After taking a stroll along the beautiful waterfront we enjoyed our lunch at this café. The building with plenty of outdoors tables and several rooms inside with numerous open windows to catch the breeze from the outside makes it a welcoming stop for early afternoon walkers. The art work matches the architecture giving a bit of nostalgic vibe of bygone era. The food was fantastic with simple but delicious avocado sandwich with spicy tomato, feta cheese and sauce taking the top prize. Barramundi fillet was very well done as well. Service was good, attentive but at the same time relaxed. If you are in a rush go to Starbucks instead but if you just want to relax, enjoy the views and the food stop by at this café and kick back for an hour. Bön Appetite.

Visited for brunch on a Sunday morning as a table of 7. There is a «table service» sign out front but don’t let this fool you. This is «wave down a waitress» service and even then all of the staff say«I’ll be right with you» and then you need to wave down another one when you give up waiting.(Please note that I am ex-long-term-hospitality so I do this kindly) Coffees took a long time and 2⁄6 came out incorrect. The menu is a little confusing and there isn’t a «big breakfast» option and you need to order eggs & toast and then add sides at $ 3-$ 4 each. But the options for sides doesn’t even included extra eggs or baked beans? When our meals came out my baked beans and toast came out without toast, I did however have a portion of butter? I gave up trying to flag someone down and another person on my table generously surrendered one of their slices to me. But I guess I should have been thankful I even got part of my order as another member of our party had her order missed completely and when she finally managed to get someone’s attention she seemed clueless as to what could possibly be wrong.(This was the same waitress who took our order) Then she finally clicked and realised everyone else was eating and went to check with the kitchen. She returned holding her order pad saying«what was it that you had ordered?» turns out her order hadn’t even made it to the kitchen. A few minutes later, when the rest of us had practically finished, her order finally arrived. There was no «I’m so sorry» or «can I get you another coffee while you wait» or any real form of acknowledgement of error. The only reason this isn’t a 1 star was because the food itself was actually really good. Soft poached eggs, perfectly ripe avocado, house made flavoursome beans. The other nice thing about this place is the actual vibe of it — cottage house right on the water, dogs are welcome(at outdoor tables) so if you can handle the crappy service(or perhaps are in a smaller group?) go for it!

Super sunny spot to while the morning away. Dog and kid friendly, nice and quiet during the week, super crazy busy on the weekend. Lots of grass though to laze out on if no tables are available. Can be difficult to get a car park close by, but it’s a nice bike ride or walk if you’ve parked further away. Beautiful view over the water and a good playground a 5 – 10 minute walk away.

I have mixed feelings about this café. On the one hand, it was an amazing view of the ANZAC bridge and Blackwattle Bay from a gorgeous heritage property. They serve great food and the waiters/waitresses are reasonably friendly and quick. On the other hand, at the right time of day this place is more of a dog park than a café. If you have allergies, be warned. Since I’ve eaten here for breakfast and lunch on a number of occasions I’ve been able try a couple different things on the menu. Their baked beans are on the earthier side with plenty of other veggies and some really good bread. I also recommend the banana & walnut loaf; the ricotta and jam and very sweet so its a big sugary breakfast if you like that. The eggs seem a bit pricey for me. For lunch the open sandwich of avocado, feta & spicy tomato sauce is a delight. Sounds simple but they nail it.

We came with a group of people to lunch and found service to be a little slow for eight, but it was just after it opened so they could have improved since. Still, the service was friendly and the food was decent. Most importantly, coffee was OK. The views are terrific, out across the bay.

Set in a sweet little federation cottage in the heart of Black Wattle Bay, Black Wattle Café serves excellent modern Australian food. It’s in a great location — treat it as a reward after a walk on the weekend, or after a bit of shopping at the nearby fish markets. Be warned, though, on the weekends it gets very busy as lots of people have the same idea to come here. Nevertheless, it’s worth braving the crowds on the weekends, or if you get a chance to visit during the week for lunch/brunch or breakfast. Breakfast consists of traditional yet delicious dishes such as banana and walnut bread with ricotta, fruit salad and sheep’s milk yoghurt, muesli, toast or eggs with avocado/bacon/mushroom/smoked trout. For lunch, a main meal costs around $ 18 — well worth it for the marvellous selection of top quality sandwiches, wraps, salads and more substantial dishes. If you can fit it in, I highly recommend finishing your thoroughly Australian meal with a slice of Frozen Chocolate Wagon Wheel — a true Australian institution. The service is friendly and efficient(especially considering how busy they get) and their popularity is well deserved. Delicious, relaxed and fun.

Blackwattle Café has one of the best locations in Sydney’s Inner West. Sadly, that’s all it’s got. With stunning views of Blackwattle Bay and Rozelle Bay, Blackwattle Café is a nice place to end up after a walk along the water from Bicentennial Park. The building itself is beautiful and only adds to the beauty of your surroundings whilst sitting at a sun drenched table by the water. Pram and dog-friendly, the café’s al fresco area provides running room for curious toddlers, heaps of places to tie your dog and water bowls scattered around every shady spot(for the dogs, not the toddlers). Unfortunately, despite all its potential, the café really lags. The coffee and breakfast food(I’m yet to try their lunch menu) just aren’t up to standard, and when you know you can get better elsewhere, the reasons to go there tend to dwindle. So, if you’re looking for a sunny seaside spot to make you appreciate the beauty of Sydney, then tea and cake at Blackwattle Café is perfect. If, however, it’s a decent breakfast with a yummy coffee you’re looking for, then I’m afraid you’ll have to go elsewhere.
