InterContinental Adelaide

Okay so I stayed here with my mum on Australia Day this year. We came here because we wanted to watch the fireworks from the highest floor. We ended up doing that and it was terrific. We stayed on level 21 and because we stayed so high we got to be apart of club intercontinental which provides free drinks all day along with an afternoon tea and then a dinner thing. It also provides a free brekky. It was really fun there and the room was very clean. I loved the view we had from our room. Now, if you’re looking to stay here then I advise you to go on trip advisor or one of those hotel compare sites. The reason why is because we paid 390 for one night on the 21^st floor however a couple who also stayed one night and stayed on the same floor as us only paid 300. They also got the club intercontinental included. It goes to show that these hotel sites can save you a lot of dosh. I really enjoyed the food here and thought it all tasted great. I also loved the amount of vegetarian options they had. The staff were also really friendly and nice. I think that the pool should be on the roof of the intercontinental with a big screen fence around it so people can look at the view. There’s also a gym at the intercontinental with lots of equipment.
PS– the wifi didn’t work in the room we were staying in so I used the wifi in the club intercontinental lounge a lot of the time

I stayed at the InterContinental during a trip through Australia. It was recommended by a travel agent as we were traveling to and from Kangaroo Island (Island 30 min flight from Adelaide). We stayed here two nights one before our trip to the island, and one after.
On the first night, the hotel staff was friendly however our rooms were not ready and we were told they were doing a «final check» but would be ready in 10 minutes. They instructed us to go to the Lounge located on the 21^st floor and would bring the keys right up. 35 minutes later we were still sitting there. I went back down to check with the front desk and one employee looked to the other employee and said «did you check up on those rooms?» He responded with «Nope.» This seemed a bit unprofessional and then they had no idea who was staying in which rooms even though our reservation confirmation had all the information correct on it.
The rooms were nice, the bathrooms were the nicest part of the room
We dined at the restaurant Shiki which is located in the hotel. This is similar to a Habatchi style restaurant and was very good and quite pricey.
During the second night after our trip to Kangaroo Island, our rooms were ready upon checking in and the staff was very friendly.

The intercontinental Adelaide is located in the city centre. It is seconds away from the convention centre and walking distance to rundle st mall. The streets nearby have a range of café and restaurant options.
The hotel itself has a light yellowy brown décor. The staff are friendly. It is quick to check in. Breakfast is served in their Riverview restaurant and includes a breakfast buffet with a coffee machine that spits out vittoria coffee and hot chocolate. There are a broad range of tea options in tea leaves form (you get your own little teapot) or tea bag form. Breakfast includes the usual western breakfast options such as eggs, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms, cereal, granola etc. What’s new though is that you can use their juice machine and squeeze out fresh juices in a few minutes. They also daily serve an Indian delicious tasting vegetarian potato curry with paratha. Yumm.
The room itself had a comfy double bed, a work desk and chair and a couch. A massive room for one person.
The bathroom contains a large bathtub and the bath products provided contain lemon balm (such a refreshing smell).
The hotel contains a fitness centre, a pool, restaurant and bar. When you enter the hotel you might even get to try one of the restaurant’s gourmet dishes. I had the chance to try duck Confit with quinoa. Yumm.

The hotel’s décor is dated. The room is okay but the wi-​fi there is hopeless. If you need to work with your laptop in your room, choose another hotel. The internet connection is very slow, or doesn’t work at all. Stay here if you don’t mind having to do all your work in the lobby. The system needs fixing. Good staff, very accommodating and professional.

I use to be a regular at this property when it was a hyatt. Once it was taken over and rebranded I stayed twice at intercont. The first I gave them a pass allowing for teething problems the second was the nail.
The staff are so rude that I was honestly at times during my 2 week stay in shock. I found myself coming down with a cold so thought a hot bath with bath salts might help. I called down and was told I had reached my quota of bath salts for my stay. WHAT???
That was just one of the many many issues. The only thing I liked was their club lounge because it was empty, not even staffed. For refreshments you would pick up a house phone and tell the kitchen what you wanted and it would be sent up. Perfect, if only bath salts were as easy to come by

