Hidden in the historic Treasury building is surprisingly a modern Asian restaurant. Food was tasty and in large portions. Service was prompt and friendly. I’d go back for sure.

This is one of my favourite asian style restaurants. The meals are reasonably priced and the meals come out very quick. You cannot book so be prepared to wait for a table if they are busy.

Delicious Viet fusion food. Wish we could’ve eaten more! Staff were lovely and cocktails hit the spot on a hot day.

A bit of a let down. I’d seen mixed reviews on Fat Noodle but we decided to give it a try and see for ourselves. We were greeted promptly and escorted to the dining room. The dining room was full, so we were then given our choice of communal tables… we could either sit inside by the kitchen, or outside on the patio. It wasn’t an uncomfortably hot day so we opted for the patio. We ordered the rice paper rolls, fried rice to share, the Seafood Laksa and the Phở(which Fat Noodle is supposed to be known for). The food came very quickly, so quickly that it was obvious they’re in a hurry to turn tables here. The fried rice was just okay, cold and nothing special at all. My friend had the Seafood Laksa and was happy with his selection. It was a large portion with plenty of seafood, and the tofu was well cooked. The rolls eventually showed up and they were also just okay, quite tasteless and not a lot of filling. I had the Phở. Sorry Fat Noodle, this was easily the worst phở I’ve ever eaten. TERRIBLE!!! The broth tasted like watered down brown gravy. Unlike any broth, especially phở broth I’ve every tasted. It was lacking all of the lovely ingredients and spices that go into it during the long cooking process. The only positive was that there was a lot of beef in the soup. Definitely not traditional Vietnamese, but also failing on the Fusion front. I’d skip this one quite truthfully.

Greatly enjoyed the environment, service, and food. The food was served very quickly and complimentary tea was fabulous. We had the pad see ew and spicy pork and would recommend both. The spicy pork was not very spicy, but delicious all the same. Will definitely be back.

This was a bit of an impromptu visit. A friend had been to the movies and was heading here for dinner with their friend, I was invited along after work. I like that there is an entry into the place that doesn’t involve going through the casino, makes it just a little easier. There’s a nice outdoor eating area too on the balcony, which had a nice ambience until the heaters kicked in and bathed us in a ghastly red, blinding light. The staff were all super friendly too. The food. Well… I had some sort of beef stir fry. It was okay. I’m not really one for asian food in general, but I’ve definitely had better, but hey, it wasn’t overly expensive, which you’d expect from its location. One of my dining partners had the pad thai, her favourite dish. Awful, worst she’s had. Authentic Vietnamese food? Probably not. Both my dining partners have spent a good deal of time in Vietnam and were unimpressed. Or maybe it is authentic, just not very good. I don’t know. It wasn’t such an awful place i’d never come again, but it would never be first choice for anything, and there’s definitely far better asian food to be had in Brisbane. Still, the bill between three of us only came to $ 70, so you won’t blow your budget, and the décor and staff are both lovely.

I thought the food was ok, but it’s probably my fault for ordering something boring(fried rice is fried rice, I don’t think I’ve ever had one that really blew me away). The interior is nice and the chairs and tables are very comfortable. This is to be expected from a place inside the casino. I found prices on the menu to be pretty reasonable, including drinks. Be aware that they do not split bills and will make zero attempt to help you sort out payment, even for a group of 6 or 7 people.

When it comes to Vietnamese foods, I take any excuses to try new places. When I got introduce to Fat Noodle and after seeing some of their Instagram photos, I knew I had to come here. It was lovely, we were a group of 7 people getting together and catching up. The deco is inviting and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s hard to find a nice place like this that give you a free pot if tea, actually we had two free pots of Jasmine Tea — love the tea! I had the Hainam Chicken, the chicken is cooked perfectly and goes so well with the ginger sauce and sweet chilli sauce. The rice was abit uncooked and very dry. It’s come with a side dish of soup but I didn’t really like the soup, it tasted rather sweet and it was cold. Price rang is about $ 10 to $ 20 per dish. It’s not a typical Vietnamese price rang. This is located in a well know casino right in the heart of Brisbane CBD. All and all experience was very good. Although the restaurant started to fill up shortly after we arrived, we didn’t feel like we were rush to leave after we all finished eating and charting away. There were more dishes on the menu that I want to try, sure will come back and try more dishes!

