Strolling down Albany Highway in search of breakfast, the Nest looked busy & inviting. At a glance, the menu looked promising, with a few listed ‘vegan options’ including soy based milkshakes. As no staff came to seat us or take orders, my dining companion went up & returned with water & glasses. Sadly, the water had more taste than my toasted foccacia which was $ 10 of nothingness: two slices of bread, a bland tomato, a few spinach leaves, some tasteless floury pumpkin and random drizzles of shop bought balsamic glaze. And my dining companion who is usually a hollandaise fan, was not well pleased with his eggs benedicte either. I hate wasting food but God help me I could not eat it. It made me so sad. When there are so many great places serving super tasty, vibrant, exciting plant based foods, it just seems like such a waste to offer the option & deliver bland

The Sparrows Nest is a friendly community café with a warm, approachable vibe. It’s fast becoming known for its quality Yahava coffee and innovative ways to serve it(crème brûlée coffee, anyone?) alongside the general down-to-earth nature of the management and team. In terms of food, the Sparrows Nest has vastly improved since its initial relocation(from a late night pop up down the road) 18 months ago. They’re gradually polishing their menu from average café fare to delicious signature pancake combos and healthier salads for lunch. They’ve also fully embraced their furry, four legged customers with a ‘puppy hydration station’ and a jar of dog treats on the coffee counter. Love this place. I’d give them six stars if I was rating on service alone… some of the nicest hospo folks you’ll ever meet.

After reading Tuesday’s newspaper and seeing the awesome coffees available here, I had to try it. I had the brekkie wrap with scrambled eggs and bacon, it was delicious. It was surprisingly big and filling too. I also had the crema brûlée coffee. It was just as described, I really enjoyed cracking the top and licking the crystallised sugar from the glass, yummm! A thick layer of caramel sit at the bottom of the glass. You can stir in as much or as little as you want. N had the breakfast muffin and he enjoyed it and said his coffee was good too. I’m loving this place! I’ll be back some of the other treats we saw come out of he kitchen :)

*Such* a lovely brunch place. Great food and friendly service. The place does get packed on the weekend so reservations is a good idea.

Average food but great atmosphere and service. There wasn’t anything great about the dishes at this joint unfortunately. Just basic brekkie that you could whip out yourself at home kinda thing. Coffee and staff were above average! Very friendly and laid back. You have to try their specialty coffee! Comes with evaporated milk which i think is something different. :) Price weren’t too pricey but could be cheaper for what they are actually serving. Very rustic deco with all sorts of furnitures from milk crates to vintage couches. Tastefully done. Overall, you can’t go wrong dining here when vic park is pack with breakfast goers!:

I love the look of the new shop. It’s quirky, rustic and feels very warm and comfortable when you step in the door. The wooden furniture and turquoise colour scheme is gorgeous and a lovely old piano against a wall of gig posters is a fun feature. A «puppy rehydration station», vintage china and sweet potted shrubs creates a very chilled out vibe, very«make yourself at home». Yes please. The breakfast menu is small and very easy to decipher — no need to google ingredients which makes for a very nice change. You will find the usual breakfast choices with a few twists. I went with the Vegetarian Breakfast on this particular morning. It featured fried eggs, thick cut turkish toast, mushrooms, wilted spinach, hash browns, tomato and baked beans. My only suggestion for the girls is I would have liked to have seen homemade hash browns and beans alongside the big brekky usuals. The eggs were perfectly cooked sunny side up and everything tasted extremely fresh. It definitely hit the spot! The kitchen is also semi-open to the dining area so if you are nosy like I am and enjoy watching your breakfast bring cooked, this is your place!

Fantastic attitudes matched by great coffee and good food. Trish and Lara are very accommodating and clearly pay attention to their customers, recognizing me after just a few visits. I never frequented their previous location but by all counts their new premises are a big step up in terms of space and food offerings.

I came here today with my wife and some friends. The staff were super friendly and efficient, plus the food was really good. I’ll return for sure.

Yay! I’m a fan, indeed. The old sparrow was this tiny little café, cute with attitude but too claustrophobic for me to spend long periods of time. A while back, I had gone in for coffee and quickly changed it to take away. Since then, I would drive by and envy their poetry nights and such, but never actually visit properly… .until they made their permanent move to their stand alone, and charming new location. It’s decorated beautifully and gives you a homely feeling all around. The place is surrounded by wood and bird figures(duh) and the girls behind the counter are always happy to help. Two girls about my age seem to be running the whole place(with the help of their amazing staff, of course) and their enthusiasm and love for TSN shows through each time. They serve Yahava coffee better than some of the baristas at Yahava and their selection of sandwiches and brekky items are adequate, delicious and quickly served. They also stay open relatively late so you can get your caffeine and chicken Panini fix anytime, An Albany HWY favourite for sure.

Sparrow’s nest has recently reopened at a new location and my god– does it impress! Open plan style, decorated in a quirky, kitsch style. Very impressive attention to detail with something cute in every corner plus outdoor seating for Perth’s lovely sunny days. This place is serious about coffee, the quality is undeniable and has become a firm favourite of mine. Checked out their food menu for the first time today and it didn’t disappoint.
