I had come here last time we were in Sydney about 6 years ago, and was keen to come here again. Luckily, it was just as gorgeous this time around as last, and I was looking forward to trying the Bills speciality of scrambled eggs. The atmosphere is great here, and the staff are very friendly. What can I say about the scrambled eggs? Well, they are cooked with CREAM, and it was like a slab of cream on the plate. Wow, amazing :) I had bacon on the side too, but that was probably overkill, as the serve was so huge I couldn’t finish it! My partner chose a healthier option of quinoa amaranth and buckwheat porridge with rhubarb and greek yoghurt — she was very very impressed, and couldn’t stop raving about it(she said it had just the right amount of tang). I hope Bills is still here next time we come back to Sydney. but judging by how busy it was on a Monday morning, I’m pretty sure it will be!

Stopped by here for breakfast yesterday, the menu was essentially the same as the menu they have in Hawaii. I ordered the soft boiled eggs with sour dough toast. Cute presentation with the eggs still in its still shell so you have to crack them yourself. Toast was good. My girlfriend had the ricotta pancakes which she loves. She says it’s he best pancakes in the world lol.

After my experience at Social Brew(review posted), I didn’t think that breakfast in Sydney could get any better. I didn’t know how wrong I could be. For those who have read my reviews, I don’t often lavish 5 stars very often. But, in the case of Bill’s, 5 stars is highly deserving. Located on a quiet street corner in the cute Darlinghurst neighborhood, Bill’s is an unassuming place from the outside. Large windows reveal beaming patrons happily eating their breakfasts. Those same windows let in loads of light that, along with the Danish-inspired design aesthetic, create an open, airy environment. But I didn’t walk 20 minutes to experience the sunlight or décor. No, I came to Bill’s for the much vaunted scrambled eggs, called by many to be the best in Australia. Yes, I know, what could be so good about a plate of scrambled eggs? Well, after eating there twice, I completely understand what all the fuss is about. Never in my life have I had eggs which quite this kind of soft, velvety texture. They were like a custard, but not dense like one. Scrambled(actually, think of them as folded) eggs are quite a unique experience at Bill’s! Rounding out the full Aussie plate was a portion of back bacon, housemade pork sausage, roasted tomato, mushrooms and thick toasted sourdough with a thick slab of grass-fed butter! Also enjoyed was the Bloody Mary, which was lighter in body than most, but no less flavorful. It had a wonderful herbal freshness and a good bit of spice. Tried the corn fritters, which were quite good but not something I would order again. Unlike the eggs. :) Service is outstanding; friendly and attentive. The queue can be long on the weekends, so be sure to get there early or just make a trip out there during the week. You will not be disappointed.

Such a fresh, fantastic breakfast. We had the chicken-fat fried rice and the Full Aussie. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy! We added toasted coconut bread. The drinks we had included the Bloody Mary, Breakfast martini and the Rose drink. The only thing better than the food was the excellent service from Gayle. We will be stealing her to come home with us!

Apart from the hotcakes, I found the mains and appetizers was very average… especially since it took an hour to whip up… I was expecting something spectacular. Much to my disappointment the food wasn’t great and the customer service was appalling! Don’t come unless you wanna pick a fight with some waitresses

Always a favourite of mine. You can’t go wrong and dining at Bills never seems to fail us… Food and service is always outstanding!

This place is rated to be one of the best place for brunch in Sydney. They serve all day breakfast till late afternoon, so this a a great place for those who love all day breakfast or late starters. Got the full Aussie with bacon, scramble eggs, sausages, roasted tomatoes, and mushrooms. Big portion, however I was able to finish it no problem. Service — 4.5 Food — 4 Atmosphere — 4.5 To avoid long line up… Come early or late!

First time at Bills and was worried it would be overrated but it was a lovely café. Very relaxed atmosphere and excellent service. The zucchini fritters were delicious and the wait wasn’t even bad for a table.

I am all for ricotta hotcakes and I came to Bills specifically to try this here but I must say, I am a little disappointed. Firstly we lined up for 20 minutes to come here which is fine, as most places in Sydney there is a little bit of a wait. The service was good and we got coffees right away but $ 4.10 for a Piccolo? Day light robbery! I don’t know why this annoyed me so much. Anyway, everything was fine and dandy but it took about 30 minutes to get our food. The café had quietened down a bit since we first arrived, and there were plenty of empty tables. My friend and I finished our coffees and were wondering why the food took so long! The actual food, Ricotta Hotcakes, were delicious! No doubt about it. But I have had the same ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter and banana at a café down in Brighton where I didn’t have to wait about 30 minutes to get my food. I got a takeaway flourless orange cake for my fiancé and it was quite dry. It seemed that there were some sort of syrup poured on the cake but it was dry. Overall, i would say the food is good, but the service and the wait just really turned me off so I wouldn’t come back in a hurry.

I leave 50m away from Bills. New in town, I was always wondering why were people queuing every weekend outside this small café. Having been there twice now — I understand. The restaurant layout is very convivial and warm, making me think about a Scandinavian café. Newspapers are spread on the tables to have The food is amazing: ricotta hotcakes are a must, and so are scrambled eggs. The best I ever had(I would not imagine how big the difference would be!). For lunch I also loved green tea noodles with salmon. So tasty and fresh. So yes there is often a queue but it is definitely well deserved and worth it.

