Original owners of the famous laksa king this place is absolutely amazing! Serving up a mad malaysian feed with massive portions that are definitely worth your moneys worth. OMGCANYOUSAYDELICIOUS pork dumplings pan fried YUMYUMYUM! Seriously have not been able to find a good dumpling since this place and it excites me! The other dishes are great and such generous serving especially the spring rolls it came out enough for 4 people to share to start!

Chef Lagenda beats Laksa King hands down. You can’t go wrong for quantity, quality and value for money when it comes to eating at Chef Lagenda(CL). I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes for a table at CL and I certainly have never been made to feel like I have to get out the second I’ve sucked up the last bit of my laksa soup(unlike the establishment next door). For less than $ 10 you can get a meal packed full of perfectly fresh vegetables, a good quantity of noodles and laksa soup with just the right amount spice, which could probably feed two people(but I don’t share my laksa… it’s not in my nature). The only downfall for CL is that it’s difficult to get a comfortable space for groups at dinner time, especially on weekends. Book well ahead of time to make sure you get a good spot. If there is just the two of you, then you’ll have a rather intimate experience which isn’t a terrible thing since it can get quite busy/noisy at times. Having said that, it’s a small price to pay for great food that you will become addicted to.

*Review incomplete Let’s be honest. We arrived hoping to get a table next door at Laksa King, but it was packed to the max and no one wants to wait an hour for a table for one bowl of laksa, but its a good thing it was, because we walked straight into Lagenda and bagged ourselves a huge bowl each of delicious classic curry laksa for $ 10! Food was great, service was organised chaos and the setting pleasant. A little cold inside, but nothing that the heat from the laksa couldn’t cure. Next time I’ve got a craving for Malaysian fare, I’ll be heading here.

Been here for many times and the food is always delicious! As an Asian myself, the food here taste very authentic just like back home. Tried Laksa King last week and I will definitely will not go back there. Stay true with Chef Lagenda!

Chilli Mud Crab is my kryptonite. Here at Chef Lagenda, 5 of us ordered a giant crab with noodles & roti. I recommend the noodles over the roti for this dish. Average cost was $ 25pp and we were very very full. The Chilli mud crab here is on the sweeter side and less on the spicy side. The roti with satay sauce is popular entrée between us and we licked it clean. One friend cleaned a plate of stir fry and rice on her own. She was happy. It’s quick, tasty and very well priced. We will be back.

We like to call it Laksa Queen, Laksa King’s better half ;) Often frequent this gem with groups as they conveniently take bookings(unlike their neighbour). They have a very diverse menu with something for everyone, even the mate who refers to himself as an uncultured diner. I hear good things about their laksa, and personally have enjoy their noodle dishes, roti chanai, and vegetables with tofu. They have also happily accepted requests for alterations to dishes. Lovely to grab a red milk tea with pearls, even if it’s a sneaky last minute order on the way out the door! Conveniently located makes for an easy destination for lunch or dinner. Definitely wish they accepted visa cards, but its certainly not enough of a deterrent to keep us away!

The sneaky next door option when Laksa King has a gigantic wait! Head over to Chef Lagenda, much the same, equally fabulous $ 10 curry laksa, but also with a great array of other menu options. There’s a really nice semi-outdoor undercover area upstairs, and we were able to book a big table for a group on a busy Sunday night, which was perfect! Food came out quickly and everyone enjoyed what they had! Can only speak for the chicken curry laksa myself, but it was pretty ace. Right next to the station, so easy for those needing public transport options, and a solid addition to the often overlooked Newmarket area.

No eftpos? Get with the times. Or you got something to hide from the tax department? We would visit more often if you guys had eftpos.

This place is pumping! That’s because it’s EXCELLENT and cheap. We ate dumplings and laksa and couldn’t fault either. A meal to cross town for. Theres not really much else to say!

