I love Asian food, both eating and cooking, so I take every opportunity I get to stock up on interesting new ingredients. Fremantle Mini Mart is a great place to do this, with a wonderful range of spices, pickles and chutneys and other things of whose use I am uncertain. It’s a good place to get massive sacks of rice, with lots of different types, all at very good prices. Also, I found lychees here — I am totally in love with lychees, and they seem tragically hard to come by, so any place where I can get them is definitely one of my faves.

Lord knows I love me an Asian Grocer. You think you’ve encountered every food known to mankind, then BAM! There’s a can of jack fruit(similiar to mango but chewier, FYI). SNAP! There’s some shrimp chips(pass). SHAZAAM! What on earth is an egg tart(ew)? It’s like a culinary adventure! I kind of like just going in and perusing their shelves for some unexpected and exotic delicacies. I never leave empty handed, and my wallet escapes a beating because food is always cheap. Mini Mart is Fremantle’s Asian Grocer. If you’re after coconut oil, you’ll find it here reallllllllly cheaply. They also have soy cheese which you won’t have to mortgage your house for, tempeh, tofu, beans and nuts in bulk, spices and canned things you’ve never seen the likes of. All very exotic, all very affordable, and some slightly brow-furrowing. Give it a go if you’re ready to expand your gastronomic horizons.
