With guests in town from both Queensland and the UK, we were out again for another feed to celebrate the festivities of the weekend. Overall the food was hit and miss with by far the best looking dish was the Surf and Turf with Porterhouse and Panko Crumbed Prawns. It’s a shame that I didn’t get a pic and from the report of the dish, it was really nice. I ordered the Chili Mussels and enjoyed the sauce and garlic bread that it was served with but found the mussels terribly overcooked from start to finish and they’d shrunken like a man does in cold weather. I don’t think they were small to start out with but once cooked to that level, they’re no longer enjoyable. Service was pretty good all round but we had to return a garlic bread for being burnt first up but was quickly sorted. A few found them not to be garlicky enough but it was fine for me and consistent with what you might get at most pubs. It was good to see a reasonable craft beer selection but you’d expect that in a Fremantle pub. I bought a $ 70 bottle, actually I bought 2 bottles of the Nail Clout Stout not two weeks before, with one to keep and the other to savour in a couple of years time. It was nice to see that it was on the drinks list on tap, so I sampled it and wasn’t all that impressed for the money. Albeit it got better as it came to room temperature, as you’d expect with stout but still lacked depth and character but if you don’t want to spend $ 70 to try it just to say that you have, this is the best way. The only thing I could pick on that really disturbed the 4 cars worth of people that we’d brought here was that the table tops that we were sat at were really sticky. I can only put that down to staff using water that hadn’t been emptied when it should prior to cleaning the table as we couldn’t tell that anything had been spilt but seeing the situation of the table in relation to the rest, being possibly the last to be cleaned, you could perhaps see why it happened. It seems nowadays that it’s hard to find a pub and/or restaurant that is over a 3.5 scored rating on Unilocal,so obviously some people are getting a 4 experience whilst others a 3 in general. I’d say that 3 was fair for our venture in to Clancy’s but think that it could have easily been a 4 with a couple of tweaks.

I came to Clancys in freo last Sunday as it was a beautiful summer day and it was absolutely packed out! It has just had renovations to expand though so there is a lot more seating outside and we managed to nab a table. We ordered wines and I ordered the sticky pork ribs and my friend ordered a steak sandwich. The ribs were $ 16 and when they came out it was the smallest serve of around 4 ribs I was quite surprised due to the price but they were delicious! Probably better to come here and share a few things of your looking for a cheaper lunch. I still prefer he city beach one due to the menu differences but the freo one is still good, especially since they are much larger nosh

This is a great place for families. We arrived here at 4 on a Sunday and I was glad we made it earlier than later as it got quite crowded throughout the evening. There is a big open area for kids to play outside while the adults have drinks on the patio in the back, and food for all. I tried my first sticky date pudding here and I’m in love. We are going back here!

I really like Clancy’s. It is sunny and cool in the summer and warm and cosy in the winter. sometimes when we can’t figure out what to do on a Saturday afteroon, some genius comes up with the diea of a jug of cider and a cone of wedges, sure what esle would you be doing. I have never eaten a full meal here, just dabbled at the snacks and they have always been good. If you come in the afternoon ther eis the likelihood that there will be kids running around out the back but if they aren’t too noisy leave them be.

Camilla’s right; on weekends and in the evenings, Clancy’s has a family atmosphere. If you’ve got a kid though, this is fantastic news as there’s not a lot of places in town where you can stop by for a beverage and feel comfortable with having your offspring around. Unfortunately this family-friendly atmosphere is at odds with the menu — although the food here is often delicious, I’ve always found it to be slightly overpriced, so I rarely eat here if unless it’s on somebody else’s expense account. I do, however, drink here. Extensively. They have a full bar, equipped with taps containing a wide variety of beers that will satisfy most palettes, but they also have an underrated wine list. You can get drunk here any which way you want. If you’re a smoker, head out onto the deck on the Catonment Street side and smoke the night away. They also regularly feature live music on the weekends, though it’s mostly of a blues and roots kind of flavour, which is unfortunately not really my cup of tea. It’s great to see them supporting local music though and for those whose cup of tea it is, it’s worth checking out. This is a nice enough place to come down for a drink, meet with friends and soak up some Fremantle ambiance. I’m not a huge fan of the food, but if you come down and check it out for a few drinks, there’s plenty of other dining options in the area if nothing takes your fancy(or fits into your price range).

I have been here a couple of times, once to watch a band play and the other time for dinner with my family. I enjoyed it on both occasions. The band where good but as a venue it was pretty poor, the sound was bad and it made the band look pretty amateur, because of all the feedback on stage, something that was to do with the sound man, and the speakers, rather than the band. As a restaurant I would give it a 4 stars and as a venue 1. I think that equals about two and a half but I have gone with 3 stars because the chips where delicious!

I’ve been to Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle on a number of occasions now. Originally I really enjoyed going there. The place had a relaxed vibe and staff were always super friendly. The last couple of times I’ve been there though, I’ve noticed the atmosphere has changed completely. Once I used to feel comfortable bringing a group of friends and sitting outside over a few drinks(the mulled wine they serve in winter is the best!), but now the place is more of a family joint. Which is convenient for those wanting somewhere to bring the kids and relax over a beer or two, but not so good for Fremantle’s younger crowd. Last time I was there was on a Monday night at their monthly open mic poetry event. My friend and I were asked to move three times to accommodate those with prams, so we gave up and went to the Norfolk. I’d recommend the place for a slightly older crowd looking for somewhere cruisy, but if you’re under 25 maybe give it a miss.
