Cream Buns(Check) Variety of Pies and Sausage Rolls(Check) Fresh Bread(Check) Ferny Way Bakery is the typical suburban bakery that we all grew up with. It’s smells divine from the moment you walk in the door and is full of yummy ‘traditional’ bakery fare. From the pies, with a good variety of fillings, including a chillie pie(that was tasty but not spicy hot) to caramel tarts and other sweet treats. The staff are always friendly and the products are made through out the day so you can go in a little after lunch and there will still be fresh pies available. A great option for a snack on the go(that takes you back to when you were a kid).

Warm and charming, small, independent suburban bakery, ok so they can’t make coffee that well, so they’re not across rhubarb friands or organic artisan rye, and this is exactly why I love them. My favourite menu item is a fruit salad tart, a pastry shell filled with tinned, yes tinned fruit topped with a thick passionfruit icing. Delicious. Eat it in the car with a chocolate Breaka like a tradie.

I’m always sceptical when I see a bakery advertising that its won awards or it’s claiming that it’s the best in the city/state/country. It leads always much to disappointment. I went into the Ferny Way Bakery to grab a pie after leaving my computer for repair at a nearby shop. Inside the bakery I was met with a friendly smile and the uplifting scent of freshly baked goods. I looked over what was in the store and I was amazed at the range and the sheer beauty of the breads, rolls, cakes and pies in the store. When I finally managed to get myself to the pie cabinet there was a huge variety for me to choose from and being the simple man I am I got the steak and mushroom pie. It tasted delicious. The pastry that held it together was thick on the bottom and crusty on top. The filling was a perfect balance of gravy, chunky meat and mushrooms. There was no need to insult this pie with tomato sauce. On the way out I noticed a humble little award stuck to the wall on the way out. Apparently Ferny Way Bakery won the best bakery in Queensland award in 2010. Good work.
