There’s now quite a few branches of this food hall type outlet. They’ve opened one in MacArthur Central. What I love about them is that the rice is all right and you can get brown rice rolls too. They have some really cool different stuff to sample. Today I’m having a beef sukiyaki roll that has a tasty slathering of mustardy mayo and a stalk of asparagus and avocado, and a raw runs sesame roll. I’ve rounded off my lunch with a $ 2 cup of miso soup. Next time I want to get the honey mustard pork and the lobster salad rolls.

Its so hard breaking up with LR Sushi, we had so many great memories together. I used to dream about their fresh salmon and tuna rolls. but alas I feel we’ve grown apart. LR Sushi is not as fresh as it once was, it’s not flavourful either. With so many other sushi options in the city I’ve strayed and found other favourites. LR still delivers good value and also gives you free condiments including mayo so it’s not all bad — but it’s just not the same as it once was. On the plus side the line up has substantially reduced so it’s easier to grab your lunch time sushi.

If you LOVE sushi, you HAVE to come here! As I was adventuring around the city, my stomach informed me that it was time to get some food. As I was on my way to Hanaichi to get some curry, the long line outside of LR Sushi immediately caught my attention. There was no way I was going to pass this place up. Don’t be fooled by the long line; it will pass by fairly quickly! There were so many options of sushi rolls to choose from but I ended up getting tuna & avocado, curry chicken and smoked salmon & cream cheese. MMMHMM I WASINSUSHIHEAVEN! The tuna and avocado had soooo much flavour; the tuna wasn’t dry at all. The chicken wasn’t dry as well; it was so soft. The smoked salmon had so much flavour. The only thing I didn’t like was that it had a bit too much cream cheese. The rolls are about $ 2.80 each, which is reasonably priced. They’re pretty big rolls. If you’re in the city, definitely check this place out!

Craving some sushi on a Saturday(or Sunday) so I headed down to LR Sushi, the smaller sister store(and original) to the LR Sushi at 400 George. Same great Sushi as the LR Sushi at 400 George. Okay so this isn’t the BEST sushi in the world and they are not going to win ANY awards for originality or traditional Japanese Sushi. BUT they are consistently good and a great CHEAP option for sushi on the go. With popular rolls, like California roll, Salmon and Cream Cheese, Chicken and Avocado and Teriyaki Chicken, grab a 4 pack, some kewpie mayo, wasabi and ginger… sit in the Queen Street Mall and enjoy people watching with a tasty bite.

Great place with decently cheap sushi and pleasant staff. There’s always a line during lunch but the typical wait isn’t more than a couple minutes. The rolls range from 2.30−3.00. I usually get the salmon and avocado, California roll and the seaweed and tofu. The fish is always very fresh with no slimy texture, and the other rolls do not have the stale left on the shelf taste. For around 7 bucks for lunch, there really aren’t any other better places in the CBD!

I’ve been hearing about this LR place for quite a while now… and while I’m not a pre-made sushi enthusiast, I’ve given a few places a try here already. I found it so weird that sushi came block rolls here, as compared to cut-up or hand rolls that you find much more often in the States. I had the fresh salmon and the spider roll(softshell crab), both of which were just ok. I found it interesting that the salmon wasn’t as fresh as Sushiro’s just across the street from David Jones, since this place has a higher rating. The softshell crab was also not as crunchy, and it had a block of cheese in it! Weird. At this rate, I’d rather get my sushi at Sushiro, since the prices are about the same and the line is also typically shorter.

I’ll admit it. Born and raised in Vancouver, B. C, I’m a bit of a Sushi snob. My standards are high. My tolerance for inferior sushi, low. I try to like this place, I really do. Sometimes I think I like it, and then I realize its just my mind playing tricks on me. I must have been away from Vancouver too long and its just my brain trying to fool me into thinking its good. Then, I come to my senses, or maybe it was the not so pleasant after-taste of the Tuna Sashimi roll(that was left out in the sun a bit too long) that finally snaps me out of my temporary stupor. Seriously Tuna, raw fish, needs to be served chilled, not at room temperature or at slightly warmed up by the Queensland sun temperature. Also, for the record, cream cheese does not belong in Japanese cuisine, let alone paired in a sushi role with soft shell crab. I really do long for the day when sushi In Brisbane evolves beyond«let’s take something, deep fry it and stick it in a role with some rice and avo, mate. Oh and let’s smother it in mayo to disguise its shortcomings. Squirt!». Look, this sushi is not bad by Brisbane standards. But let’s not confuse those with international standards. Not even for a minute. –SZ

