I have to review the Payneham Bowling Club, and I have to say I’m a fan, because they make me a Bingo Widower every Monday. :) Yes, once a week my wife goes and hangs out with her senior friends, and has a thorough relax whilst counting all the ducks, all the fat ladies, and eleven legs. I played bingo quite a lot in spain when I was young — it was like a holiday ritual back then — and I expect like most I’ll end up playing again when I’m closer to the grave, but for now I’m happy that she gets considerable pleasure from such a simple pursuit. Bingo is at 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Monday nights.

When I was about 15 my Daddy dear was a member of the Payneham Bowling Club. Back then there was smoking inside the club, the bar man hated serving the female players and the greens were… well…grass! Everything has changed! The home of the Payneham Panthers, on Payneham Road, the club has become one of the consistent contenders of the Premier One Division of Lawn Bowls, though they have seen some changes in player talent over the past year. The biggest change the club has seen lately is the brand spanking new synthetic greens, quite litterally the newest in the state! I haven’t played on them as of yet, but they usually take around 6 months to settle. The club has three greens, ample bar and hall space and parking in the rear. Nightowls is run a couple of times a week, and is SUPER popular, so get your team in early! The new tracks mean that the club will probably keep bowling all through the Winter months, so if you are keen for a roll and want to brave the cold, then jump on board. Personally I am a fine weather player(when I can help it).
