History

Established in 1990.

The land at 15 Riverside Road, East Fremantle, on which the popular Left Bank is situated, has a history which is very much part of East Fremantle and Fremantle.

The history of the building goes back to 1889, when Thomas and Fanny Carroll purchased the land and from there ran a boat building business. Thomas William Whiteley, built the home as well as other historical buildings in Fremantle — the house became colloquially known as ‘The Boat Builder’s House’.

Ownership changed a couple of times until Clough Engineering Group were successful with their tender for a proposed Bar, Café and Restaurant. The Left Bank Bar, Café and Restaurant opened its doors to the public in 1990.

The Left Bank has now been under the same ownership since 2000.

In February 2015, the upstairs restaurant closed its doors to make way for a new bar and function space. The new ‘River Bar’ is now situated in the upstairs floor with its beautiful surrounding balcony overlooking the Swan River.
