plan and map, and my wife and I are both very experienced riders so could set up our own bikes. Maybe the sales associate knew that?
Regardless, exactly what we needed, hence the five stars.
More pertinent info; the bikes were like new. Much better than I expected. No issues at all; came with helmets, front bags, and a lock (one for the two of us).
When we returned the bikes, it was a simple matter of dropping them off and walking away. Again — I expected more (signing credit slip, bike examination, other red tape?), but it was easy and simple. Yay.
Overall, good stuff. We’ll definitely use them again when in town. (Note — we had the hybrids, but I wouldn’t hesitate to rent road bikes from them based on our experience.)

My Father’s one request for the Napa trip… we do some biking. Sounded awfully strange to me, I figured he’d seen this in a movie and decided it must be done!
After some negotiation I talked him into letting us do a half day biking tour instead of a full one (how in shape does he think we are? lol) which actually turned out to be amazing! If you’re in Napa and looking to combine some wine and exercise and a little fun, look no further than Napa Valley Bike Tours!
Like I mentioned, we did the half day in the morning. Arrived at their Yountville location at 9am, found our bikes ready — including a snack bar and souvenir water bottle filled for the ride, we did a little seat adjustments and we were off for the ride with Joan, our fearless leader who will leave you mesmerized with her stories of biking around the world!
I had told them ahead of time of which wineries were on our list so they made sure to take us to different stops. Stop one — A wine tasting room, and Stop Two — Saddleback Cellars Winery (you can read my review separately). But these were both good stops. Keep in mind the bike tour price does NOT include any tasting fees along the way.
Some of the trip did consist of riding along Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail, but I never once felt unsafe as the bike lanes are pretty wide, and really most of the trek was along side roads with amazing views. There were a few uphill ride points, but for the most part it was a really smooth ride and I walked away not sore at all nor tired considering we did about 12 miles!
They do also have a support van that will pick you up at any point if you decide the riding is too much, or will pick up any wine you purchase along the way. We only got one bottle and found it was safe enough in the bike’s front pocket.

I recently took the bike tour of the wineries and on another day rented a road bike. The wine tour was fabulous. Our guide Stephanie was knowledge and personable. My non-​cycling girlfriend had a sore butt at the end and gave me some lip about riding 17 miles but by the end was very happy.
I recommend you eat something before you head out on the wine tour. We were very hungry by the time lunch rolled around. Lunch by the way was great… sandwich and salad hit the spot.
We were even able to leave our jacket at the winery for the support van to pick up. It was a little chilly when we set off that morning. There was only 1 hill the entire 17 miles.
I then rented a brand new Specialized Roubaux road bike for my own excursion. Great opportunity and a checked box on my bucket list. The route i selected with the help of Napa bikes and garmin connect was hillier than I would have liked. There are a good many hills in the Napa Valley. If your not a hill climber stick to the central support area as it is flatter.

The absolute BEST way to visit wine county. If I brought my own bike on a trip to Napa OR if I was a local, that would be my means of transportation for sure.
Napa Valley Bike Tours employees were very kind and most certainly helpful. Call them ahead of time if you want to book a half or full day tour with them, for neither all always available everyday (it depends on those who register!) But, it definitely possible to do your own thang – what me and my best friend did!
We arrived there at opening and realized that there was only a full day tour for over $ 100, and we weren’t really feeling that. The employees kindly told us that available would be a «Self Guided Tour with Support» for about $ 90 and we thought that was still pretty pricey. At that time, the employees offered us our last choice which was to rent the bikes solely and we would be on our own in terms of visiting the wineries and giving ourselves a tour of our own. We liked that idea very much! Especially since the price was almost knocked down by half. We paid $ 45 each for 4 hours+. A 2 hour bike ride would $ 35 each. (We ended up biking for 4 hours and visited 3 wineries!)
Might I mention, we were not completely alone. Napa Valley Bike Tours provided us with an in depth map of Napa County with surrounding wineries. There were almost 5 – 6 routes we can take – we decided to take the blue one, if you get a chance to look at the map! :)

This was an amazing experience and a GREAT workout. Tiring for sure, and after the second winery, you really start to feel the alcohol in your veins. Make sure to stay hydrated (with water!) and take breaks– safety and health is priority! It was also reassuring to know that if we gave them a call (number provided on map) that they could pick us up if we didn’t feel like biking back AND/​OR if anything happened to our bikes, mexhanical-​wise!

This place is located right in Yountville and is easy to find. There’s some limited parking you can use in their lot, or some street parking behind the place. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is a bit pricey, but everything in this part of Napa is.
We had a great time on our bikes, and appreciated the maps and advice. I think the charges to have them send lunch and offer the wine pickup service area bit high, so we chose not to use those.

Truly one of the best ways of touring Napa!
There’s something special about immersing yourself within the vineyards with a friendly assemble of folks. I hadn’t been on a bike in more than a decade, but to my surprise, did fairly well on our 13-​mile ride through Calistoga. Our guide told us we’d be keeping to a «casual» pace. A lady in our group decided early on that the fitness level was «too much» and ended up riding in the van the rest of the way. In the six+ hours on the tour, we hit up three vineyards (Markham, Benessere, Twomey), stopped at Benessere with a picnic lunch by Yountville Deli– GOURMET DELICIOUSNESS… like many reviews, we were caught off guard by how great our gourmet lunch turned out.
Had super nice tour guides (both were local school teachers) with great tips and info about the area, with van support around whenever we needed it.
*Wear closed toed shoes
*Sunscreen is a MUST!
*There’s a pouch on the bikes to stow small items (purse, phone, camera, etc)– otherwise your large backpack can go safely in the van
*You get a free waterbottle that snaps on the bike. I had a camelbak– which I thought was more convenient during the ride and at different vineyards
I’m glad we did the guided tour, but next time I’d be willing to come back and try self-​guided.
