We stumbled across this place outside Claremont quarter and they were open for a late lunch. Wow, aren’t we glad Chelsea’s Pizza was closed! Imagine beautifully cooked in store slices of warm confit pork belly, inside a crunchy sour dough baguette, stuffed with a wonderfully fresh and sweet coleslaw that had a tiny spattering of raisins and pomegranate seeds. The homemade Spanish tomato sauce gave it an extra rich and alluring finish. My husband opted for a wholesome squid and scallop paella. I’m not one for paella, but this beauty was lovingly prepared using a high quality brown Spanish rice, seasoned perfectly with smokey Spanish paprika and other mildly spicy flavours including a little saffron. You can put the sunnies away as this dish was not bright yellow and artificial looking like some of the paellas you get elsewhere. One of the staff brought out some home made mayonnaise to go with it. A true party in the mouth! I fell in love with the shop design. It had a very organic wooden crate European farmers market feel, with jars of goodies on display. They sell delicatessen goods and have a large wall of hanging chorizo and cured meats. Warm down lights, whisk shaped lamp shades and a large enamel tin of sourdough, really makes this place inviting. Small and quaint, this place is not very suitable for large groups but it was easy to get a table in the late afternoon. Staff were friendly and coffee up there for Perth standards. I think I found a new gem to take my friends! Dishes can be shared as we did.

Take some of the best elements of well renowned restaurants Pata Negra & Star Anise(R.I.P.) and imagine them merged and moulded into a deli shop… I know right, what an epic thought! Well, guess what, DREAMCOMESTOREALITYWITHTHENEWLYOPENEDXACUTERIA!!! Culinary legend(in my humble opinion) David Coomer responsible for the aforementioned establishments has put this place together and it’s got to be some of the best news for a local Claremontian. I went for my first peak late yesterday with very high expectations, and I wasn’t disappointed. With a stunning selection of high quality hand made pâté, spreads, cheeses, pickled goods, gourmet rolls, daily dinner options and the absolute centre piece for me, the DELIMEATSSECTION! Let me be real clear on this point, we’re not talking about your standard deli choice of cured meats, we’re talking about a selection of world class produce including Jamon hams and a wide selection of Chorizo(home made included). Sold in 100gram portions, it’s a smorgusbord for those people that way inclined(I, am one of these people… in case I haven’t made that obvious enough yet). The chicken liver pâté is absolutely next level. It’s not the cheapest pâté in the world coming in at just under $ 12 for a 140g jar, but trust me, spread across their freshly baked bread and rolls it really is a treat you should allow yourself! I am yet to try their lunchtime rolls, but from what the staff told me(and what I read on the blackboard) they are changed daily and are made with the best ingredients they stock. I will be going there for lunch today :) This isn’t a cheap option, but I can tell you it could be a LOT more expensive! I’m told they’ve done their research and really are aiming to be able to provide world class produce for as low a pricing as possible, and I think they’ve achieved that. Go have a look, it’s a great little store and I have no doubt will generate a cult following in a very short time.
