I went to the one at the University of Sydney which has good food but the staff have terrible memories. Half the time I go I order a drink with my sandwich and they forget my drink, usually a Coke. When I try to remind them, they just look at me blankly and keep on walking.

The Laneway is the standout option in Cammeray for brunch or lunch. The only downside is that it is always busy on the weekend, and you may need to wait for a table(or head elsewhere). The menu options are fairly standard(such as a big breakfast, corn fritters, fish and chips, burgers), but the food is well done. About half the seating is outside, which is a downside when the weather’s not good, but means it’s dog friendly.

Dropped in on a Sunday around 10am for brekky. Quite busy, we had a short 10min wait for three. The venue itself is pretty average. Nothing that really stood out. The staff were all friendly. Some more attentive than others but they all seemed to be with the program. I had a soy mocha and I was pleasantly surprised, so much so that I ordered one for the road when we left(a very rare occurrence). Strong and sweet, as a good mocha should be. The food was great. I ordered the smashed avo and my wife had the corn fritters. The smashed avo was $ 21 and it is from memory the most I’ve ever paid in Sydney for two pieces of bread, some avocado, seasoning, and one egg. I actually really battled with justifying ordering this dish at such an inflated price. However, I will say, this was the best smashed avo I’ve had in Syd and I would gladly order it again. The avo itself had an excellent taste, not overpowering at all. The toast had some sort of a sun dried tomato past/spread over it and I think this really set off the flavour of the avo. Quite nice. My wife reported the corn fritters to be good, not bad, but not nothing spectacular. Obviously not a signature dish. Anyway, definitely worth going out of your way to make the stop.

Once my favourite Cammeray café but was overrun by mums’ groups and screaming kids so I don’t go there any more. Which is fine, if you’re a screaming kid or a mum who wants to connect with other mums, I totally get that. But I used to write and work from here, hold(quiet) business chats and it really got beyond sensible. Good coffee but limited range of pastries. Quite expensive, too. The burgers are also pretty good. The guys here also own Ms Miller and the(soon to open) Public House on Miller Street around the corner on the site of the venerable Belgian Epoque that closed last year.

I love this place. Casual, yet efficient staff and great food. I’m not a coffee guys so can’t help here sorry. The good morning burger and corn fritters are personal favourites, my girlfriend really likes the breakfast jar.

Mmmmmmmmmm, their corn fritters will rival anything you’ll get at Bills or other Sydney institutions. This is your basic breakfast joint(eggs, bircher, etc etc), but with some great«extra» options– baked eggs with chorizo, really great fluffy pancakes, eggs benedict… the options go on. There aren’t many places in Cammeray to eat breakfast, so this place wouldn’t have to try too hard to get a lot of business, but it’s clear that they’re trying to wipe out the other breakfast spots by having the best brekky in the area. The staff are super friendly as well! Have one person order the pancakes and one person order the corn fritters(comes with avocado, egg, and you should always get a side of bacon) and you’ll be in heaven forever… or as long as it takes you to inhale your food.

This is THE place to be seen in Cammeray. One saturday i saw Dwayne and Chad having lattes and then Danny walked in with his brother’s wife Alice. The whole thing is weird because Alice basically hates all of Eric’s family so I’m not sure what the story is. I had the beans which I loved, apparently more than Alice loves her children, otherwise she wouldn’t have risked her marriage by being seen publicly with her husband’s brother at such a prominent breakfast spot. Just saying.

I lived in Cammeray a few years ago, and the cafes in this little laneway off Miller Street have come a long way. Laneway itself is quite nice. It’s got the cozy neighbourhood feel, plenty of tables indoor and out, and the kind of breakfast/lunch menu that city-dwellers want on a weekend: poached eggs, mushrooms on toast, burgers, that sort of thing. My baked beans with smoked ham, a poached egg, and toast did the trick. Coffee was good, too. Take your time on a weekend morning here. It’s a very civilised way to get a feed. Quite family-oriented too.

This is our local breakfast haunt, and here is a tip peeps — they make the best coffee in Cammeray for my money. The folks here are a family business, it seems to me, and the breakfast and lunch menu is simple but delicious, with the dishes cooked to order. The baked egg and chorizo breakfast is fantastic, and their risotto is silky and smooth. The burgers are great, the service good, and the location in the sleepy lane off Miller St is divine. Although there are two adjoining establishments, one new and one old, walk on past to the Laneway, and enjoy! Trust me, I’ve tried them all. Recently they have begun to open for tapas-style dinner — must confess haven’t got there for dinner yet, but the menu bodes well.

Laneway is a great café to visit on the weekends however its my ‘break before work’ stop and I always forget the crowd of green and yellow that congregate with their parents for breakfast before they go off to school at nearby Cammeray Primary. I admire their parents they are smart people as who has time to prepare healthy, nourishing breakfasts when you can go to the Laneway every morning. The outdoors and indoor areas are perfect for families, couples and groups. The coffee is Giancarlo and the service is one of the most efficient I have had on the North Side. Breakfast is mixed grain toast which is an alternative to the brown bread I requested and the mixed grain is a beautiful suggestion. Scrambled eggs and roast tomato are perfect. The staff are very inquistive this morning as they ask me if Im working today as they look at me tapping away on the Iphone. I smile and ask what time dinners are because I intend to make a booking one night after work.

It’s all about the breaky on a slow and sunny Sunday morn at this eatery. The pancakes are a delight as is the full breakfast the pear and raspberry bread with ricotta. The coffee is ultra smooth and the fresh juice is just what you need after a big night. Some highlights are the outdoor heaters(for those chilly mornings/evenings), in the laneway away from the bustling Miller Street, very friendly casual staff(a little slow during peak periods) and the fact that it’s just down the road from my house. My only beef about this place is that they ran out of gluten free bread and another ingredient for a friends dish so we both had to order something different. It was a super busy Sunday but they asked us to choose again at about the time we were expecting the food to arrive. I’ll still be going back.

From what I have come to understand, Lane Way café in Cammeray, is a delightful place to spend an afternoon. I’m talking of course, both geographically, with its open courtyard away from the toxic fumes of the busy roads, the art made entirely of frosted/sculpted glass that stands erect in the actual lane way that the Lane Way Café inhabits, and also, metaphysically; the general feeling of calm and«Sunday Morning-ness», that the café exudes everyday of the week, at all times of the day, is peaceful and relaxed. The coffee is tasty and warm, the daylight, toasty and warm and the staff are not testy, but warm. I had a blueberry smoothie last time I was there. I parked my bike(leaned it up against their wall outside) and entered. I ordered the smoothie and the girl behind the counter expressed genuine concern about my ability to continue riding and not spill the drink, but I told her I’d be fine and only spilt a little bit of it. I did almost die though. Hands are needed in the practice of bike riding, for steering and for breaking. But it was nice that she warned me, and that’s the kind of service I look for in a café, whether I heed them or not, it’s good to know they care. The Café is always full of people and the food and drinks are reasonably priced.