If you don’t like Eggs, & you want to, GOHERE! You’ll be a convert in no time with The best scrambled eggs in Sydney that you will have!!!(& the ricotta pancakes aren’t too far behind!) We live more than 30 minutes away from Bills but the drive is ALWAYS well worth it. The Quaint and homely atmosphere is well complimented by the friendly staff, delicious food and well balanced single origin coffee. My wife is a huge tea lover and she swears this is one of the only places that actually gets it right! Service is swift and attentive, and food fast to follow suit.(Probably something to do with the huge waiting list that develops to get a table). Definitely a must in the Sydney breaky foodie scene!

Yum, hotcakes! Great food overall. A little too loud though and the staff seems distracted.

We came here 15 years ago and never forgot the ricotta hotcakes and scrambled eggs with cream. Given my husband and I travel all over the world and eat out frequently, it’s unusual to have certain places stand out for so long. We returned with our boys and the atmosphere was the same– cool and airy– and the hotcakes were so good we ordered an extra serving. The corn fritters are a special– they’re good but not very«breakfasty». We will buy Bill’s cookbook upon returning home!

This place is way overrated. Food is good but nothing that was amazing enough to come back for. Service was unimpressive although mostly friendly. And found it particularly annoying that I couldn’t simply substitute scrambled eggs for poached ones as if it changed the entire breakfast. This was my 2nd time here and completely underwhelmed both times. NO Thank you.

Meh, Bills is nice but nothing special and certainly not worth queuing for! I had the scrambled eggs(supposedly the best in the world!) which were nice but nothing special. The coffee was decent but the overall experience did not live up to the hype.

Bill’s is ever popular and you can guarantee that if coming for breakfast on a weekend you’ll find yourself waiting up to 20 mins or more for a table. I lived in Sydney for 3.5 years without experiencing Bill’s but that all changed this past weekend. Bill’s, a favourite for our Sydney-based family, was top of their list of place to take us to for a leisurely Sunday brunch so wait we did. To the credit of the staff our table was available far quicker than I’d anticipated from reading Unilocal reviews for this location and the Surry Hills café. So, Sydney-siders I know this café has a bit of a reputation as «THE» spot for a breakfast in the Emerald City and granted, my zucchini fritters with natural yoghurt, haloumi, a poached eggs and salad greens with the Bill’s Raw smooth(almond milk, LSA, cocoa and banana) were good and delivered quickly to the table, but I’m struggling to understand the fuss. There’s plenty of equally and possibly better breakfasts and brunches to be had in laneways, suburban streets and hidden spots across your fair city that I just don’t get what’s so special about this particular one. If you find yourself dining with die-hard fans of Bill Grainger or a fan of a consistently good breakfast then by all means take a spot in the line and enjoy a wholesome and efficiently served meal here.

Great service, great food, and very pricey$$$$$ First off, I’ve gotta mention that this is easily the most expensive breakfast I’ve ever had. Dining alone, I spent $ 58 on myself. I paid less for brunch at The Four Seasons on the big island of Hawaii the previous week. I had to sample the ricotta pancakes but I wanted eggs and shit so I went with The Aussie breakfast. It was SO good! Everything tasted fresh. The eggs, the sausage, the bacon, the tomatoes, the spinach, and the mushrooms. .. all of it. The ricotta pancakes. .. meh. I’ve had much better pancakes in the US. I was more impressed with the Aussie Breakfast than the hotcakes. The ricotta pancakes were okay, just far from memorable. To drink I ordered up Bills Greens which was basically juiced greens. Way too much ginger juiced in for my taste buds. All in all, a very pleasant experience. A little bit of a jaunt from the tourist part of Sydney. A short-ish walk from Hyde Park that is a bit hilly and give you a chance to work off your brekkie.

Ricotta stuffed banana hotcakes(19.90) were very, very good, and the lemonade — with its slight hint of carbonation and not too sweet-ness was also a big hit with our table. People say the service at Bill’s feels a bit stiff/formal, but it’s nothing that a mouth full of hotcakes won’t help you get over ;-)

Word has it that Bill’s pioneered the breakfast culture in Sydney. This location in Darlinghurst is also the original location. We were there on a Monday and the wait for a table wasn’t too bad at only 10 – 15 mins. Loved the décor and ambience of Bill’s. White walls with hints of spring colored décor on the wall, and a ton of natural sunlight. Bill’s scrambled eggs are also reputed to be «the best in the world» and they are pretty darn good. It was very light, fluffy, and almost airy. My cured ocean trout was also very fresh and was perfect with my poached eggs and toast. The only one thing I would improve is the slow service. While we appreciate a laid back and relaxed brunch, I’d have to say that service was really really slow that morning. Granted, it was a busy morning but there were only 2 servers that time. That said, Bill’s does wonderful breakfast. If this wasn’t enough, I actually went seeking out his cookbooks at bookstores after our breakfast at Bills’.
