Melbourne, as arguably the cultural capital of Oz, is stocked to the brim with high-class restaurants, foodie paradises(paradisii?), and fancy cocktail lounges. But sometimes, you just want a casual place with a chill vibe, and some decently-priced great beer. Little Creatures is a little bit outside of the CBD in Fitzroy, so it’s more of a local crowd than the touristy and businesspeople you’ll find elsewhere. Great beer and great pub food, it won’t be too damaging to your wallet, and it’s nice and laid back. Grab the tasting flight of little ponies so you can try more of their stuff! A really awesome place in Fitzroy. HUGE place that can fit seemingly 400+ people. Lots of places to sit: benches, couches, bar, tables. There are tons of great appetizers and snacks to order, all delicious or you can get proper lunch or dinner. Tap selection is 8+ house beers plus other Australian micro guest lines like White Rabbit and Mountain Goat. Bottle list had some rarities and oddities when I was there so give the bottle list a glance. I came by for lunch and had a blast– crowded and fun with plenty of space to chat and relax. Very cool concept and highly recommended. Food was very good.

So fun! The décor here is cute. Shares the jamon and a pizza and they both were amazing! Not your average pub fare here that’s for sure. I sampled three of the beers and thoroughly enjoyed each of them! Service was a bit slow, but this is a great spot!

First went there about 5 years ago food wasnt grate. Tryed it again last night menu has changed very filling prices a resonable Service was good very busy for a Tuesday night. Meals out very quick after ordering about 20 mins. Very comfortable and relaxing good place to chill. One thing I must say for how busy it is the toilets were very clean hard to find nice place and clean toilets to go with the venue.

The superior LC imo. Yea it doesn’t have the waterfront location/view but the atmosphere, staff and food is better. I don’t know why it’s so different in feel from the one in Freo but it is. Maybe it’s because the staff are always friendly and the atmosphere laid back(surprised that Freo wasn’t laid back). We’ve been coming here regularly since it opened, we take all our visiting friends and family here and it never disappoints. The food is lovely as said, a long time fav is the spiced Dahl and flatbread, corn on the cob, croquettes and chorizo! One nice improvement since some time back is decent AC(unlike the Freo one that’s too hot for me). One thing though — it gets ridiculous busy on weekend evenings. I refuse to queue for beer so I just avoid it at those times. Perfect on a weekend arvo or weekday evening.

Stumbled across this fabulous place by accident and fell in love. So much fun! An outdoor(street side) covered patio area which attracted us but we elected to sit in the high ceilinged converted warehouse space with a very large open kitchen. It buzzed, the staff were great, the whole ambience is hip. Cool music playing, people laughing and enjoying the whole experience — from families to couples and parties. The space was big enough there were zero problems. I am sure the beer is awesome but we stuck with red wine — a delicious cab/merlot blend. Couldn’t resist starting with their fries with garlic aoli. OMG the VERYBEST fries in the World. Just crispy enough, not peeled, salted just right and a HUGE bowl. In combination with the creamy aoli it was(sorry got to say it) — orgasmic. The nearest I have ever experienced before were the best Belgian frites or «patat met» — acclaimed as being the best in Europe but here modestly in Melbourne they simply Kick Ass!!! Oh yes, the lamb pie(shareable) perfect as was the pana cotta. We will be back later this week!

Ever since I first stumbled across this place I have been wanting to have a meal here with my friends, and now I have done that twice. While it is more of a restaurant(as is clear by the name) people still come here for a drink or three, namely of beers made by the Little Creatures Brewery(no surprise there), however there is the option of breakfast and lunch menus(though most of the food is that ‘tries to be uniquely Australian and fails abysmally’ type of food — I think Lonely Planet calls it Mod Oz). However, I still quite like this place, if only for the fact that it is a dedicated craft beer bar(or restaurant). The inside appears to be a converted warehouse, with a couple of rooms at the front designated as lounge areas(though there is no smoking in these rooms — if that is what you want to do then you are unfortunately relegated out the front). Still, a pretty good place to grab a decent bite to eat, and not really that crowded either.

