This restaurant serves the best fish you will find in SE Queensland but that cannot be said of the chips! I have been a customer since it opened a few years ago and go back again and again as the fish is well priced, lightly crumbed and non greasy but the chips let the side down badly. Maybe they could try a new supplier but if the chips were better, this would be a 5 star establishment.

New Years Eve. A small line and quick service, given with a smile. Snapper and chips and whiting and chips… $ 12 each awesome. Food was good tasty and well cooked. The snapper maybe a tad on the dry side. Asked for the chips crunchy and we got what we asked for. Thoroughly enjoyable and of course it’s a lovely spot to sit and have a bite to eat.

Yep this place is fantastic! When we first got there was a big line out the front(as you would expect on Australia Day), so we went next door to Bay Bistro and Bar. After 10 minutes of waiting with no service or acknowledgement, I decided to ask the Sandgate Fishmonger how long a wait there was for take away. When I was told 3 ½ minutes I grabbed my wife and son and ordered 2 serves of the crumbed whiting and chips as recommended by the owner. 3 ½ minutes later our order was ready and we went across the road to enjoy it as a picnic in the park. Not only was it extremely quick, but the owner was very friendly and genuinely cared about his customers. The 4 pieces of butterflied whiting were beautifully sweet, and there were heaps of chips… Very good value for $ 10. If you’re round Sandgate way, definitely give this a crack and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Wow, really great fish and chips. Cod and chips for only $ 9 — it’s a big piece of fish and a hefty portion of chips. You get your choice of grilled, battered, or crumbed. I had mine battered, and I don’t know if they use some kind of light oil but it wasn’t sticky or greasy at all. I know it’s fried food but somehow it didn’t feel like it. Our second order had potato scallops instead of chips and even though we only ordered one, when we opened the box, we had three. Thanks guys! Some things to be aware of: 1. small space, a few outdoor tables and chairs but not much available if it’s busy. Be prepared to take your food away(although with the beach across the street, there is an abundance of scenic outdoor space for sitting and eating). 2. cash only. 3. they also sell gelato. Bonus!
