I was in the store for all of 4 minutes. Took a cup to go, it was tasty. The staff was friendly, and despite the breezy, cold day in Adelaide and the open window onto Nth terrace — the inside of the store was suprisingly warm and cosy. I’d go back. Four Bobsleds

I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while. It wasn’t until I noticed the shop-a-docket voucher for buy one coffee get one free that things fell into place. I get off the bus for Uni right out the front. I obviously didn’t read the small print on the voucher as it was only for a small(my keepcup is a 12oz). I also didn’t think about the fact that my wife drinks hot chocolate. The lady serving us was nice enough(kinda grumpy actually) to charge the difference which came to $ 5.50. Good deal I reckon! I later ordered a blueberry muffin, which was almost worth the $ 4 I paid for it. Pretty yummy. I love the old photos of around Adelaide. It’s a warm and relaxing space to be in. I probably won’t come back here again. They charge $ 1 for soy…(outrageous, they don’t even use bonsoy, which even then doesn’t justify it). I’ve decided that I don’t really like Lavazza coffee. In the past I’ve thought it was the barista, but this lady seemed to do most things right. I also have a deep hatred of The Australian and they had it on most tables.

This used to be my standard coffee shop whenever I was at Uni. The deligthful owners knew me by name and would even remember my coffee order down to the fact I had one sugar not two. Since an owner change about a year ago I haven’t frequented this establishment as much. The coffee is okay but it can be a bit hit-and-miss. The staff are friendly and you can tell who are their regulars when they walk in. The food display isn’t as full as it used to be although now you can order off a menu and food prepared fresh for you. Overall I think the quality and range of choices has gone a little downhill and I don’t find this place as busy as it once was. There are some better options on the Uni grounds for students(and often a bit cheaper as well)

As a uni student, I would come here almost on a daily basis. They provide, by far, the best coffee in the area — perhaps better than many of the cafes on Rundle Street. The owners are husband and wife, and are two of the most happy-go-lucky shop owners you’ll meet. They prepare all the food and coffee with a smile and are an absolute delight to have a chat to whilst you’re waiting for your order. The atmosphere is busy and fast, but it’s one I feel strangely calm in. An outside table will give you a lot of sunshine and a bit of distance from the noise of the espresso machines. In addition to great-tasting coffee, their selection of breakfast and lunch items is basic yet delicious. I often got a bacon and egg roll before heading off to class in the mornings, and it always hit the spot. They also stock macarons and desserts(as most cafes do), so there’s a lot on offer for an afternoon snack as well.

For what it’s worth, Espresso Café 227 is not too bad when it comes to little cafes. They coffee isn’t the greatest, but it’s definitely not the worst, and they have a number of fresh and healthy looking sandwiches and wraps available for lunch. Being located on North Terrace there are always people walking around the outdoor area, which kind of gets a bit irritating, so I always prefer sitting indoors if there’s ever a spot. It’s a busy location, so therefore they generally have a lot of customers.

I’m not a huge fan of the coffee here, a bit too bitter for my liking, but I’m giving them four stars because I really like their food. A good option for lunch, there are salads and wraps, sandwiches, hot foods and cakes. As Jo pointed out, it’s not really the place to sit and enjoy your surroundings, but the owners are lovely, and the place just feels good.

An unobtrusive café brewing LavAzza, Espresso Café 227 does a surprisingly good coffee, along with well-priced lunch/breakfast foods in a nice atmosphere. The very Italian owners are always friendly and super helpful. I feel comfortable sitting on the high white table, chowing through one of their large and oh so cakey muffins. Yum. Their coffee is smooth and not at all bitter. It doesn’t have much of a kick, but that can be a good thing. They have regular lunch deals, like a salad wrap and coffee or can of soft drink for $ 7.90. That’s a lot better value than you get anywhere else along North Terrace! They do all day breakfasts as well, and I love coming here for an old favourite — ham and cheese toastie with a coffee, for under $ 7. It’s not in a particularly nice setting, being so surrounded by cement and passing cars, but the vibe of the café is friendly and comfortable, and the food good, healthy and cheap.