I don’t give five stars often. It takes a lot. However I have been here many times, had many dishes and can’t fault any. Sure, service can be a bit sketchy but who cares? The wait staff are under the pump as it’s always busy. The food speaks for its self. Personal favourites are the dumplings, the soups(about ten bucks) and all the noodle dishes. No matter what you order, ask for extra chilli, ginger and garlic paste(served separate). I always ask for a double serve, coz one isn’t enough.(In the words of a wise man«Dis shit da bomb» –Mat O) It gets crazy busy here so come early or be prepared to wait and maybe seated in an awkward spot. They do offer take away and in my experience the flavour and freshness isn’t lost(provided you don’t live too far away). GETEXTRACHILLI, GINGERANDGARLICPASTE. If you don’t finish it, I’m happy to take it of your hands.

Oh Chef Lagenda, how I missed thee… This place used to be one of my regular eateries when I lived in Flemington 2 years ago. I’m so glad I had the chance to eat here again as my food did not disappoint. Scrumptious chicken roti and special fried rice that had more king prawns that you could poke a stick at! Top quality Malaysian food at affordable prices, definitely worth a visit.

Love Chef Lagenda, especially the pan fried dumplings and ten dollar soups for a mid week dinner. The chilli and ginger paste is freshly ground and is the perfect accompaniment to most dishes. Definitely ask for this!

Chef Lagenda: Flemington’s OTHER amazing Malaysian eatery. According to my man-friend, Chef Lagenda(the person, not the restaurant) was the original head of Laksa King’s kitchen but for whatever reason left and started up his(or her) own restaurant right next door! It does seem most people come here for the first time only if Laksa King is too busy, and it was the same for my man-friend. But he was so impressed with what he ate that I was dragged along the next week while softly whimpering«But I want Laksa King’s laksa… Take me to Laksa King…» Given the dead ducks hanging in the window, I figured the ginger garlic duck was the way to go(plus I didn’t want to risk a sub-par laksa). I was right — the duck was beautiful and zesty! We also had the spicy chicken which was equally delicious. Chef Lagenda had a really fun, bustling vibe just like next door, but was somewhat more intimate. The service was okay — not particularly polite but not rude, and more importantly it was fast. I’ll be back, but I’m still keeping the King as my number one Malaysian restaurant.

Chef Lagenda must have jealousy issues, sharing a wall with one of Melbourne’s most popular cheap-eat restaurants, Laksa King. For months I had walked straight past this restaurant on my way to Laksa King, never stopping to consider trying it out. Why would I? …Surely it could never compare! But when a friend of mine, who suffers from an endless list of food allergies, arranged a dinner at Chef Lagenda(due to it’s apparently more attuned ability to cater for people in her position), I went along with a sense of curiosity and a slight disappointment that I wasn’t going next door. However, I have to say that the food at Chef Lagenda proved all of my pre-conceptions wrong. I actually found most of the dishes that we ordered to be SUPERIOR to Laksa King(granted, we didn’t order Laksa). The staff were also very conscientious about my friend’s dietary needs and were really helpful in making suggestions when ordering. So if you’re a regular at Laksa King(like half of Melbourne) and haven’t yet been next door, go try Chef Lagenda! It’s similarly priced, and won’t disappoint.

I finally had the chance to dine at Chef Lagenda, Malaysian Kitchen tonight and clearly, I’ve been missing out all this time. Thankfully, we booked a table for four in advance or judging from tonight’s hungry crowd, we would not have gotten a taste. I can safely say that the Fish head curry at Chef Lagenda is the real deal. Rich, flavoursome and served piping hot on a burner so you can work your way through the curry without it getting cold. Other favourites include the duck and preserved vegetable soup, roti with curry and the sweet and sour pork ribs(which were actually pork chops). Great flavour, fresh ingredients and affordable prices make this busy restaurant a winner in my books. I wasn’t so impressed with the ice kacang and the chendol however as the ice wasn’t ground finely enough and the flavour was somehow not spot on. But besides that, it’s pretty obvious why this packed to the rafters favourite is a true Malaysian legend in Melbourne.
