If there wasn’t already a café named yocal, I’d probably pinch the idea. Despite hick and hillbilly connotations, it’s got such a friendly ring to it… the local-est of locals, so to speak. We’ve been to Yocal a handful of times over the past 18 months, mostly for breakfast and coffees. The converted house has been beautifully renovated into an accessible, multi-roomed café with a long alfresco verandah and seated garden area, perfect for lazy brunches or afternoons in the sun. Depending upon the time of year that you visit, Yocal will probably be populated with bather-clad locals and tourists alike. The ‘Fremantle doctor’(breeze, for those who aren’t Perth locals) blows through beautifully from nearby South Tce(the main café strip), adding to a pleasant experience. Service at Yocal is pretty fast and attentive, despite relaxed Fremantle vibes. The coffee is good, as is the food which again skirts a fun line between healthy and indulgent. The chef at Yocal channels more of a ‘healthy whole food’ vibe rather than offering plenty of vegan options, however there are plant milk options, plenty of dairy-free plant based salads and vegetarian dishes for those who require them. There are also lotssss of deliciously sticky cakes… My favourite menu item? Probably the breakfast bruschetta with crisp-fried halloumi, followed by the previously heavenly mixed mushrooms on toasted sourdough(not sure if that’s still a menu item, soz). Their banana smoothies are also creamy heaven in a cup.

Dropped in for a quick takeaway coffee, haven’t been there for a while and am pleased to say it was as good as I remember. Great fast service, friendly staff and most importantly fantastic coffee. Will be back this weekend for breakfast.

This is the best Café, possibly in the whole world. It has delicious food, including awesome home made cakes, and coffee ready to go out of a side window. It has lush greenery and equally lush green smoothies in a variety of flavours. Best of all it has the kindest, loveliest wait staff in the world. In particular Leah, who is amaze balls.

Having the Potato Latke at Yocal is almost a weekend tradition for me. After eating foods such as spinach, and poached eggs, I know I’m completely sustained with highly nutritional foods to get me through the entire day. Above all, it’s delicious!

The coffee was great .I do think they need to explore the pure harvest brands of milk options as it’s my absolute favourite brand. I have ordered the zucchini ribbon with poached chicken. This was very good and almost as good as the one I make at home ;-). I love the menu options at Yocal and the prices are very reasonable.

A great spot for a catch-up with lots of nooks and corners to have a conversation over great coffee. I only wish they were open later — there’s a lack of cafes open in the afternoons.

Super friendly staff, Leah, the girls and boys in the kitchen and the café. Lovely conversion of the old house inside and out. Lots of lovely plants, herbs and all. Enjoyed brekky and lunch many times and the coffee is super good. Reasonable prices, good food and drinks — you can’t ask for better.

seldom is there a time where I have paid $ 4 for a soy latte, I was pleasantly surprised at yocal’s reasonable pricing and selection of gluten free and healthy options! Not to mention the absolutely lovely atmosphere and staff. The setting is absolutely beautiful, I sat outside under a rainbow umbrella and it was gorgeous, lots of plants and greenery around giving it a nice and relaxing vibe. Yocal is my new favourite coffee spot in Freo!

It couldn’t get any more hip than this! Yocal is bursting with hippy vibes and vibrant colours! Chanced upon this café while happily meandering along the chilly streets of Fremantle. Owner is super friendly and the Persian love cake is simply delightful. Worth a stop here if you’re in the vicinity.

I loved it here! I’ve walked past here a few times with my friends and wanted to try it but never had the time to so one day a group of us went in to try it for lunch :) It’s absolutely beautiful! The outdoor area is so cute(good for photos too hahah) Nice colours and scenery :) The staff were very nice and helpful :) I ordered some sort of beef burger I think I can’t remember what it was called and it was amazing! I want it again! And the potato frites are so good! Can’t wait to go back soon :)

Just came away from Yocal with a truly satisfied delish feeling, both from the food and the atmosphere. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I had to wait in the que to order my cake after having had a yummy leek and mushroom tart with salad and a really good coffee. I went with my girlfriends but would be happy to take children and oldies there as well. Thanks to the owners for the revitalising of an old Freo house into something worth enjoying. BTW try the Persian love cake. It’s worth the wait.

What a great lunch experience! My first time at Yocal is certainly not the last. Everything has been a delight. The staff acknowledged us with a hello and a smile(I know: it should be the case everywhere but sadly…) we got a great spot in their cosy patio with a great at atmosphere. The mushroom and leek tart was super tasty, just a bit small for a lunch but you kind of expect this for $ 11 the Moroccan chicken was perfect size and delicious with the right amount of spices. And we got another smile and a goodbye from all the staff on our way out. My stomach and my mind were really satisfied after this Yocal visit!

Veranda beautiful in the Perth winter sun! We were lucky to enjoy some quiet time with the parents here during a normal working day. The food was excellent, they serve light meals and there is a good variety, the service friendly and the coffee is great! Coffee may actually be the cheapest in town! The garden is so lovely, it is almost like being in someone’s backyard.

This place is excellent for breakfast. All our food was fresh, tasty, and the service was great. The coffee is also very good here. We both had perfectly cooked eggs, toast, and bacon.

I am struggling with the grade here. Coffee was good, place is very cheerful and service is nice, but. the food is interesting, but could be better. I am on a bagel tasting quest and my bagel was close to burned from outside, soaked in inside and that kind of ruined the overall good taste. Brownie though was delicios. So 4 stars for now, but barely

THREEDOLLARCOFFEE! I went to this gorgeous café for a pre-work breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. A bright and gorgeous old home converted into a café in the heart of Freo. The inside had heaps of room, but we sat outside in the sunshine on brightly coloured furniture looking up at flowers that covered the wall. Despite it being so central, Yocal lacked the overpriced pretentiousness that so many Fremantle cafes boast. If Yocal can do a delicious $ 3 coffee, why can’t all local cafes? The breakfast menu was small, but had a variety of fresh options that left you staring at the menu wondering which would be the best choice. The staff were friendly and efficient, I will defiantly be going back soon!

Yocal only opened up 6 weeks ago. It’s got a wonderful homely neighborhood vibe. The building, which must have once been a house has a gorgeous verandah where you can look out over the street and people watch. There’s also seating inside and a little courtyard on the left side of the building. They’ve done a great job of decorating the building, all white walls, with colourful chandeliers. Creepers with bright purple flowers climb the white pillars on the verandah. The lunch menu was very limited, but hopefully as they have just opened more will be available soon. Loved that they sold coconut water, two varieties at that! Free Wi-Fi and a super chilled environment will definitely see me back at Yocal again, probably not on a warm day though as they didn’t seem to have any air-con, or perhaps it is because the pretty building has so many open doors.

Nothing beats enjoying a great coffee in the alfresco area out the back. Amazingly friendly staff.
