Java Queen

How to describe Java Queen? It doesn’t quite fit the fine dining mould, nor is it pub food. It’s an unpretentious little restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine at very reasonable prices. Its servings are generous, like you’d expect from a pub, but the menu aspires to something classier and more complex. The result? Huge meals that are tasty and filling but not mind-​blowing.
The same could be said for the overall dining experience at Java Queen. I was a little confused as to the kind of ambiance they were trying to create. A live guitarist playing gentle background music contributed nicely to the atmosphere. A TV screen showing a constant under-​the-​sea scene, however, was a little perplexing.
If I returned, I would simply go with adjusted expectations. With BYO and a huge main meal for around $ 24, you could definitely do worse. And the menu is enticing and diverse enough that you could go back multiple times to try different things.
