Oh dear. The flat white I ordered came out as a cappuccino. I drank it anyway; as it turned out the chocolate on top was the best thing about it. Then my eggs Benedict — unceremoniously dumped on my outside table through the window of the café, the bacon had plainly been pre-cooked and reheated, the hollandaise was that sickly sweet fake stuff you get at the supermarket. All in all, a pretty dismal start to my day.

This is a lovely spot on Grey St right next to the cinemas. I stopped here for a quick coffee and ham & cheese croissant before a work meeting at Southbank. The coffee was delicious and served at a drinkable temperature. The croissant was fresh and tasty. I really loved the décor and outlook and would go here again without hesitation.

I have nothing but an abundance of compliments to give to Grey’s Café & Bar. Since they recently opened I understand they are awaiting a highly anticipated remodel and are still buckling down on all those little kinks that new restaurants experience, but our Mother’s Day dinner is proof that great management and a feverish passion within the staff will take a new restaurant to great heights in due time. Max & Alberto — part-owner and restaurant manager — impressed me with their full on Italian charm. Just by their initial fervor and enthusiasm right when we walked through the door to being escorted to our table outside I knew we were going to be taken care of. Hailing straight from Italy — including the head chef — there was no doubt in my mind that the night would run smoothly. We enjoyed complimentary olives soaked in rich olive oil and seasoning with warm, herbed-focaccia bread to start us off. Since it was Mother’s Day, we were given a gorgeous complimentary prosecco that I believe was called Cuvee Astoria DOC(Of course anything given on the house is always extra special because it shows that a place is willing to go the extra mile to make a lasting impression.) Started with a classic bruschetta that was served with two toast points. I asked our server that if a family were to order this dish would there be more than two pieces served and was told that they would portion it out differently but it would still be the same amount. I’d definitely recommend ordering more than one for your appetizer if that’s the case. For my main I had this decadent gorgonzola risotto with mushrooms and some kind of herbed sausage. It had just the right amount of flavor matching the proper texture that makes risotto, risotto. We all know that risotto is a hard dish to execute, especially since it’s easy to make the dish too heavy on your stomach if done incorrectly, but I’d absolutely recommend ordering it at Grey’s since everything from taste to portion size was superbly done. I licked my plate clean. We finished the evening with Gancia Moscato D’Asti Prosecco as our dessert/digestif. The sweet, sweet taste of sparkling wine dancing on your tongue always tastes better after a languid, engaging dinner with a loved one at a restaurant that makes you feel right at home. We felt at home at Grey’s. First-rate food, great conversation, and a night full of charm and wonder. What more can you ask for while dining out?

Excellent for breakfast Good coffee. Cute ambience and excellent friendly service. Greys café is located about a hundred meters from Rydges hotel. The café has a large breakfast menu with a good assortment of options. Highly recommend breakfast here.
