Damn, loved this place until I ate a proper meal there. The quality of chicken was the worst thigh meat you could buy. One of us didn’t eat any of the chicken it was so full of skin and fat. I soldiered through but wouldn’t do it again. For coffee and a cake, great, I’ll be back for that.

Lemon lane appears to have lost its way recently. Closed on Sunday’s now and our last two experiences have been very average. Stressed staff, slow and uninspiring meals, not worth rushing back for.

A gorgeous, hidden, cosy spot to enjoy their all day brunch menu. Table service is a little slow I find but the food is certainly worth it. I am in love with their borlotti beans dish, the eggs are also well made and worth trying the various other options too. Some very appealing treats sit in the front counter, I’m yet to indulge in these… mainly because I have been so satisfied from the main meal!

How do you even poach eggs like that? Seriously. Perfectly. Poached. Eggs. Somewhere, someone in their kitchen got the technique JUST right, & I kid you not, the most beautiful eggs you will ever see on a breakfast plate. In hindsight, I wish I took a picture. I would frame it on my wall above my bed, & it will inspire me to eat a healthy breakfast, and constantly strive for perfection. Kind of like how people put Bruce Lee or Mohammed Ali or Michael Jordan posters up. These eggs are that inspirational. The rest of my big breakfast was excellent as well. The tomatoes were grilled just right, slightly charred on the top, but still firm & not mushy. The bacon had the right amount of crispy to balance out the strip of fat. The mushrooms were not undercooked, and juicy but not to the point of soggy. The spinach & avocado blended nicely with the other flavours, & that wedge of lime to add a slight tang to the other heavy flavours. I don’t even care that it’s a slice of Melbourne in Perth. Yes it’s a pet peeve of mine, Perth doesn’t need to be that younger sibling that’s trying so hard to be cool like their older sibling. But I digress, this little graffitied strip is good for my belly, & gets the thumbs up from me. :)

This café reminds me of Melbourne… funky street art, groovy jazz music and even groovier people. Perth really lacks these types of cafes… hopefully, more will pop up in the future. The service was great(table service available), although, it seems I was paying for it with a large coffee 50c more than what a takeaway would cost($ 4.50 compared with $ 5) I didn’t order food, but it did look delicious. Once again, the prices were a little more expensive with bircher muesli @ $ 12.6& eggs on toast @ $ 11. But hey, this is Claremont, not Balga ;)

Lemon Lane is a kind of odd ball within Perth’s tres chic shopping precinct of Claremont. I figure that’s why it’s hidden down a lane way off Bayview Terrace, as if the well-dressed town planners of Claremont shunned the artsy establishment but gave in and said«oh, alright, but keep it quiet, won’t you?» They’ve kept it quiet but they’ve certainly kept that creative personality that shines within the otherwise upper class area. A few doors down from Dilettante, but not before Lilly Loves Tea, is where you’ll find Claremont’s very own hipster head quarters. Just kidding! I do get Mount Lawley vibes from here though. The alleyway is decked out with some amazing graffiti, with even the window adorned with a spray painted drapes. The grungey sort of vibe is vaguely continued in doors, with band posters plastered over the back wall, but a very blah sort of beige and wooden interior occupying the rest of the space. I feel there’s a drastic need for some vintage bric-à-brac to really drive Lemon Lane home. If you’re just stopping by as I was(silly me forgot my Mac and couldn’t take advantage of their free wi-fi), grab a Slumdog Millionaire smoothie. It’s basically an iced chai blended with soy milk, and it’s the perfect mixture of sweet and spicy and goes down a treat on a hot day. Pick one up for me, would you?

Someone wise once said«search and you shall find». Well, hidden away from the main strip in Claremont is this little gem of a café, Lemon Lane to be exact. I had rye toast and poached eggs one Saturday morning, matched perfectly with a soy chai latte. Is there anything more hipster than that? Yes, in fact, there is. I was also wearing rolled up jeans with high top connies, a checkered button up blouse, and prescription glasses that have no prescription. You’ll find many other hipsters at Lemon Lane. I believe there’s another Lemon in Claremont, but I much prefer this one as it houses my fellow hipsters much better than any other café in Claremont. Bravo Lemon Lane, providing a haven for Perth hipsters that’s outside Mount Lawely…

Located down a street-art covered alleyway, this little café is cool, calming and the perfect spot for relaxing of an afternoon. The coffee is good — or so I’m told. I don’t actually drink coffee(shock horror), preferring to enjoy a cup of tea with one of their scrummy homemade cakes. The muffins are special — on a recent visit, they had pineapple muffins and mixed berry and lemon ones. How could I possibly decide when they both sound so delicious? My indecision must have been evident because the jolly barista said, to my intense delight, that if I couldn’t decide I could have two for the price of one! Yesssss! This was quite possibly one of the best days of my life. He wasn’t just being nice though — you too may be able to enjoy free muffins if you go just before closing time when they’re about to throw out any that haven’t been sold. You really should, because I think you’ll agree that’s a tragic waste of muffins. Save them!
