Sushi Sushi serves it’s purpose well for quick takeaway sushi. I would even rate it a step above the usual little booths full of hand rolls in shopping centers. Ive been here many times now, if I don’t have time to visit the the Sushi Train just meters away then I head here. The girls serving are always quick and efficient and the range of rolls is broad. They have some non-rolls to choose from and a large selection of premade packs around the corner into the sitting area. I am really impressed that they offer gluten free Soy Sauce as an option and also have a section of rolls made with brown rice. The quality of the sushi itself fluctuates. Although I’ve never had anything really bad, sometimes I get rolls that seem to have sat out too long and then other times they are fresh and amazing. Definitely give them a try and don’t feel shy about exploring what they have on offer inside as well as the main display.

For me, sushi isn’t my first choice when it comes to a quick feed. Maybe its because I more accustomed to heating those western things like sandwiches and burgers. Still, I’ll dive into a sushi place if it’s a good recommendation. When we go to Chermside shopping centre, my wife always wants to hit up Sushi Sushi. Even if the line up is like six people deep their service is always quick. So one day I yielded to my spousal requests and we got some rolls. A couple of tuna, chicken teriyaki and Karachi rolls in our clear tray and we were ready to munch down. As per usual I stuck with the chicken and it wasn’t too bad. It definitely wasn’t the freshest I’d ever had. In the past I’ve had fresh chicken sushi rolls made for me and I definitely prefer them. I’m not a big fan to see congealed sauce in a teriyaki roll and in the case of Sushi Sushi experience I didn’t even manage to finish more than one piece. Non the less, my wife recommends this place, I probably wont go back there again.

I am one of those people who say they love and adore sushi, but really it’s because I only stick with the tempura style sushi’s, or the teriyaki chicken, tuna or california sushi rolls. I rarely ever try the ‘real’ and ‘authentic’ style sushi like the… uncooked fish sushi’s. It’s a texture thing. I can’t get my head around the ‘rawness’ of it. So fortunately, I do not have to really worry too much about feeling sick from sushi. This being said, I would like to note I eat a lot of ‘Western’ style sushi’s and I’ve eaten it from many other sushi trains. Contrast to the others, this place comes highly rated and recommended by me. If you can be patient and wait for your turn(it gets soo busy), then you’ll find it has very good sushi. I find the sushi to be very fresh here as they remake more so often as they sell out quick. Just yesterday I had a ‘Prawn Tempura’ sushi and it was a fresh batch. You can still feel the warmth from the freshly deep fried prawn… Mmm… Yum. It’s always best of over-order here because you’d end up lining up again for some more, like I was yesterday amongst all the Christmas shoppers. So worth it though!

Sushi Sushi has an amazing looking range, and the workday lunch crowd tells its own story. If only that was my Sushi Sushi story too. I’ve been on a crazy salmon roe kick lately and when I needed a sushi fix STAT I figured I’d go for the avocado /red roe roll. Now I know that stuff isn’t salmon roe, and it sure aint caviar but something was seriously wrong in my fairy kingdom when I bit into this roll. The avocado was old, mushy and warm, the rice showed signs of sitting out for too long and the faux roe was disgusting. I took one bite, threw it out and started dry retching in the carpark. Actually dry retching. If I wasn’t a camel(I always carry water) I would have been in real trouble. Thank God I waited until the travelator to try out my snack, I don’t think the food court needed to see that. All signs point to sushi being prepared far too long in advance, I understand they must sell enormous numbers but that should really justify a much fresher roll not something that tasted like it had been sitting out all day. Considering Sushi Sushi is located rolling distance from Hainaichi and Sushi Train I’m unlikely to revisit.
