I’ve been slowly attempting to learn French over the last year, and Le Forum has proved to be an invaluable resource. Carrying books, magazines and pretty much anything you might want to read in French, this is a great place not only to find things to read at your level of fluency, but also to inspire you to keep learning. I have a son who finds it endlessly amusing when I speak in French, so my favourite thing to buy here is children’s books. «La Chenille Qui Fait Des Trous»(aka The Very Hungry Caterpillar) has been my favourite so far, particularly as my son is so familiar with it, he has a good idea of what each page is actually about without my explaining. The staff here are fluent in French and English and very helpful. If you are just starting out with learning, they will be able to point you in the direction of an appropriate language kit or classes; I’d probably suggest the cheaper and more fun option is interactive online subscription services like Babbel and Rosetta Stone than these old-fashioned hard copies. We’re very lucky to have such a great bookstore in Fremantle. If you speak the language, be sure to check it out.
