OBun Chef is one of my favourite spots in the Central Market. It’s just likeable. This tiny store selling one thing, delicious little cake like things filled with custard, coconut, chocolate, red bean, or cheese. So I decided I had to make the walk down to Pirie Street to try out the OBun Chef Café. It’s a larger premises and as well as the buns you can get a range of drinks(including bubble tea), and there are lunch meals as well. I played it safe and stuck with just the buns & a bubble tea. Coconut, custard, & red bean, my three favourites. The buns are so easy to eat on the go, but it was nice to have somewhere to sit. They didn’t taste quite as fresh as the ones in the Market, but maybe it’s just because those ones sell out so quickly. I did see them making some fresh. They had run out of pearls so instead I had my bubble tea with jelly. It was good, but I didn’t like it as much. I was also a little dissapointed they didn’t have the bubble tea plastic lid machine things(how can you beat that technical know-how). I love grabbing that giant straw and slamming it through the top of the cup, unfortunately OBun Chef just didn’t deliver. I still love my OBuns, but I won’t be itching to get back to the café.