Okay, if I weren’t so full of good food and beer I could probably write a stelar review of this place. Another couple and ourselves met for a near last minute meal out with 4 kids. A huge booth and lightning fast service later, we had drinks and the kids had food which meant everyone was happy. The booth, while open was quite cozy for everyone and we had no complaints. The food… yes, well the dukkah hummus for starters was very tasty. I had the pork sliders which if you type too quickly become porn sliders, but okay let’s focus. It might as well be food porn it was so good. We also tried the hot chicken wings, of which we were truly skeptical having yet to have anything remotely close to US style, messy, actually hot type wings. These were the best yet. With ranch dressing! The heat was there. Almost too much, but still good. We finished off with the brownies and the salted caramel doughnuts and ice cream. Brownies = good. Salted caramel doughnuts, served hot… I mean seriously people! This place is huge and yet still has character. Just go already. Love, Uncle John

Little creatures dining hall has a great atmosphere with an amazing venue once you sit and take it all in. Their specials on the menu were the best bet and the service was excellent but a tad slow. Beers are easy drinkers with a wide arrange. Best to go with a group. If you cannot be seated you are presented with a free drink card for your next visit.

Little Creatures is fighting the good fight of producing craft beer in Australia and educating the masses. One of my personal favs at moment is their Bright Ale. And a lot of people are excited about their 6.4% abv IPA. Not all of their single batch experiments have been to my liking, but I give them a thumbs up for trying new things! The food is pub style basics with a bit of a twist for the Brunswick St hipsters. Ex: Pizza, but with toppings like asiago, pumpkin, and caramelized onion. I enjoyed the olive plate I sampled and there are some options for vegetarians too. While the food is okay, I prefer to drink my meals at Little Creatures! The real reason to go here is for the beer — it’s where their passion and expertise lie.

The dining hall at first glance could be any other warehouse to restaurant conversion but if you take some time to look into all the events and special offerings that they put out there it is a lot more than that. The food is pretty good pub standard fare with lots of things to potentially share which all go perfectly with beer. Great vego options– I love the Dahl and it’s cheap and filling and hard to finish as well as the zucchini and the mushroom pizzas. The cured salmon is a smaller share option but so delicious. The simple more bar things like chips, olives and croquette hit the spot and good if you’re just popping in for a couple. The crew at LC have a lot of fun experimenting with their different brews and they are starting to become very focused on brewing seasonal beers. Check out their single batch brews when they are in stock and take the time to ask the staff about it– they really know their stuff! If you are into getting to know your beers more they put in a beer school once a month in a Thursday. This is free and I can’t say enough good things about it. Learning and drinking= good. For free= amazing. They really know how to host guests and they are clearly so passionate about what they do. Anyway this place is perfect for bigger group and to sit back at and enjoy the free wifi with a cold one.

Shout-out to the Unilocaler who pointed out all the«Bön-Iver» type waiters because we were amused by them all night. I love the ciders here — always a delight. Little Creatures is always bustling and a great place for groups to gather. We weren’t famished so we shared a meatball pizza among three people and it was perfect. There is a delicious and fantastic time to be had at Little Creatures!

Lots of Bön Iver type waiters here, and the crowd leans precariously toward hipster. Great draft pale ale, and food is okayish. Croquettes are yummy, as are the chips. But then again, they’re hard to do wrong. Pizzas are more ho hum, and of these we had 3– spicy meatball, eggplant, prawn pea and panchetta. Significant leftovers there. Extra points for the ambiance– bright, warm and buzzy. Everyone’s excited and animated, and the Bön Iver type waitstaff sweep by ever so coolly. Price point is fair, kinda explains why the place is such an institution.

It’s hard to miss this massive venue on the quieter end of the Brunswick st bar strip. Enter into the converted warehouse and you will find row upon row of tables filled with lots of happy students, workers and Brunswick st types. It’s a good pub for grabbing a bite to eat with friends and having a beer. Obviously they sell lots of Little Creatures beer(it’s pretty much the standard price like everywhere else in the area so don’t think just because its the breweries pub it will be discounted). The food has a fancy and tasty version of classic pub meals. All the meals are pretty filling.

