I don’t know if my review will necessarily be «fair» to this establishment. I’m coming at this from a very distinct angle — a gluten free angle, if you will. If you have had any experience with gluten free dining yourself or even with a friend or loved one who has to avoid these ever-present proteins you might get where I’m going with this. American Southern cooking just isn’t gluten-free or celiac friendly. I get that. I still go to American Southern style venues and I still eat there, but I have come to understand that the options will be extremely limited. To make up for watching everyone else in the party consume the most amazing looking dishes that I can’t eat unless I want to be very sick I generally get myself a Cherry Coke(the only time I’ll drink the stuff) and resign myself to whatever menu option I can safely eat. On my most recent visit to Southern Attitude I ordered the Mad Dog Tortilla off the salad portion of the menu. It sounded great(grilled chicken, mixed lettuce, smoky bacon, tomatoes, [I bypassed the avocado] corn, beans, fetta, sour cream, house-made dressing in a tortilla bowl) and they promised they could make it gluten free on request. Boxes ticked! Until it came out. It looked like a huge plate(seriously this thing was massive) covered in greens and then drenched in creamy chipotle dressing. There was chicken and corn and beans and fetta and tomatoes in there dotted around in the masses of greens, but they were hard to pick out. And without the tortilla bowl I felt more than a bit let down. I definitely should have asked what the«gluten free» option contained. Had I known it would be a plate of greens soaked within an inch of its life with creamy dressing I probably wouldn’t have ordered it, but that’s what I ended up with. Looking around the table my two kids and husband were very happily tucking into their philly cheese steak and hotdogs respectively, so as suspected the gluten-eaters were more than satisfied. I really want to like this place. With its Jack Daniels water bottles and cute old-timey décor. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and I like the atmosphere. I just wish I could get excited by something I eat here. The visit before I tried the jacket potato and garlic butter beans from the sides menu which were fine, but you know — white starchy and not overly exciting. Next time I may have to opt for the old sweet potato fries(these are on the menu as gluten free) with my Cherry Coke. I will persevere!

If you’ve had proper southern American food before you will find this place extremely below par. I’ve spent all up 3 years in America so to be fair, an American style restaurant in Australia is yet to impress me. That being said… It was a dinner party for a 30th. So about 15 of us all ordered many different meals. I had the Brisket Hoagie, and unfortunately it was far too salty and the mustard is not nice on it. One of my friends got the Brisket and also said it wasn’t nice. If you’re used to a good Brisket You know it should be saucy and BBQ’y and succulent meat — it was dry and not saucy. The sweet potato chips were undercooked. I tried a Buffalo wing of my friends — that was the only the I liked all night. It was good as far as wings go, very true to American Buffulo style. Drinks seemed weak. The restaurant was full so service was slow — they definitely needed more waitresses(to be fair it was a public holiday). But waitresses were lovely none the less! Ambience is ok, some lights are too bright and make it feel sterile and lacking in a good vibe. I don’t usually feel upset I spent money on a meal out — this place I did however.

If you’re after some delicious, hearty and guilty food then this is your place! The menu offers a variety of food that sounds delicious! I leaned towards the Bread crumbed chicken, with onion rings and beans with cheese sauce, and shared 3 original Buffalo wings with my friend, who opted for the Popcorn Shrimp Po Boy! The overall experience was great, the staff and atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious! Recommend for those looking for a cheat meal or some comfort eating!

This is definitely American food at its best without having to jump onto a 14-hour flight. The food is great, especially the pulled beef & pork ribs — my favourite. The drinks are not bad either. Great, friendly service too. I would recommend this place to visiting family.

As a local to Bulimba with a serious condition for wings and ribs I’m a regular here. Warning I’m a wings snob, although I do like sauce used with the buffalo wings they are never cooked long enough to properly cook and come apart easily. Therefore I try to stay clear of a big order and just get a couple as an entrée. The Brisket is good and so are the wings and my kids love the burgers and chips. Also the kids love the old Skool spider drinks here and ask for them as every Resturant we go! As there are more American style restaurants in Brisbane than stars in the nights sky there is a lot of competition. I’d suggest Southern Attitude is Middle of the pack not the best but definitely not the worst.

