I came here after a morning bike ride down from South Melbourne so I was well ready for some breakfast. I ordered the ‘Breakfast Club’ which was not what I expected but was pleasantly surprised by. Tasty, filling and decently priced. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that they serve almond milk coffees! Mine was on par. I’d come here again. It seems to be quite popular with a lot of cyclists in the area too.

Another very average café in Elwood. The breakfast menu has the normal bacon and eggs/avo in toast. The good side is that the coffee is pretty good and it isn’t too hard to find a table. The wooden floor boards also make it pretty noisy.

Very comfortable café with great food. Weekdays are best when it’s laid back. Can get rushed on weekends but the great vibe makes this bearable. A favourite of mine.

This is one of those cafes that isn’t good, but isn’t bad. The food is ok, the coffee is ok, the ambience is ok and the service is ok, but nothing really grabs my undivided attention. It’s good if you want a table straight away, and if you’re not too bothered by getting one soft poached egg and one hard poached egg on your plate.

Why did you sweeten my latte(think they call it a short black there), mister? Yuck! And it was difficult parting with about $ 10 for a glass of fresh juice. The ambiance of this place on the corner is really nice, and the owner did a good job. The various kinds of tables(both inside and out) lend to such a pleasant atmosphere to hang out. Prices run on the higher side, and I just couldn’t get over the ruined coffee drink. Free wifi here, and the best thing about it is its location, sporting a large, sunny outdoor area for imbibing and chowing down. PS strong, flat white= café latte without head of foam. Popular espresso order there.

Café De Cuba is pretty much your everyday nice but not great café situated in a good area. Typical Australian, and with very much an empty feel I wasn’t sure how much I enjoyed my experience there. Everything was fine. Just weren’t great and I couldn’t help but look across the road at some other places full of laughter and character. The coffee wasn’t all that bad but ambiance was a let down and with such a nice location and a spacious outdoor area I feel like there is a lot of potential not being realized or utilized.

I don’t like the saying«Well this is awkward» but the last time I went to De Cuba I could not help myself from saying it. I had long hair at the time and was out with my mum, as the waiter approached our table he could see my mums face and the back of my hair. As he greeted us, he said«How is everything today ladies?» I turned to him and said«Well this is awkward». Sometimes it’s not just the food or the coffee that makes us like a place but the moments that are created. In this case it’s the food and coffee that make me like this place as the moments were embarrassing.