Best sushi place in the city — I make a point of having sushi for lunch here if I am in the city at any point in the day. There is a reason the lines can be hugely long during the lunch hour — sushi is incredibly fresh, tasty, and most affordable of all the city choices I have seen. Don’t be put off by the lines as the staff are very prompt with their service and get through hundreds of orders in minutes — so do be prepared to make a quick choice! My favourite is the egg salad & the avocado rolls, but everything is great here, so choose a random variety and enjoy!

Sushi Lovers Beware: this sushi nook is popular(and rightly so). And by popular I mean during lunch there will often be lines down Adelaide and down Edward Street. Yes, LR Sushi is that good. Now, I will say it is only hand rolls. But when you’re on the run what is better than a healthy, fresh made sushi hand roll. Most rolls are $ 2 for stock-standard favourites(chicken and avo, tuna and avo, california roll) and $ 2.50 for the likes of tempura salmon and avocado. The staff are friendly and efficient. Even when the line is growing out the door and around the corner they’re working through it like champions. If you’re in the city and looking for breakfast /lunch /dinner /morning tea /afternoon tea or you’re just craving your next sushi hit, LR Sushi will provide.

There is an art to the perfect sushi. I heard second hand from somebody who possibly had a passing interest in Japanese culture, that the entire philosophy behind sushi is that you should look at it and feel full and content… the eating is entirely secondary. This is not the case with LR Sushi. The product is delicious, the line is long and you quite simply can never eat enough to curtail your appetite for it. LR Sushi(terrible name) is located along Adelaide Street near the Queens Plaza Starbucks and Central Station. If you are passing through the CBD around lunchtime it is likely that you will see the line before you will see the store. They actually have a staff member patrolling the line so that the masses do not block the entrance to neighboring stores who are trying to sell expensive bags. It is really quite easy to get whipped up in the frenzy! The product itself is reasonably priced and tastes delicious. I have never had a bad experience with the food at LR Sushi and I have only ever heard of one person who didn’t enjoy it. This being said, I believe that this individual may not have been in the correct frame of mine to appreciate it. They have a wide range of flavors to choose from, some old, some new, some Western and some authentically of the East. In short, for those who enjoy sushi you will find something you like. This being said, you don’t have much time to make up your mind. The line is long and demanding. One must be prepared to simply spot something they think they’ll enjoy and order a lot of it. If you weren’t socially inept like myself you’d simply step to the side and say you are still making up your mind. In short I am a fan of everything about LR Sushi except for its name. Definitely check out what the hype is about next time you are in the CBD.

For a wide variety of fresh takeaway nori maki(Japanese hand roll sushi) at a reasonable price you really can’t go past this place. It’s often referred to as «that place with the big line», which in its country of heritage — Japan — is one of the most sought after criteria in a venue. That said, the service is efficient and very friendly at the same time, so the wait is never too bad. My personal favourites are the good old salmon and avocado, sesame tuna, kingfish and the soft shell crab. The deliciously crispy crustacean filling is augmented with a slab of cream cheese. If you ask the staff will happily portion you out some of their delicious(and I’m sure, unbelievably fattening) mayonnaise with your takeaway, which goes really well with the chicken karaage. Oeshi(‘delicious’)!

Have you ever been in the CBD at lunchtime on a weekday and wondered what the huge line is on Adelaide Street next to Queen’s Plaza? Well, it’s not an ATM, and it’s certainly not Aesop giving out free samples. It’s Love Sushi Roll. I know what you’re thinking… why are people using up their entire lunch break to line up for a a roll or two of sushi when there are plenty of other sushi bars in the city? Well the answer is simple. Because Love Sushi Roll is awesome. It’s made fresh and with simple yummy ingredients and is arguably the best sushi in the city. My personal favourites are karaage and crispy chicken with avocado. If you decide to give this place a go I would heed my previous warnings about peak-sushi hours. Avoid it between about 12pm-1.30pm Monday– Friday otherwise it may test your patience, but at only $ 2 for quite large rolls(I’m hard pressed eating 2) it is great value for money if you’re willing to wait.
