We were actually recommended to visit here by the main flagship Masuya restaurant when they first opened and finally found time to find this place. It’s a great cheaper alternative to Masuya with the same quality and similar dishes. This is for a more casual crowd and not as booking essential. It’s in a prime location so they must be doing well… Our only expectations were that this offshoot would be the same quality caliber to the main restaurant and it came very close! Enough to return at least. Whilst the inside décor was average but clean, it was very open, fairly loud and busy. The menu was more lunch catered and smaller pre-selection dishes but you can still choose your own nigiri sushi or mix and match upon request. There’s a lot more sushi rolls, sashimi, bbq, bentos and other izakaya style dishes to try. Much less formal dining but still delicious. We weren’t disappointed by food quality that’s for sure. The only issue is they took our drink order first but served it last after all the food was brought out. Unfortunately I choose badly with the drinks this time, it was some lychee horror which literally stated on the menu the ingredient«sugar». And you could taste it, for sure. All in all it was a nice quality cheaper sushi option for some casual Japanese.

This place used to be called Musashi but they converted to the lower priced version of masuya in recent years. We sneaked in just before the pre-theatre crowd stampeded into the restaurant. So do make a reservation if you want to get a seat on nights when the Capitol theatre is playing. We were in a hurry to make our show so we ordered some simple dishes like sushi and sashimi. The seafood was really fresh, as expected from a top notch Japanese restaurant. We were a little disappointed with the dragon roll — there was just not enough softshell crab in the roll to justify the name! On the bright side, the aburi salmon was to die for! It was perfectly seared and the garnish made it extra yummy! We downed it so quickly that I didn’t even have time to take a photo of it. We were really happy with the service here. Our food got delivered really quickly and they understood the show times at the theatre so we got prioritised. They had a nice selection of sake and the waiter was very helpful in picking the best matching sake for our dishes. Great place for preshow dinner — but make sure you tell the waiter so!
