I’ve been to Seraphim on a couple of occasions now. The first time was for breakfast and the second was for lunch. On the breakfast occasion I remember being pretty impressed. On the second lunch occasion, I enjoyed certain elements of the food but was really let down by own choice off the menu. I pretty much love mushrooms and will often order them whenever I see them. I went for the ‘stuffed’ mushrooms — Stuffed Shrooms, field mushrooms stuffed with green pea & pinenut mash topped with poached eggs, watercress salad & organic toast. The mushrooms weren’t big enough to be stuffed and there were only 3 or so of them(all very small). I ate them in pretty much 3 bites(if that). The other people in my group had some better dishes and I’d like to give it another try.

With Smith Street becoming a hub for great restaurants, it is difficult to choose where to eat. One day, I wanted to try some place new for brunch. We walked by a couple of potential places, but decided on Seraphim. Seraphim is a Modern Australian restaurant that offers both tapas and large dishes. In a very open space venue furnished with modern designs, Seraphim is a cosy restaurant with great service. I’ve had both brunch and lunch here. The brunch menu was not very memorable — I do remember it being good, I just can’t remember what exactly I had. I actually prefer their lunch menu, which is perfect for sharing. We weren’t super hungry so we only ordered a few dishes. I had an amazing tomato soup served with basil and fresh mozzarella. We also shared mushrooms with prosciutto, semi-dried tomato, basil pesto, and gorgonzola($ 8) and the pork belly with lime and red wine caramel dressing($ 10). If you’re looking for a place for an extensive menu from a duck and potato terrine to a braised lamb shoulder, Seraphim has some great innovative options.

Cute little Seraphim is gonna put a smile on your face. It’s tiny, and blends some modern Aussie influence in some Asian dishes to give an amazing tapas menu. The new chef is really jazzing up this kinda sleepy end of Smith Street that is just about in full swing of its renaissance(with places like Josie Bones and Huxtable). Can’t miss: –seared scallops with lime and salsa on sprouts –roasted duck breast with cabbage, prosciutto and hazelnuts with orange sauce –roasted caramelly pork-belly on eggplant mash It’s this interesting blench of once unassociated flavours that will really tickle your tastebuds(sounds cheesy, I know, but it’s really good). All of this without breaking the bank!
