Was worried from the outset as the place was empty late morning yet a café 20m away was so full we could not get in. Walked in grabbed a table, the table and chair had crumbs on it, I feel if the place isn’t busy they have time to clean tables. Ordered breakfast and shakes the shakes came in paper cups was expecting a tin or glass for the price. The scrambled eggs were the worst I’ve ever seen they were so over cooked and dry we couldn’t eat them. The Asian girl working there had no clue, language and communication obviously aren’t key factors when hiring here I’d say price is. They could do well to have a better cook better waitress who doesn’t just dump your food on the table without even asking who’s food is who’s. The Italian looking guy behind the counter I assume the owner was quite friendly however we won’t be going back, there are many better options than this.

Lovely staff and all day breakfast truly means all day(as in, you can rock up here at 16:30 and they’ll cook you bacon and eggs). Amazingly cheap prices and typical great Brunswick staff. Probably hasn’t changed management in 30 years. The décor is nothing special, so don’t come here if you want anything classy(they don’t even have a bathroom for customers). But insanely cheap, all day breakfasts — how can you go wrong? Also they have pretty much everything here. From full breakfasts to pies to cakes to sandwiches to fish and chips to smoothies to three fridges of drinks.

So I’m a pretty big fan of the diner style café and am more than willing to give them a burl over the trendier places around town. There’s something in my nature that just cries out for lack of pretention and this place is in line with this way of being. Unfortunately, Il Primosole doesn’t back up it’s weird geekiness with any hidden gems or surprise dishes. In fact, it is vastly overpriced and pretty ordinary. You can get a cheap breakfast here but you take one look at it and you’ll wonder why you didn’t spend the extra three bucks somewhere else. The coffee is below par, the cakes are sort of samey(like they belong in a roadside truckstop) and I’ve never been convinced anything’s really that fresh. I had a hot dog there once, and it was like they’d never even made one before. The sauce had soaked through too-crisp bread and the thing was just a(probably microwaved) sodden mess. Nuff said.

You know how there are some places that a strange, strange enough to be a cover for something else? Il Primosole has that kind of feeling. It’s a large place with a long counter, behind which you find kitchen and display cases for salads and sandwiches. The all day breakfast –Vegetarian Omelette and coffee is ok, and easily the better of all their sadly advertised signage/meals. All of these sticker signs in your face is a little unsettling, with their circles and starbursts in yellow and white. With seating inside and out, perhaps the latter is better. The people serving are nice and talk little, but there is that unsettling feeling of something else. This is not my favourite place in Lygon Street, and is a last resort kind of place.

If you’re after a simple feed at a cheap price Il Primosole is the place for you. A no-frills establishment the advertised special is an all-day breakfast for $ 8.95 — pretty cheap by any standards. I went for a simple chicken and salad roll and the girl behind the counter was liberal with her portions, good value for the price. The décor is diner-esque with red pseudo-leather couches and stools, not super comforable surrounds and it reinforces the fact that this is a place for a quick bite of simple fare.
