Yum. I’m not usually in this side o’ town so I grabbed the opportunity when it presented itself. The place is a bit of a way from the usual busy Crows Nest strip of restos, which is also a positive thing because we were able to find parking readily. Didn’t experience the lines outside the door on a Saturday evening, but there was still a short wait(around 10 minutes?) and the place was busy. The interior is quite home-y and unassuming, but bustling. Don’t expect a fancy Japanese/ramen restaurant here. I ordered the«ramen in spicy hot flavoured soup with roast pork, egg, and shallots.» I loved the flavor of the soup, it had a nice kick to it. The roast pork was nice and tender(though admittedly not the most tender I’ve had in Sydney, but still super good. Tasty and filling, would love to pop by again next time I’m in the area. Note that it closes a bit early compared to other places(9PM!!!) so if you’re coming for dinner, don’t arrive too late.

Need to queue from 5:30pm, however worth the wait! Normally I order additional egg, bamboo and seaweed and noodle. For a guy, it is definitely needed.

Love Ryo’s. The queues look long but the wait is never too bad, there is a tendency to slurp down your noodles as quick as possible with all the waiting customers staring you down. This is quite close to my home and thus is a frequent haunt for an easy lunch.

If you like Ramen, definitely make a trip here. I had a spicy pork Ramen with soft boiled egg and ate every single bite. Sometimes there is a line out the front, but it is worth the wait.

Great Ramen and an authentic Japanese feel especially the décor inside. Queues move quite quickly but expect 20 minutes wait or more when busy.

Authentic ramen noodles and great broth. Must try for all ramen addicts. Beware of the line.

The best ramen place on the North Shore! There’s always a queue outside, which is tough on a winter evening, but once you get inside it’s nice and snug. Plus tables tend to turn over quite quickly. I’ve had a few different ramen options, and would recommend them all. The gyoza looks good and I’ve heard good things about the soft-shell crab, but I usually skip on them as I know one bowl of ramen is more than enough for me.

Favourite place to eat, I’ve been here at least once a week in the past year. Tasty, cheap, delicious bowls of hot ramen(get no.1), Karage chicken is so good, pork rice ball the list goes on. Where can you go for a hot filling meal for 12 $? And the Tiny little shop adds to the experience, super efficient waitresses, the food comes out very fast.

I don’t understand why Ryo’s is so popular. Always see queues outside in the cold, in the rain, when its closed — at all hours! This restaurant was also recommended in eating guides. There was nothing special about the ramen and the gyozas were small and not great. Very casual interiors and could do with some renovations. Small, not many tables and has a food court like vibe — sit on stools, eat and leave.

I had been living on the North Shore for over five years and frequently went to Balmoral Beach and every time we drove past we noticed there was a crowd of people lining up outside this little hole in the wall style eatery. Didn’t think much of it really until one of my friends said that this place made loads of Sydney guides places to eat. Flash forward five years and I moved away from the North Shore to the Eastern Suburbs and I was still yet to try this place. I decided enough was enough and crossed that great Harbour Bridge with one goal and that was to accomplish a task well and truly over due. I made it to Ryo’s and they were packed already after being open just 20 mins but luckily I was able to sneak my way in and sit on one of the bar side stools on the counter. I decided to look at the recommended Ramen and order No. 3 on the top list which was Tokyo Soy Sauce. This Ramen combined Roasted Pork, nori, egg and bamboo shoots. The broth was delicious and not too thick. The noodles were plentiful and soft. I also opted to go with an extra egg and a side of spiced kimchi. The dining experience was definitely worth all the hype that this place receives and only regret is I didn’t come here sooner. Definitely keen to try one of the more spicier ramen dishes next time I make my way across to the North.

We got here right when it opened and there were people already waiting outside to come in. The food here is really tasty but I’m no ramen connoisseur so I can’t vouch for authenticity. I like the hole-in-the-wall feel. The prices are good for Australia – nothing is cheap in Sydney. I would come back.

I had huge expectations of this place, after driving past so often and seeing a queue. It was pretty good but not quite amazing enough to deserve 5 stars. However, the gyoza were brilliant!

Prepare yourself with a long line here, but once you have tasted their ramen, you’ll want to come back for some more. Inside, this ramen place is quite small and ambience is not so special, but I come here for their food. They have their best sellers displayed on the wall and at the time I was there, the first one soy sauce tonkotsu ramen. I have to say it was one of the best ramens I’ve ever had. Will come back here to try other dishes in the menu.

I’m probably a bit biased as I live ten minutes walk from this quaint little noodle joint, but the queues stretching down the street bear testament to the delicious awesomeness inside. Had the soft shell crab, fried chicken kara-age and tonkotsu ramen #3(spicy broth) tonight — incredibly flavourful yet well-balanced. Someone has commented that this is the best ramen North of the bridge, and I’m inclined to agree. A++, would nom again.

This is definitely one of best Japanese ramen in Sydney. U must try the pork ! It is extremely yummy. The only thing is that u may need to drink lots of water coz it is a bit salty. I luv it.

Negi miso(tonkotsu base) ramen… De-fucking-licious! The buttery rich, smooth and balanced soup matched perfectly with a couple of thick and juicy slices of chashu were perfect. I still think the egg is better at places like Gumshara, but that aside, you can easily see why this place has remained so popular for so long. Absolutely one of the top 3 ramen places in Sydney!

