Spectrum is a great and eclectic place to see some live music as it’s so small, it’s almost like seeing a band in a garage! I’ve seen a couple of bands there and it may not be the best sound ever but it’s no big deal.
Actually the whole ‘complex’ around the Spectrum is an interesting place. There’s a selection of little bars sitting right next to, and on top of each other. There’s the Xchange Hotel, Phoenix, Nevada and Vegas Lounge and 34a and 34b Oxford Street. To be honest every time I’ve been there I’ve had a couple of drinks under my belt and it’s all a bit confusing for a simple person like myself!
Still if you get the chance to see a live band at Spectrum (or 34a or 34b Oxford St) then it’s well worth it. You could probably do a mini pub crawl within about a 5 metre radius too!

I am a little unsure as to where Spectrum ends and Q Bar starts, so I think these will need to be divided into separate reviews. Best experienced as a venue for an intimate gig, Spectrum is a pretty sweet place to catch a random show when you get those «I haven’t been to a show for a while» kind of feelings.
In this format, the room is like a shoe-​box, in the best possible way. There’s more or less no division between you and the band, to the point where crossing the room to reach the bar feels like an act of poor etiquette. So try and hole up near the bar to cut down on your faux pas feelings and load up on your liquid sustenance. The exterior and staircase leading up to the bar area is pretty dated (intentionally or not, I don’t know), but this just adds to the charm.

Specstrum is an excellent choice when you want to enjoy a night of great music and a night out of dancing. In spite the polished appeal of its ambiance, it manages to retain a warm and welcoming atmosphere to all its patrons. Apart from the usual drinks menu, they also offer pizzas to go along with your wine or basic spirit. In addition, they also hold frequent promotional events like the Friday night drinks so you can enjoy most beverages at a $ 5 steal. What else can you ask for? Overall, it’s a good place to unwind and enjoy casual drinks.