«I wonder how many times a day they have to wipe the drool off that glass?» I ponder upon walking into Fat Noodle and seeing the kitchen plating up creamy laksa and steaming bowls of Phở. With a restaurant style to suit the Treasury casino attached, you won’t find fluorescent lights and wet wipes in sight at this Asian fusion eatery. But they do have an incredibly tasty and well-priced menu of which I could have eaten absolutely anything and everything. The more polished setting(not quite cheap eats, but not fine dining) makes it a perfect date night or dinner with friends venue when you’re looking for tasty, crowd-pleasing food. With influences of Vietnamese, Thai and Malaysian, our table ordered Mee Goreng with glassy noodles and big juicy prawns, a mouth-watering Pad See Ew and a creamy Singapore Laksa that smelled absolutely divine. Paired with a tall and delicious Vietnamese coffee and I was in comfort food heaven. Ordinarily when eating Asian I would order a few dishes and share them all, but Fat Noodle seems more geared to single serves for people. That and Laska/Phở isn’t exactly a share dish. Even with our entrée of vegetable dumplings we weren’t given share plates, so I suspect it’s just not the set up of the restaurant. If I was a local, this would definitely be my go-to whenever I craved Thai or couldn’t decide what to have for dinner.

This might be the restaurant of the media-friendly Luke Nguyen but lower your expectations before coming to Fat Noodle. Yes, it’s a decent and cheap eat but it isn’t a fine-dining restaurant. It’s fast Vietnamese and Asian food done well at a price that, in our group of four, left us all rolling home for $ 30 a head. I can’t go past the teriyaki salmon for a starter to share with the table as well as some prawn dumplings. For mains I opted for the low-in-gluten Pad See Ew and this morning I’ve woken up wondering when I’ll next eat this delicious dish. It was a well-portioned dish with the perfect balance of rice noodle, greens and slight sweetness. Depending on when you go there may be a wait. Our group waited(took the opportunity to have drinks at The Kitty) for about 30mins before a table was available. You’ll be given a buzzer so best not to leave the Treasury vicinity.

I will point out the positives about Fat Noodle that I experienced. It’s one of the FEW places that serves food after 9:30pm on a Sunday. The service was great as well. The staff were attentive and super friendly. The atmosphere is welcoming and classy. Unfortunately, a huge disappointment food wise. The prawn rice paper rolls were the best part of the meal and that’s not saying very much. They were tiny. I make these at home and know that they can’t be as large as my homemade ones but for the price, it was pathetic. The BBQ pork buns were not filled with much BBQ pork and too doughy. The flavor of the dough is important and it was lacking as well. Then, our entrees were even worse! I felt that the food was terrible, bland, and very low quality. I ordered the seafood mee goreng and I could have made instant noodles taste way better at home. I couldn’t eat the squid or octopus because it was too chewy/rubbery with no taste. I feel that it came from the frozen seafood bundle that you purchase at the grocery store but left out too long. I tried to enjoy it but it was greasy and thrown poorly together. My friend ordered the duck noodle soup and it was awful as well. For a celebrity chef restaurant, I feel that it was all flash on the exterior but no substance when it comes to the real test– in the food. It’s a real shame. The food came out too quickly which kind of worried me as well. I felt that it was fast food with a very expensive price tag.

We went to fat noodle by recommendation because we just love real authentic Vietnamese food . Again this is my second visit eating in the CBD Brisbane fancy Asian restaurant and disapointed with the whole service, food, and serving size . It was family gathering and we want to enjoy the atmosphere, but the food ??? Wish they would cook it with passion.

