I grew up eating hotpot/steamboat whatever you want to call it so coming here every couple of months hits the spot. This place is by far one of the better hotpot places i’ve been to in melbourne. so much variety on their menu and you can DIY your dipping sauce. Oh they are now charging $ 3 per person now for a bowl of sauce but after the first one you can have as many bowls of sauce you like. The mushroom soup stock is my favourite and i always get that when i come. The good thing about this place is you get individual pots so you don’t have to share with anyone hahhaa yummm! Make sure you prebook as this place is always packed and the wait is pretty long. The service is quick but the staff here barely speak english so just a little heads up. Definitely recommended coming here on a chilly night.

I love this food so much that it will completely out weigh the fact that we had to wait 30min for our 7pm booking. Reminds me of that Seinfeld line«everyone knows how to take the reservation… It’s about holding the reservation». Awesome hotpot, awesome food, speedy service(when you get in eventually). If you like Chilli, you will be in heaven. If you don’t like Chilli, be careful.

Take the stairs on the way up lazy! But if you’re tripping on Sichuan take the lift down… At the moment, or atleast the last two times I was there they were only serving hot pot. My wife loves this place and it is definitely a hit when it is so cold outside. My favourite is definitely mixing the sauces and using that to flavour the hotpot soup or provide some amazing taste to your rice. Try the beef sauce with coriander and peanuts yum!

Fancy some pepper hallucinations? Enter Dainty Sichuan. This joint, unlike the other two — only serves hotpot. You get your own little pot to cooke whatever you want. There are various options for your stock base, you even get to have half and half. So if you are daring, try the spicy soup. There’s an extra spicy soup… but I don’t even want to know what that tastes like. If you want to enjoy your dinner however, I just go for the mushroom soup base or seafood base and then add chilli to it as I desire. There have a ‘sauce’ station with about 20 different types of chilli from just the standard Sichuan Chilli to Beef Chilli? They’ve got garnishes such as coriander, spring onions etc etc… They even have MSG?! It’s not the cheapest, but dishes do come out quite well presented and are quite large. I normally get a couple of beed dishes, some veggies(Pak Choy/Chinese CabbageOther greens that have Choy in the name) and mushrooms. Also, try the potato noodles. It doesn’t have much of a taste on its own, but cook it in the soup and it’s yum… They have an order sheet where you tick what you’d like. Don’t worry — they also have a menu with picture explaining everything. Very helpful. Especially since NOONE really speaks english. Be prepared to leave extrememly full and with a burnt tongue.

Recently opened in Box Hill, this one is more spacious than the South Yarra one and is located close to parking. There are a few key differences though: –This one is upstairs and is in a backstreet of Box Hill –They serve personal hot pots on a hot plate for you –They have limited a la carte dishes compared to the main restaurants. There is no fish eggplant… –They do have baked dishes to share –There is a buffet of… SAUCES I went with three others and they all got a basic mushroom stock($ 6) personal pot while I tried a spicy pot($ 6). There are fancier options and those cost around $ 12. When you order for hot pot, you have to mark down what you want on a menu to order. We got way too much food and really went overboard. A few items I usually get at hot pot are: –tender beef –marinated pork spare ribs –bean curd –chicken corriander meat balls –wagon wheels(lotus roots) –rice cake sticks The servings are quite generous so don’t got too overboard like us. The good news is that you can take away if you can’t finish! Also they take cards at this branch and the waiter we got was really nice and helpful.
