I work Afternoon Shift and finish around 11pm. The boys found this place a few years ago and have been going ever since. Up to 10 of us arrive and then order 8 – 10 mains(including a Full Duck!!) and proceed to ho in. Don’t be dissuaded by the 70’s style façade as once you are inside, it becomes a food palace and the meals get better each time you visit! Yes, the staff can be a bit abrupt but it is the food we go there for. Royce the owner knows us now and always comes over to say Hi. Food is great(salt & pepper calamari is a must) and we can get a quiet beer and have a laugh and big feed at a great price.

I have rocked up at this place many times after finishing work late because a) I know it will be open and b) their food is nice and cheap. I have never eaten in, but their takeaway does the job. I always wonder about their meat selections, though I have never been game enough to try any of them, but on Irene’s recc I just might!

This has been on the Kingsway strip for as long as I can remember. It’s one of the original restaurants of Glen Waverley. This place is an old brick building with two round large windows on either side of the door. As soon as you walk in, there are ducks, chickens, sausages and pork hanging behind glass, where a man is constantly butchering pieces for take away orders. I think this is one of the best aspects about Rock Kung, their take away meats. The sweet sausage from here is one of my favorites-all I need is a bowl of rice, a few slices of this sausage and I’m good to go. It’s not the regular Chinese sausage that you can buy from specialty stores; this is a thick and tender ‘homemade’ dish, which is only sold by a handful of Asian restaurants these days. If you are planning on buying their meats, best try to get in early. Come 7 o’clock-ish certain meats(such as the sausages) have already sold out. Dinner wise this place does its job. It’s cheap, fast and tasty. Its also open till 3am, so for all you party animals or late night workers that want a decent feed in the wee hours. Here’s your best bet.

You’ve had a big Saturday night at the Mountain View and you’ve got a serious case of the munchies. You can’t bring yourself to have Maccas, and you want something a bit more substantial. That’s generally where my experience of Rock Kung begins. The food is pretty good, and apparently the crabs are something of a speciality. If I’ve got a few mates with me, we’ll generally grab half a roast duck and a few other bits and pieces, and we’ll generally feel pretty full and well fed by the time we leave. Don’t go with high expectations of service and décor. You’ll be disappointed. Even during normal hours, there are plenty of stories of bad treatment of customers, and I’ve seen and experienced this myself on occasion. You’ve been forewarned.