Fat Noodle is a winner in my book. I love the name, love the interior(you forget you’re in the Treas’ immediately), love the long opening hours and love the food. Each time I’ve visited staff have been attentive, down-to-earth and keen to give advice about the menu. On the topic of the menu, my favourite picks have been the Salt and Pepper Silken Tofu, the vegetarian Shanghai Noodles with pumpkin and shitake mushrooms and the Pad See Ew with pork and asian greens on rice noodle rolls… oh boy… I still dream about those fat, saucy, delicious rice noodle rolls… My only criticism, already pointed out by some Unilocalers, is the pricing which I wish was a little lower. On the plus side, the serving sizes I’ve had /seen have been quite large.

I don’t quite understand the hype surrounding this restaurant in the Treasury Casino. The interior is very elegant however I feel that you’re mainly paying for the atmosphere at this place. I ordered the Fat Noodle Phở which is one of their signature items and while it was decent, it was not really worth the $ 18 that I paid for when I can get better phở elsewhere for cheaper. This was kind of a letdown for me. I haven’t tried their other dishes but since they’re all around the same price point, not sure if I would return back here unless it was maybe for a special occasion. At least the service was quick and efficient, also the views are quite nice.

We went here last night to celebrate the 17 year old’s impending birthday. We couldn’t sit at our own table due to a very busy(takes no bookings) restaurant — so we opted to sit up at the looooong communal table. I do like a communal table — but with this one there is no room to «share» plates which is what Asian eating is all about isn’t it? The food was expertly balanced in it’s flavours. We devoured rice paper rolls, sashimi, chicken salad, sticky pork ribs, wagu beef noodles and a chicken pad thai.(Well, it was a birthday celebration!) ALL of the dishes were delicious. The staff are still very green and unsure of themselves. Their clumsy approach was a little off-putting. They didn’t cope well with the fact that I was sitting opposite my 2 teenagers rather than next to them on this big communal table. When serving the meals they weren’t sure where to put the food or who to bill in the end. Shared dishes are obviously not the de rigueuer here. We were halfway through the beef noodles when it was about to be whipped away. I had to yell to have it returned. Additionally the Bill was presented to me halfway through our meal. What if we wanted more food? More drinks? Did they want us to hurry up and leave? Great food! Great fit out! Just some more work on waitstaff etiquette and upselling will make this a fantastic restaurant.