This is a little hole in the wall place on an obscure street in Crows Nest. It is not near the main set of shops, its neighbours include a takeaway Thai place and a drive in laundromat. The only way you would recognise this place is by the queue of diners outside this tiny little shop. Diners patiently wait in line to sample some of the best ramen in Sydney. We arrived on a Friday night at 8, and had 8 people in front of us. Luckily the line moves quite quickly and within 15 mins, we were inside the restaurant ready to order. The décor of the place is simple and a little outdated. There are only a small number of tables and a few seats at the bar. We quickly place our orders, and within minutes, big bowls of steaming ramen arrive at our table. I ordered the miso ramen which was rich in flavour and so so good! My dining partner also ordered spicy ramen which he said was also really good. 2 bowls of the best ramen you can get in Sydney for less than $ 30– Bargain! I will be back!

I thought I knew ramen, until I had the experience and pleasure to eat here. A cold, pouring rain Monday night demanded a hot ramen to be had. Thanks to random Unilocal search, a near by ramen joint is open. I didn’t want to venture all the way to the city for the usual numerous ramen places so Ryo’s Noodle was the winner. Surprised to see a line outside on a night like this so I translated this as a must eat st place. After all, I was hungry for ramen. A short wait in line(taking names too) the first few people are invited in to wait in line out of the cold and in past the 2 Japanese curtains to a warm inside of ramen flavour in the air. Tho while outside if not wish to chat to others of similar needs, the window wall of the restaurant is presented with the menu of choices and a whole bunch of awards. Sexellent! There’s always a lovely(and cute) girl standing on the dining floor ready to take needs of questions and orders and cleaning up. A quick but filling order of the spicy pork ramen, miso flavour ramen with sides of gyoza, pickled rice cakes and salmon roe rice cakes. A filling order. Too late we noticed our choices were also the choice of other diners that a blackboard showed the top 5 dishes. A prompted delivery with our food was meant with equally prompted demolishment of said food. What I meant before of «I thought I knew ramen» is that this ramen was so different to what I have had but a good way. The broth was completely oil based and pork slices very tender and a generous serving size as well condiments floating on top. Here I am surprised to what have I been eating before«watery ramen» to a quite filling bowl of delicious goodness. The price isn’t too bad either. Not bad at all. I’ll will be coming back. It’s nothing fancy looking 1 small room place, but I promise you will walk away happy and full. Mark My Words

Love them, love them! Thank frigging foodness(yep I’m making up this word) I managed to tug my family along to Ryo’s one evening. My brother had been reluctant to visit Ryo’s, partly because he was hanging into the local Chatswood lifestyle on our last days of living in Chatswood, but also because he had a torrid time given his intolerance of spicy foods and his misfortune of ordering a spicy ramen last time. But alas a tired day of cleaning and moving house had saved my fortunes. We ordered: — Spicy hot flavour with roast pork, egg and shallot(no my brother didn’t order that — I did!) — Salt flavour with roast pork, shallot and sesame seeds — Ramen with pork soup with stir fried veggies and pork slices — Gyoza — Pork bun I had a bit of everyone’s noodles, as I do haha. I think in terms of roast pork, I like the ones at ikkyu in Chinatown best, and no one’s really beaten them yet. They most certainly serve them hot(and not hot from sitting in soup), and also glaze it with something with a tiny bit of sugar with it… most genius. But I digress. Back to Ryo’s. The pork slices are quite traditional and thick-cut, which I like. The ajitsuke tamago(soy sauce flavoured egg) may have been marinated a bit too long to be all-star, but I like them that way! For those who want to know, if you marinate eggs in soy sauce for too long, it hardens the egg — rubberises the white and«cooks» the yolk, killing off the oozy centre which makes ajitsuke tamago connoisseurs cringe. The greens were sufficient and the soup made them tasty. Hopefully you managed to get this far in my review without getting bored, because I’m about to talk about my favourite part of any ramen… the soup! The soup in my ramen was fantastic — rich in flavour, and the spiciness didn’t completely cover the pork bone soup flavour which is quite important. Good pork bone soup has to have a slight thickness, and full of that meaty/fatty aroma. And by fatty I don’t mean the lard type — the fat from the meat surrounding bones is quite something else. I also tasted the soup in my brother’s bowl just to enjoy the flavour with the spice. The ramen itself was also good, and was the round type — noted by how it’s all wavy and similar to the types you get in a pack of instant noodles. Between this and the straight type of ramen(probably cut), I prefer this type. Price-wise, it’s on par with what you’d expect to pay at a place on the Lower North Shore, and they have the quality to justify being there. The Japanese side ally-esque décor also struck a chord with me. Would I go back? You bet.

Matt K. and I rode our bikes here from the city(dope ride, do it if you get a chance) because we like ramen and heard this place was good. Unfortunately, this set some high expectations. The interior is really cool and casual; there’s a board featuring the top 5 ordered ramen dishes and naturally, I ordered #1: soy sauce flavour + roast pork, egg, nori, and shallot for $ 13.50. We also ordered stuff pork buns… which at $ 4.50 were not worth it. The broth was good, it wasn’t too heavy and it’s most similar to Menya. The noodles were OK, not too hard but not soft enough for my taste. The egg was a little overcooked, and the pork was unfortunately the worst part… way too dry and overcooked. All in all the place is average for my tastes, I’m not sure I would venture out of the city to come here again, considering the other options in the CBD.
