Gosh what a fantastic and wonderful place! It isn’t too often that you walk into a place and find many items that you want to take back home. At stories on the wall you will find unique pieces, colourful and creative. Functional. Heavy solid wood. Brighten a dark room or maybe tone down a ‘too white’ room. Located on the main antique strip in Guildford. Across from the train station. Also there is a bigger show room down the road, be sure to stop past.

My future dining table lives here. I will own you one day my pretty! A lot of the furniture in store is made from up-cycled wood from old Indonesian ships. The dark heavy wood and the remnants of bright paints from their previous life make for pretty wonderful furniture. They’ll custom make you almost anything with the wood.

I really enjoyed my time in this store. The man who was working there was very friendly and walked around the store with me pointing things out. I adore their furniture, it is unique but in saying that it was the only furniture on display. They have recycled the wood from old ships, sanded it back to get the distressed look and also to reveal any other coats of paints underneath. This puts together a charming look on a range of dressers, tables and even coat/key hooks. There was one chest of drawers that had marks from where barnacles past had attached themselves. This space also displays artworks by local ish artists. Their main artist was Bonnie Atlen, I think that is her last name, she paints flowers and has traveled and spent a lot of her time between America and England. She is very talented but her themes weren’t for me. There were a few abstract paintings and two or so expressionist, but the rest were painterly floral themes which are very wall worthy. This store sells both prints and originals.

I fell in love with the furniture in Stories On The Wall. They create furniture from pieces of old boats. The end results are these unique, rustic, and colored pieces of furniture that blends art with household necessity. In the middle of the store, they have a giant table fit for a group of 10, which would look perfect outside in a garden for a garden party. They have dressers and end tables, chairs and desks, all in this beautiful boho art style. If there is a piece of furniture you want, you can even commission them to build it for you. I would love to have one of their pieces in my house. In addition to the furniture, they have an assortment of original art created by local artists.

Stories on the Wall is an art and furniture gallery whose slogan, ‘Time for colour’, brings to mind a wacky, psychedelic and almost unbearably vibrant interior aesthetic. However, this is not the case; the furniture on show is made of rustic-looking wood painted in bands of muted, distressed colour. It reminds me of multi-coloured driftwood, and is both striking and tasteful. Also displayed are canvases by several different artists, all with a bold, contemporary feel. Everything’s for sale, and prices are lower than I’d expect them to be. I’d love to own a piece of furniture from here, but until I have a house of my own I can content myself with browsing it as a gallery space.
