This was… not a good experience. I’ve never had to wait 45 minutes for fish and chips before. Don’t they just go in the deep fryer? Nobody ever came to update us or apologise… I had to go up to the counter three times before I got my food. By the time we got this plate, the rest of the food(which arrived at the same time) was cold. The lettuce in the salad was wilty. The other food was ok but not spectacular. In particular, the crusty bread used for the fish burger was a poor choice, it crumbles all over the place and makes the burger hard to eat. Water cups were not that clean, and I’m not a big fan of fighting with people for seating. It’s a super busy place with an open patio, but then you have to line up at the counter to order, so there is lots of potential for conflict(«That’s my table! I saw it first!» This actually happened to us). Yes, the view is magnificent. But so what. I’d rather get takeaway and take it down to the beach or a bench on the boardwalk. Don’t forget to throw your rubbish in the bin, though.

Stellar position, but the menu is crappy and reminiscent of the nineties, but true to the period, so are the prices, which keeps the silvertops coming. Good for a bowl of chips and a milkshake in the sun.

Food is served promptly and is very filling and flavour filled, however there are a few basics in food preparation that seem to be missed, such as the scrambled egg being put on the toast before it is buttered so that all the egg needs to be scraped off or the tea bags not being in the pot the moment the water comes to boil. First world problems aside, the broadway staff are friendly and the meals are huge proportions which are very enjoyable and filling. Minus the crazy outside electronic toilets that can often be gross from misuse, the broadway is an enjoyable place to eat.

Great for a Saturday/Sunday Brunch, in fact any time, any day — the sunshine and views are great, food is honest, simple café fare, coffee is good and they’re dog friendly. Whats not to like! Chill for a while and watch the walkers, cyclists and joggers go by.

I have found the perfect place on a hot summers yet overcast sort of day to write for Unilocal, but I need to check my receipt for the name as signage in this premises is kept to a stand still…*wait for it*… Broadway Kiosk! And here I am. I know this spot is a favorite with my parents and I see why. Views of Glenelg foreshore, the jetty and the esplanade remain to my right. Then more traditional beach scenes straight ahead, equipped with crashing waves. Their breakfast selections are probably the best way to go, whether it be bacon and eggs or simple a croissant. They also provide all round selections for lunch, including an $ 8 Kids menu, ice cream and an ok coffee. Personally I am quite happy with just my skinny latte and two bottles of water whilst admiring the currently minty sea. The décor is pretty plain but it works, especially with the ocean background and large open windows situated all around the narrow frame of the kiosk. There is also outdoor seating available, however much of the indoor seating is presented in a way where a refreshing breeze works its way in. Heaters are also installed here, which is perfect for those who enjoy a more stormy beach venture in the winter. There are also pretty decent public toilets right outside, that could have their own personal review… they talk! So, so smart. Well, blew my mind. Warning: Gets beachy stinky at the worst of times.

The Broadway Kiosk is the Bay’s best ‘not so kept’ secret with the most amazing location that is not swamped by the foot traffic from Jetty Rd. It is open for breakfast and lunch and is very popular with ‘girl dates’, and early morning cyclists and walkers. Broadway is very popular with the dog population of Adelaide and offers water bowls and plenty of outdoor seating for the canine family and their owners. The service is pretty good, considering some mornings are completely full which always tests the service strength of any café or restaurant. Their food has a home cooked sort of style and they do a great range of ‘doorstop’ type sandwich things with traditional or more gourmet toppings if you are feeling fancy. It is 2 minute walk to Jetty Rd, so you can still be amongst it without being trampled by the 1000 fifteen year old teenagers that invade the places on a hot summer’s day.

The 3 stars are for the view and the location. It’s right on the beachfront at Somerton Park and always has a crowd of people, waiting animals with their tongues lolling out and cycles leaning against walls nearby. It attracts a big crowd but I never eat or drink here, I just wait for my bestie to grab her take-away coffee while I watch the baby. They used to do great brekkies, but I’ve given up on the food and service now. It’s somewhat of a madhouse. Last time I was here we were unable to exit due to a massive line on the left and a commerical size oven blocking the door on the right(surely kitchen renos can be left until after hours?). In a nutshell — can anyone say fire hazard?

I love this little gem in Glenelg, as it’s located way off the main strip of Jetty Road, isn’t packed with 14 year olds, has good food and you pretty much have your ken private beach. Oh and parking is a FREE breeze! There is outdoor seating with umbrellas and indoor as well. The food is daily nice, usually I get a doorstop, which is like an open pizza sub thing, and a cold drink. It’s much more peaceful here, less hectic but still on the same extended stretch of beautiful beach. The beach area is much smaller than around the jetty, with rocks lining the path bit, but where is much less people and action so it’s very quiet and secluded. You can almost have your own alcove on the beach between the rocks.

The best thing about this café is its location, its such a shame it doesn’t deliver in terms of service and fare. The café was rebuilt a few years ago and I think the original, slightly daggy building was much better. Trent, who heads up the team is a shining light at the café, along with the recently acquired Angela; other that that there is a stream of young staff that come and go and don’t have a clue. The food has been inconsistent over the years and currently is not great. I wouldn’t recommend breakfast which seems to be the worst, however, some of their pre made food is good. The selection of cakes is mouthwatering and redeeming. The coffee is woeful but they do make a good iced coffee. Tip: Good for tea and cake but not breakfast. The view is one of the best in Adelaide so it is still worth a visit.
