Budget Towing & Emergency Road Service

I would give them no stars if I could. They are scam artists. I was parked legally in a public lot, and from what I gather, they decided to tow my car to make an extra buck. Then they called the cops to report my car as illegally parked. Neither the tow company nor the cops could explain how I was illegally parked, and I wasn’t issued a parking ticket. Regardless, I had to pay $ 250 cash to get my car back (which is also suspicious because they are legally required to accept credit cards). The woman at the desk was incredibly rude. Do not give them your money!

Thank you to Justin H. for rescuing me with a tank of gas while stranded on the expressway with my 83 year old mother in law. You were prompt, professional and helped guide us back to the expressway by keeping your lights on and safely blocking the lane for a few seconds so I could get back on the road. From the time of my call to being back on the road was very quick and I greatly appreciate the professional service!

These past couple months have been hell so of course my car dies, too. Then there’s the added stress of how to save money while towing the darn thing, and hoping some dude isn’t going to try and rip me off because a) I look younger than I am, b) I’m a female, c) I don’t have experience towing my car.
Budget came through and assuaged all those fears, though. Super friendly and efficient phone operator — quoted me $ 50 for the hookup, $ 4 per mile after that. Said the tow truck would be there in 30 minutes.
Sure enough, 30 minutes later, guy pulls up, also super friendly, hooks my VW Golf up in about 60 seconds flat (without making me nervous about scratching, denting, or damaging my car in any way — very smooth maneuverings, he could probably do it with both eyes closed and one hand tied behind his back). I hop in his car — banter a bit — get to my house and he parks it perfectly, with the same amount of ease, gently but swiftly. Awesome.
Charges me exactly the distance (2.5 miles) without rounding up. He phones in my credit card. I sign the paper. And am on my merry way.
So easy. Towing was almost enjoyable. Not that I would want to have another ‘opportunity’ to tow my car, but if I have to, I’ll be calling Budget again.

For the second time today I’ve had to use these guys and they are professional and quick. My roadside service told me they would be arriving at my place in 45 minutes and it only took them 10. Same thing the last time I called and used them. Highly recommend.

Do not call them!!! You will end up paying about $ 400 dollars. Seriously, they rip you off.

Whenever I have needed emergency roadside assistance, I have always been able to depend on the professional services provided by Budget Towing. They are always prompt and courteous, and show up on time when I have called them. Moreover, they are upfront and honest about their prices, unlike other towing companies in the Ypsilanti area that like to quote you one price on the phone, and then hand you a bill in person that resembles the national debt by comparison.
I highly recommend Budget Towing over anyone else in the area. They have a complete fleet of wreckers including regular duty, heavy duty and flatbeds. From a VW Bug to a large semi-​truck, they can tow it safely to your destination.

After living in Ypsi and Ann Arbor for almost 8 yrs (and being a somewhat irresponsible, eh, illegal parker for most of my time there) I have had my fair share of dealings with Budget.
They scam you, their prices are made up by the moment and they are just plain shady. Don’t trust them with your car, do not give them your business. And if you happen to fall victim to your car being towed by them I hope for your sake you are able to retrieve it IMMEDIATELY. Regardless, even if you literally get to their lot as the truck is pulling up with your car, they will still charge you some ridiculous amount.
Love how one night I went to pick up my car (yes, after it was towed, once again) and they had their baby sitting on the FILTHY counter, in nothing but a diaper, eating Cheeto’s, at 1am. niiiiiice.

I had the opposite experience from the previous reviewer, although my tow job was admittedly much simpler. I just needed my Volkswagen Golf towed from my driveway in Ypsilanti to Howard Cooper’s on State Street in Ann Arbor. The person on the phone was really friendly, the tow truck driver was really friendly, the truck arrived at my house about 10 minutes after I called them, and the service only cost $ 81. I was expecting it to be at least $ 100. They charge $ 45 for the hookup of a vehicle this size and then $ 5 a mile, which seems much more fair than a flat fee. Let’s face it; we have to pay a reasonable amount of money for an on-​call service that requires expensive equipment and employee know-​how. I would definitely call them again if I ran into more trouble.
