Windmill Pizza Paradise

This pizza joint has been around almost as long as Harry’s next door and you’d think in all that time it might have come close to the standard of ‘Paradise’ it name suggests it should, unfortunately it doesn’t.
I think this joint almost has it right, ALMOST… if it wasn’t for the lack lustre base. To me it doesn’t even make sense, the toppings and options for flavours are quite decent and if you ate a pizza by licking it from the top then you might be quite happy with what they make here but you don’t do you? You sink your teeth in and expect nothing but flavour, unfortunately the base lets it down, in a big way.
I love the options for flavours here simple, classic and tasty combinations, they do delivery and are open quite late all good things, but unfortunately for the prices they expect I won’t be coming back until they improve the pizza foundation.

Maybe I’ve had too many drinks to be very discerning by the time I get to the Windmilll, but I always think the food tastes pretty good.
Of course, there might be some sentimentality involved too, after all, the Windmill is an icon there on Petrie Terrace and over the years I’ve stopped in there for many a boozy late night munch.
These days, I like the calzones — especially the Spicy, and the Chicken and Mushroom. At around $ 10.00 these are good value and tasty.
The Cappriciosa is better than any of the pizzas in the gourmet range, and cheaper — bargain.

Having planned a night out on Caxton street we started off by wanting some pizza for dinner. We decided to head over to the windmill pizza joint as the exterior looks quite cool and inviting. We got a selection to share and for the most part the price we payed was more than the usual pizza price so we expected it to be amazing. Sadly that was not entirely the case, the pizzas ended up being quite average. I think that the problem was not the topping but the crust which was a bit cardboard like and tasted like reheated left overs. It would be expected if you payed about 5 dollars for a pizza at the end of the night. One thing to their advantage is that they are open late.
