One of my favourite tapas bars in Sydney. Great churros, specials and Estrella Damm on tap. The guys who run this are taking over Cammeray. They own the Laneway café next door and have just taken over the old Belgian Epoque up the road in Miller Street that they’re turning into the Public House. Good, friendly service and fresh produce. A bit pricey but you pay for quality.

You know when you want to break up with someone and it’s going to be a tough conversation? That’s how I feel about writing this review. Had read the reviews and was jazzed to rock down to Ms Miller on a breezy Sunday arvo. From 12−6pm Sundays they have $ 6 Moritz beer cans and $ 10 bloodies, a damned fine start. I went with a mason jar of freshly squeezed apple, orange, carrot and ginger juice($ 5), went down like a dream. My friend for got the lamb and chickpea empanadillas,(3 for $ 14) which were piping hot and pretty damned good. And the waitress was a gem, bless her cotton socks. With an opening stanza like this, I had high hopes for my Grilled sardines, salsa verde and charred lemon($ 19), especially after getting served some ball-tearingly good sardines up at Byron Bay a couple weeks back. Eent. What came out was 4 tiny little fillets of fish with some dabs of green salsa. I know this is tapas, but 20 bucks for these miniature morsels? Seriously? And yeah I know, fish is expensive, and yeah, this is Sydney, but. .. c’mon. Just. Ugh. Look, everything about this place says it’s worth another shot, but I feel like a chump after getting stung on what should have been a dish that blew me out of my chinos.

FINALLY! Cammeray has been waiting in breathless anticipation for Ms Miller to open, after the demise of the forgettable café on this site recently. A news article several weeks ago alerted me to the imminent opening, and the welcome news that Ms Miller is operated by the same folks who run the neighbouring café, The Laneway, my personal favourite in the area. After several abortive attempts in the last week or two since they opened, finally the stars aligned and I managed to get there when it was actually open! Seems they are still on some kind of probation with the licensing board as they have to serve last drinks at 10 and close by 10:30. Anyhow, Friday night, 9-ish, and the place is heaving with locals chowing down on the Spanish influenced menu and the reasonable wine list. As we were late to the table so to speak many of the clear favourites were sold out — must bode well for the owners! We had meatballs, chorizo, stuffed bell peppers, lamb and pea empanadillas(I know, I haven’t heard of that either, but it is basically an empanada) and a couple of glasses of red. Fan-bloody-tastic! This is filling a niche in the area that needs absolutely plastering over, spak-filling or whatever, and we re very happy that they are here. Don’t go, you’ll hate it, there will be no seats, and the people are nasty. Now, if we could just entice a good INdian to open up in the area…
