Browsing On James

This is one of the only modern décor shops on the James street strip. The decorator items are quite pretty and feminine, we’re talking lace table clothes, crockery, girly mirrors and wooden word cut outs of ‘bon appetit’ and ‘baby’. They do have a really nice selection of large scented candles in glass jars.
There is a small selection of designer casual gear.
There is a small store room like room stacked with more things like clocks, more crockery, recipe book holders and assorted tins, jars and candle holders.
This isn’t my style really but anyone looking for a gift for a traditional styled woman or if your own style is mainly white and pastel pretty things then this is your store.

At first glance you’d think Browsing On James is another little antique shop with the vintage doors sitting along the stairs, rustic chairs and cast iron furniture out the front but when you walk in you get more of a modern take on the vintage vibe. They have dainty white vintage inspired furniture, pretty modern lamps, shelves filled with delicious scented candles, pretty diaries and everything else you’d expect to find in a gift and homewares store.
A little addition that I thought was absolutely lovely and that I’ve seen in many of the boutiques along James Street, is a narrow corridor filled colourful flowers (fake of course) and with everything you need to make your garden charming and pretty; from cute pots to garden decoration and everything in between.

Browsing on James is a cute shabby chic store with lots of charming items. I love little containers, and this store is filled with them. Containers for your sugar, spices, laundry detergent, doggy treats, bathroom items… you name it, they have it. They also have lots of beautiful but fake hydrangeas flowers, which add a nice pop of color and «life» to your house, without the fear of killing another plant. If you’re looking to charm up your kitchen, they have cute cupcake holders, 3-​tier cake stands, and pretty cake wrapping paper. An adorable store with lots of housewares and gift items.

As far as gift shops go, Browsing on James doesn’t have that much to recommend itself. Its gifts are on the whole unoriginal, frumpy and grannyish. Like every other gift shop, it sells scented candles, but at least they’re Yankee Candles, which are superior to most in yumminess of fragrance. Beyond the bland main room is a smaller, dimly lit room which holds more promise. It’s full of ornamental pot plants, decorative tins and other trinkets, some of which are quite nice. The shop is full of severe signs saying things like ‘breakages must be paid for’ and ‘do not ask for discount as refusal may offend’ — not particularly welcoming. It is, on the whole, inoffensive, but there are definitely a lot of better places to go for gifts.