16/12/2012 Fat Noodle, fat tastes! Luke Nguyen is another celebrity chef who has decided to add to Brisbane’s ever growing diverse menu, by opening Fat Noodle earlier this month(12÷12÷12) at the Treasury Casino, in Brisbane’s CBD. Best known for his shows on SBS, Red Lantern Restaurants in Sydney, as well as his first Fat Noodle at The Star. Admittedly, we were already a fan of his work on SBS. The passion he conveys when cooking & talking about the dishes he makes using fresh ingredients, makes him instantly likeable. Without having been to any of his establishments it was with great excitement to finally be able to sample what everyone else has been raving about, especially those smug Sydneysiders! :) We decided to come for a very late lunch on a Sunday afternoon, around 3pm. Entrance is on the Queen Street side of the Treasury Casino facing Redacliffe place. Turns out, this is probably the best time to be lunching at Fat Noodle. As Fat Noodle does not take reservations, only a few patrons were about, and plenty of seats to choose. Our very attentive waiter had said that lunch earlier was«very very busy». Thank goodness we could relax and just take our time. When you first walk in to Fat Noodle, you immediately appreciate the lush Asian décor. It is hard to focus on the person greeting you when you are too busy, looking around admiring everything. The back-lit bar giving a lantern-like effect, and what looks like the scales of a dragon, hovering just underneath the ceiling. We were assigned a waiter, Gary, and service was first-class through out. Gary was kind enough to explain what Fat Noodle is all about. A dynamic mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and Malay; in true«Asian Market Hawker» style. Meaning whatever you order, is prepared, cooked and served straight away! Fat Noodle, is open until 10pm each week night, and until 3am on weekends. Bonus! Locals now have great option for those late night munchies in the CBD, without having to resort to 24 hour service stations or fast food. Where we sat was a communal long table with high chairs, but there are also individual tables available. Fat Noodle even does take-away, another bonus, if you are looking for that quick fix of Asian mix. Gary provided us some complimentary jasmine tea, as we took our time to look over the menu. The menu is simple, divided into five sections of «Small Plates», «Rice», «Noodles», and«Wok» Dishes, as well as Drinks. Best thing about the food items on the menu? Nothing appeared to be over $ 20! Brilliant! It was time to order. We went with the Fat Phở Noodles($ 18 — Fat Noodle’s signature dish), a 20-hour beef broth, with thinly sliced Angus Sirloin and brisket, bean sprouts, fresh Thai basil, fresh chilli and rice noodles. We also ordered the Mee Goreng($ 18), Singapore Noodles with Prawns, Chicken, Octopus, and Sambal Chilli sauce. Gary managed to convince us to try the Vegetable of the day; Bok Choy in Garlic Sauce. When our order finally arrived, which wasn’t very long at all, we were amazed at the size of the meal(portion). Too often, you can come to a «fancy» place with«flash» décor, order something and be let down by the meal size portion for the price you pay. So this was a very welcome surprise, and it all looked very appetising. We sat there eating the Fat Phở Noodle, spooning & sipping the broth slowly and just enjoying the scrumptious tender beef loins. It took me back to the years growing up in Darwin, and having Vietnamese noodle soup after school at the popular eatery at Casuarina Shopping Square. For those that are not familiar with Darwin, it has to be one of the best places in Australia(if not the best), to have any Asian food! It is unlike any other Australian city, being closer to Asia, than it is to Sydney. The Mee Goreng Singaporean noodle was every bit as delightful, the octopus, a standout in the mix of chicken and prawns. From time to time, as we sat there silent, focussed on our meal, we’d have a piece of garlic sauce covered bok choy, as if we needed anymore of yummy flavours! We couldn’t finish it all, and not wanting to waste it, we had Gary pack it for us to take-away. Fat Noodle exceeded our expectations, with the service, the aesthetics, and the quality of meal served, as well as value-for-money. It’s an absolute bargain when you consider what you get, where you are having it, and who owns the place! It’s also has a laid back atmosphere(for a venue which looks fancy) which we like. Whether it’s for after work drinks, a group catch-up sharing a meal, a casual date, or a late night food hunt, Fat Noodle will be very popular indeed. Can’t wait to go back.

I have fallen in love with Fat Noodle! My family and I decided to try Fat Noodle on opening night. We arrived at about 6pm hoping to avoid a long wait for a table. We were a party of 6 so it took about 20 minutes for a table to clear(we were given a buzzer so we could wander around instead of standing at the door). My parents are from Singapore and my dad especially is always highly critical of anything he eats. He pretty much compares everything to a RM$ 2 laksa from the streets of KL when he was younger, so it’s difficult to compete with such an authentic memory and the cheap prices of the past in SE Asia. So it was quite surprising, and Luke Nguyen should consider it an incredible compliment that my dad sat through the whole dinner praising everything. He LOVED the laksa, saying the flavour was very authentic and in his words ‘they are not stingy on the ingredients’ also saying it was much better than laksa from another restaurant in the city. And what did he have to say about the price tag? While it is more expensive than other CBD offerings, he believes that the great flavour makes it worth it and that people will come back. Mum had the chicken rice which she really liked(dad also saying that it was better than other ones available in the city). I had the Fat Noodle Phở which had a beautiful rich broth. The flavour became even more developed as you reached the bottom of the bowl. My sister’s wonton mee reminded me of the ones I have when I’m visiting my family back in Singapore. Light broth and tasty, tasty wontons. I haven’t had the duck noodle yet but our other guest said that it was really good and loved that the duck was boneless. We also ordered the small places; salt and pepper tofu, vegetable of the day(bok choy cooked in garlic) and the pork neck skewers. They were all good and while they were a great accompaniment we probably went a little overboard(because I wanted to try EVERYTHING!). The décor is lovely. And if you had ever been to Café 21(what was in the same space previously) you will have an even greater appreciation of the prettiness. We were seated indoors on a big table. I did see communal benches which were high and also seating outside which I imagine would be quite cold in winter. I’m definitely going back again(and again) and can’t wait to try the mee goreng. I have high hopes for it and will report back after I’ve been more than once(just to make sure it really is as good as the first time).
