Satay Ria is a killer little joint that I’ve somehow managed to overlook for far too long. The fit out is tacky and the service isn’t the best, but the food is cheap and just so good. They have a wide range of dishes but I’ve always managed to order the same few. The Hainan chicken rice is the dish is recommend to everyone going there for the first time. The chicken and spices are great and it comes with a bowl of broth on the side too. Not to mention its furiously cheap. Other favourites on the menu are the Penang Lobak — a rizty Malaysian sausage roll style dish wrapped in bean curd. The roti curry is amazing — definitely go for the beef, and I’d recommend copping a serve of greens on the side. It’s BYO and there’s a bottle shop across the road — I’d recommend a good Rosé to go with the chicken rice, but I also know next to nothing about wine so maybe don’t listen to me on that front.

Took over an hour to be served. Staff got orders wrong on multiple occasions and were in general rude to patrons. When the food came it was terrible. Anyone looking for good food or service should advoid Satay Ria

Delicious, inexpensive, always leave here happy. Get the beef rendang and roti chanai for ultimate comfort food.

I had heard lots of good things about their store at Cannon Hill(?), so when we saw this while looking for dinner at Fortitude Valley we went in with high expectations. And the expectations were met! I had a chicken laksa which was deliciously thick and«coconutty», and the wife had something along the lines of a crispy plum pork which was also quite good, although probably a bit too much flavor if you’re just having one dish — need something else to break it up. The service was friendly and quick, and a quick scan around revealed many other Malaysians/Singaporeans dining there, which can only mean that they must be quite authentic!