Menu has lots of variety, and I was excited to try the chicken fried chicken. Unfortunately a chicken breast crumbed in panko is just a chicken schnitzel, not authentic chicken fried chicken. Onion rings and fries were top notch. Companions gave me a bite of pork ribs which were great. Lots more on the menu that I want to try so will definitely be back. Staff were friendly and service was exemplary.

If you read nothing else of my review, read that this is a place best ventured to with a group. The menu is hearty and unless you have super-human eating ability you really won’t be able to experience the best of the menu as a solo diner. Still with me? Okay let’s begin. I stopped in for lunch and dined solo mid-week. Despite being school holidays it was relatively quite. This is definitely a place that needs the atmosphere of many diners to make it feel like(what I imagine) a true Honky-Donk American bar would be like. The waitresses on duty were so lovely and polite. She explained the flag system they have. Just pop the flag atop the menu holder and it signals to them you would like to ask them a question /order /ask them the meaning of life. This worked fairly well with but a handful of patrons, but I do wonder how it goes when they’re at capacity. Defeating the very purpose of dining in an American-style venue, I ordered the Mad Dog Tortilla Salad — grilled chicken, mixed lettuce, smoky bacon, tomatoes, avocado, corn, beans(green), goats cheese, sour cream, house made dressing and tortilla chips. It’s a hefty salad and it’s probably an illusion to think it’s remotely healthy, but I did figure it was more virtuous than a burger or hoagie. As far as salads go, it was filling, a good balance of all ingredients but, and this is entirely personal preference, something this robust needs to be served in a bowl not a silver platter. It’s just easier eating. All in all: a solid addition to Bulimba and gives them a part of the Brisbane fixation on US-style eateries.

With a prohibition and moonshine theme this place is more American than Murica itself. Having just returned from a quick trip to the US in the morning(where my only ‘American’ food had been a TGI Friday burger in the airport) it was nice to sort-of extend my trip a bit. They have a bunch of apparently old-style cocktails and not-quite ice teas. Beer list is not huge but pretty decent. We enjoyed a spicy dog, some tasty buffalo wings(at $ 18 for 8 not exactly value for money — you’d land in jail in the US for those kind of prices!), and yum chili cheese fries. This is a pretty fun hangout, with some decent music, nice décor, and attentive serving(we were there just before a huge reservation showed up so they probably had more staff on hand than usual).

Recently opened, they started ‘quietly’ with explosive flavours! I happened to be heading towards to cross Oxford St at the ‘safe pedestrian’ crossing when I noticed that the Thai spot is no longer and new seating and décor replaced it. I pursued the menu and the first thing I thought is «YES ‘MURICA!» Eager to try them out, I mentioned to my DH when he was finally ‘settled in’(and in the midst of removing his shoes) that I’d like to get drinks to ‘celebrate.’ He put back on his one shoe, and off we went! We ended up sharing a ‘Southern Special’ 10 Hour Braised Brisket with our chosen sweet potato fries and Bourbon glazed carrots. There’s a few of those specials(it’s on the second to last page of the menu, just after the BBQ page) — reasonably priced and they come with two sides. I’m not a big meat eater, but daaaammmn that brisket is fiiiinnnnne. And naturally, I came for the drinks — I got the Chipotle and Grapefruit margarita — perfectly sea salt rimmed Mason wide-mouth jars. Yummily sweet with a nice heat at the back of the throat. I winkled my nose at my DH’s choice of Long Island Iced Tea, because I was being a snob as that drink was my ‘young, stupid, cheap, and often watered-down preferred drink’ — but I am pleased when I tasted it – good mix and definitely not watered down(just don’t let the ice melt, k?). We also ended our meal sharing ‘Mum’s Milk Punch’(my original desire for one of their Chocolate Peanut Butter milkshake was denied by DH — he’s looking out for me). I enjoyed looking at other people’s meals, and had a giggle when I glanced at a pretty lady taking a bite out of one of their German hot dogs(…sorry, I know.) In all, we have been impressed, especially as it is a sister restaurant to La Quinta next door(we weren’t terribly impressed with the food there). They have the same ordering system where when you’re ready to order, put up the flag on the Longhorned cattle head at your table.
