great customer service. great owners. they treated us like their own son and daughter(then again, we’re koreans, so i guess they favored us a bit) i wish the soon du bu had more vegetables but other than that, everything was awesome :)

This place is such a hidden gem in Ypsi! Definitely on the outskirts of downtown and has an unimpressive exterior. HOWEVER, the interior is cute and the service is great! The food was so unexpectedly good! The japchae was my favorite, but our party ordered a whole bunch of things that were great. I will definitely come again!

Hana may not be in the best location, but the Korean food they serve as well as the restaurant environment(very clean, well organized, and properly spaced tables) deserve recognition. First off, their ban chan is among the best in the area and include marinated tofu, kimchi, fried tofu, and various types of pickled radish. They are not shy about refilling their ban chan, which is certainly a plus. The gf ordered the Ahl jikae, which came with huge chunks of delicious fish eggs, plenty of veggies and tofu in a spicy soup that was perfect for the Michigan winter. I ordered the Pork bokkum(spicy pork), which was quite the generous portion, but ended up being the only disappointment of the night. While the dish didn’t hold back on the amount of meat and onions, the level of spice and flavor wasn’t enough and felt like something that I could have made at home. I really want to give this place 5 stars, but it may just have to wait until my next visit.

Loved it! Came here couple times 2 weeks in a row :) Legit Korean food, family owned, good service(fast). Small ban chan plates were so delicious :)

Do not let the location or outside of this place fool you– this is an amazing place to eat. The lady who was waiting on the entire restaurant greeted us and was efficient in bringing us tea and water. The menu is great, lots of good choices. We had a noodle dish that was absolutely excellent, and the kalbi(Korean ribs). The ribs were do die for. I could not believe how good the food was there! Yes it is a little pricey but not unlike what you would pay for ribs anywhere else. I cannot wait to go back here and have recommended the place to a ton of my friends!

Very good food, with generous servings. But no Kim Bop, WTH?

Stupidly good. It looks like a little dive out on Michigan Ave but the friendliness and amazing food will have you coming back time and again. Banchan is delightful and the bulgogi was some of the best I’ve ever had.

This is my family’s favorite local restaurant, by far. We have been coming here for years! We have settled on the following favorite dishes: Kanpoongki(chicken wings) — so crispy, with a sauce that I can’t get enough of Pork Bulgogi — make sure to get it spicy, as milder spice will result in less flavor overall; It’s on a sizzling plate. Those are fun. Chicken Bokkum(spicy chicken stir fried with onions) — try it! so good. Kalbi(short ribs) — a classic Korean dish. It’s a bit pricey here, but it’s worth it. We’ve also enjoyed the soon dubu, japchae, and a few more whose names I can’t remember. The side dishes are plentiful and very tasty. You can ask for refills for these any time. There’s a good mix of spicy and non-spicy here if you ever need some relief.

Service is consistently great, banchan is so tasty(and apparently unlimited!?!), and I’ve started having dreams about the veggie and tofu soup. I can’t begin to contain my love for this place.

Man!!! Great Korean food, it’s like going to mom and dads house and having them make whatever you want! This place is quiet and a great place to your kids, if you want to have a good hearty meal but don’t want to feel embarrassed about them screaming and yelling. It’s like a rare gem hole in the wall! I had the Soon Tubu soup(spicy) w/big chicks of pork and my husband had the Beef Bibipmap we left there feeling so full! We will definitely be going back to this place again!

Decent prices. More side dish selection than Rich JC in Ann Arbor. Would be a 3 star place anywhere else, but this is the midwest and it’s a good place if you’re really craving Korean food.

I took off one star because when you pull up it doesn’t seem that great of a place. Also it doesn’t really have the korean barbeque at the table which doesn’t really bother me. The food was tasty and flavorful. The staff was warm and accommodating. I’m glad I drove the hour to sample it. I would be back.

I’m sorry this was my favorite spot to eat next to 12 mile and telegraph. I moved away last years. Today I returned for my mom’s birthday I ordered her the bulgogi a well known dish. It was so tuff and flavorless the normal sprouts and onions where missing. Had to ask for side dishes that come and was told that’s was extra if carry out… Got home tasted more like rough sliced beef roast then bulgogi… I’ll pass from now on with Hana… S\n We order it to go because restaurant seems awful

Like everyone else I was initially deterred by the appearance of the restaurant but decided to go because of the great reviews. I’m so glad I went because it was the BEST Korean food I have ever had at a restaurant. My mother is Korean and she and my grandma make amazing Korean food so I’m a little spoiled when it comes to Korean food and I usually don’t go out for Korean but I’m so glad I did. I had the bi bim bap and my boyfriend had the chop chae and it was delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try some more of there stuff now that I know what they bring to the table. The service was great and the food came out super fast. We were the only ones there so that might have had some influence on it but I was still impressed. It was also a huge portion for a really reasonable price. It was about $ 27 with the 20% tip.

Time for updated review… their food is still great; the flavors are still there, as well as the family service… Couple of changes over the years though… — they added few more dishes to the menu — the portion size has been downsized… — the price has gone up on lot of their dishes, especially the bokkum dishes(stir-fried items) Even with the portion sizes been reduced, you still get your moneys worth with all the home made banchans.

The deserted look of this placed scared me off for quite awhile. I was stupid. I know better now. This place deserves your business. Very nice banchan. Tasty bibimbop. The bulgogi and kalbi well seasoned and happy. Chap chae is especially good here. The mandu is crispy and well filled. Soups are warm, hearty and filling. It feels like Korean home cooking to a non Korean girl who has no claims on any real expertise. No complaints on the food at all though. Good portions, fair prices. The outside is not terribly inviting, inside is fairly basic but filled with a feeling of a family run business. Friendly people, not always horribly efficient. Occasionally harried but only because of the small staff. If you are here when it is slow all will run well, during a rush you will have to be a bit patient. Hidden on the Michigan Ave. trail on the way from Ypsi and heading towards the far side of Canton, it is not easily accessible but worth the trek. Happy.

I’m fairly certain this place has the best ban chan in Michigan. All those little appetizer side dishes were fresh, carefully fermented, sweet, sour, spicy, and amazing. The chap chae was smokey, meaty(more by taste than flesh content), and utterly chewable. The tofu, pork, and kimchi soup? Flavorful and sating. Service was friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. The restaurant was dead quiet(right before close on a Tuesday night), which made conversation sound booming and intrusive. But it’s good practice for my boisterous self to use my(shhhh) inside voices. The only way this place could get better is if they had clam soup and/or baby octopus dumplings. Then I’d feel as though I had little reason(food wise) to go back to Seoul.

My husband and I went here today for Valentine’s Day! :D we ordered the Spicy Squid Bokkum, Beef Bim Bim Bop and their Kalbi Korean Barbecue. The Bokkum dish we had was delicious! We loved the taste of the sauce and the texture of the squid. The beef in the Bim Bim Bop was really tender. I didn’t like the sesame oil taste to the bean sprouts and I most likely wouldn’t order this dish again, but the dish itself was good and others would probably like this rendition. The Kalbi wasn’t as tender as I would have liked it to be but the flavor was super tasty. Overall, the service was really friendly and the atmosphere felt homey. This place is closer to home than our original Korean place, but we did like the place and would most likely return and the prices are very reasonable for their authenticity.