Great service, attractive lobby, but pretty average rooms given the price.
Room rate for a 2 single bed room was $ 325 and $ 375 for a king.
Beds were too firm and had no mattress toppers. I expect a more comfortable bed from a room in this price range. The octagonal shaped rooms provide less usable space than a conventional shaped room. The woodwork in the room has seen better days. While a distressed look my look appealing on certain antiques, it was not intended here. A couple beaten up furniture items had been painted over, when they should have been replaced.
No bathroom scales, no magnifying mirror. I liked the orange marble floor and shower.
The shower fixture was identical to the one we had when I was a kid, it drooped and didn’t work that well when I was a kid as well. Guys, new Kohler shower fixtures only cost $ 50 and work much better.
The gym was excellent. It has a comprehensive set of Nautilus machines, bikes, treadmills and free weights.
This is a renovated Hyatt, but they don’t seem to have spent enough on the renovation. The guest rooms are not bad, but for this room rate should be better.
On the positive side I love the location, it is a quick 3 block walk to the Rundall Mall.

To start with, I’ve been to few IC hotels around the world and this just doesn’t feel the same. It feels like the old Hyatt, which I had been to as well. They have revamped the rooms a bit and definitely improved upon the linens. Other than that, not much has changed in the décor department. Check-​in is always fast. Staff are constantly on hand to cater to your every whim.
The piano bar off the lobby is decent but could be so much better. Probably depends on the crowd on the particular night as to your experience there. The buffet dinner is good but to be honest, it left a lot to be desired. Having had plenty of hotel buffet’s over the years, this doesn’t really stand out as great, like it should. The food is topped up after every last grain of rice is gone and you have to ask constantly if your favourite item of the evening is gone. Definitely not worth the price tag for the meal.
Room rates are what you expect from IC and place it at the upper end for Adelaide. With the few drawbacks, I still rate this as 4 stars because it is definitely one of the best hotels in the city.

Intercontinental Adelaide (Formally known as the Hyatt) is officially the best hotel in North Terrace Adelaide. I was here for one of my close friend’s birthday party and I gotta say this place is swanky nice!
I knew before going in that mixing it up with crazy friends in such a well-​behaved hotel didn’t feel right… but Intercontinental managed to accommodate a room full of young drunk European, Australian, Asian men that I’ve never met before, sleazy girlfriends, best friends that you’ve known from growing up in Adelaide, who immediately bonded over discussions about… school, drinking, sex, watching soccer in the hotel room, and hearing about random unnecessary fights in the city (that had nothing to do with us). There was no limit to the bottles of alcohol my friends bought. But somehow the setting of Intercontinental kept it all real classy despite all the chaos. What I really liked about this hotel was that the security guards are quick in telling us all off, if we were too noisy or out of control. Thanks guys!
The drinking didn’t help as friends disappeared and disconnected from the group as we all went our separate drunken ways. The night was crazy, I somehow lost all my friends by the end of the night, stranded in front of the Intercontinental, and had to call another friend to take me home 4am. Lucky when you say «I’m front of the Hyatt», most people in Adelaide will know where you are.
It was, indeed, an AWESOME birthday for my friend Chris. I will not forget that night!

Adelaide really doesn’t have any of those hotels that are just so fancy you feel as if you are a squillionaire oil baroness with a suitcase full of diamonds. Probably not much call for it to be honest. The festival city is more cheap and cheerful than shangri-​la.
That said, the Intercontinental is probably the swishest large scale hotel we have. Located on the cultural /​accomodation boulevard of North Terrace it is convenient to all CBD attractions and located on the tramline so tourists will find it convenient to visit the bay (Glenelg) from here.
I’ve stayed here on a few occassions when it was the Hyatt and once since being bought by the Intercontinental group. Of course, when staying in a hotel in ones own city the reasons are usually far from pure and the whole purpose is to indulge and be pampered.
The rooms are of a high standard although not all are glitzy and glamourous, even the basic ones are clean with fairly respectable views and deliciously high thread counted sheets. The in house massage service is great and the gym is basic but has an assortment of machinery and weights. The food available from room service is to die for and I’ve even had fun ordering from the kids menu — best cheese burger I’ve ever eaten!
So my recommendation is to check out
and treat yourself to a night in. Real fancy food in a white terry towling robe is just my idea of heaven!