Oh I was so hungover when I ventured out to Fitzroy to meet a friend for lunch. The last thing I was in the mood for was more beer, and I needed some greasy carbs STAT. The waiters were very patient with my incoherent mumblings, and didn’t get frustrated when we just couldn’t decide what to order. Thank you guys. It’s a great vibe for a weekend lunch — very relaxed, and even family friendly. It is basically a big warehouse, with a really amazing sound system. Good for everything from couples to large groups, from a full-blown feast to just a few quiet drinks. I started with a bowl of chips and homemade lemonade before ordering my main. The lemonade came out in a little jug which was really cute. It’s not quite what I was expecting(I’m more used to the sour, sugared American style lemonade), but it was incredibly refreshing. The chips were absolutely mind blowing. I could have eaten the entire bowl to myself. They were really light, with the potato skin left on and served with a very nice aoili. The mains were pretty decent — I got the steak and mushroom pie which came with gravy, mash, and peas. It was a very decent serve and extremely filling. I suspect though that their woodfried pizzas are their speciality. The beer is exactly as you would expect — it’s the Little Creatures Brewery, so don’t come expecting to get anything other than that obviously! I especially enjoyed that you can order ‘pony’ size, which is smaller. This means you can sample a few more things without filling up on a few lunch pints!

This really is one of my favourite places. It does help that I have lots of good memories here, and that I’m a Bright Ale/Pale Ale fan. Little Creatures is fantastic during lunch, early dinner, late dinner, late night drinks… It’s a very versatile space to eat, drink and have conversation. Go with a group of friends. Go casual, or dress up. Drink little, or drink too much! The service is quite good for such a large hall. Wait times on food and drinks can differ depending on the time of night. Try the pizza, calamari salad, or burger. Most of the food is quite good, and not too expensive at all. Don’t attempt to book anything, it’s just too hard. You’re much better off drinking at the bar or one of the long tables out the front until something frees up.

Make sure you try the Pumpkin Pizza. It’s as good as what television makes out what American college to be like. Hot tip. For all the meat lovers out there, try adding some chorizo to it! You will find yourself saying«remember when I said that other dish was the best I’ve had? Well stop the press!!»

We went to Little Creatures on a Sunday arvo — perfect day for drinks: sunny and warm… a ripper of a day, slightly tainted though by the knowledge that we had to work the next day! I’d been to this place before pre-yelp and I remember how much I liked the setup — massive interior warehouse style open-plan interior that houses large tables and benches/chairs. There are also some seats outside. Little Creatures offers a wide variety of beers and ciders however no cocktails so, even if you’re after something as basic as a G&T, forget it, it’s not gonna happen. They also serve food and, on the menu, you’ll find a variety of pies, pizzas and salads. I think they may have free-Wifi as well. Set in the heart of Fitzroy on Brunwick Street close to Johnston Street, Little Creatures is a great place to chill and catch up over a bite, beer or cider…

Seriously though — what is the big deal over Little Creatures Dining Hall? I don’t know whether or not I’ve had a stroke of bad luck, but every single time I’ve come here recently I end up being disappointed. Ambiance: I’ll be the first to say that I LOVE the atmosphere at Little Creatures Dining Hall, even though I’m not a huge fan of the establishment in general. The dim lighting looks wicked and I love the large communal tables — it makes the restaurant great for large groups. Customer Service: The waiters were friendly and fashionable — seriously. They were dressed like typical Fitzroy hipsters, but I have to respect the fashion sense. It looks damn good and I wish I could pull it off. Food: The food is fairly expensive, but the quality si just not worth it. The chips seemed a bit dry and tasteless, even with the aioli so I end up having to crack pepper on it myself. My friends ordered some oysters and I really enjoyed the rocket salad that came with it, though. We ordered pizza and that wasn’t very good either. Then ended the night with an attempt at Cinnamon Doughnuts which were overcooked and had to be gnawed through. The food is so disappointing — I have no idea why everyone adores it so much. I hope I’m just having a stroke of bad luck because with Little Creatures’ popularity, I might get dragged here again someday. And please let the chips be good next time.
