Kooky and quiet — food service a bit slow, but pizza’s worth the wait. Interesting selection of cocktails and attentive wait staff.

This little bar is tucked away in the same Laneway that houses Shady Pines Saloon. Look for the doorman randomly standing in the Laneway or alternatively enter via a pizza shop on Oxford st and head downstairs. As the name suggests the bar is nautical themed with a row boat converted into seats and other sailing themed props. Bar tenders are really friendly, so grab a seat at the bar and stop for a chat over a rum cocktail. The piña coladas are delish!

You can sit at the bar, order [several] piña colada at the bar and pretends you’re on holiday here. The cocktails are awesome and I wasn’t surprised to find out Luke Redington(ex Eau-De-Vie) was involved. You’ll pay what I consider somewhat standard Sydney prices($ 16 – 18). I liked the crowd here. Thought it was quite laid back and unpretentious, without being weird or dive-y. You can come here for a chilled out night and sit at the bar or dance. You can dress up or go more casual. No dramas. When we went it was busy, but no queue. Overall, great first impressions of this place and definitely hoping this turns into a regular spot for me.

The new incarnation of luke(Eau de vie) and marco(island bar). What more can I say? Relatively new place with a nautical theme and kick ass drinks. Not to mention a neverending soundtrack of great music(I always think that don’t stop believin by journey sounds great at 2am, or maybe it’s the booze). The calamari is outrageous, and the bar staff is awesome, fun and accommodating. So what more can you ask for? Just down the alley from shady pines, well worth the saunter. It’s getting busier and busier, so you’d best get your ass there so you can tell your friends all about it when they can’t get in because of the queue!:) P. s. Piston head beer in a tinny, need I say more!!!

Fun name and theme, but Hello Sailor was a bit more clean-cut than I’d hoped. South Seas-style décor includes a faux parrot and a wooden boat shaped seat. Its a bit cute. I think this sailor needs to be worn in though. Like a pristine pair of new shoes, in need of a few scuffs. Right now it’s feeling a bit more Newport Beach than Sailor Jerry. 10 years of wear and tear and this bar will be aces. The guy behind the bar was really friendly and swapped my friends terrible wine choice for a nicer drop, at no charge. Much appreciated. Also: Cinnamon Margaritas .

Came here for a birthday party and can say that it’s a cool new speakeasy-ish small bar just off Oxford Street. They really run it with the Sailor theme here, so you can totally dress the part to fit in… get here early as the lines queue up fast after 9pm and it gets quite crowded. When you walk in you’re greeted by a mural, bar’s on the left and you can order food upstairs. Service is great, drinks are pretty affordable, the food is pretty standard fare(fish and chips) but the lobster burger stood out. It’s a welcome new addition to Darlinghurst.
