Holy marinated pork chops! This butcher is bringing you 101 ways too eat meat, and I like it. Chicken rolls, meatballs, roasts, rissoles. It‘s been a while since I’ve seen a butcher so well stocked with prepared meals. No excuses for having no dinner inspiration. All this on top of great cuts of meat for you to do with what you please. A blank meat canvas if you will.

I rarely buy any pre-prepared meats. Beef Wellingtons or chicken Kievs that are ready to go, for example, or anything that has been marinated without my having marinated it. But Five Star Meats’ New Orleans steak was simply too intriguing to pass up. I have been to New Orleans and loved the food there: the city’s cuisine is a sea of riches with many tributaries, from Creole to Cajun, and I was interested in seeing which of these had somehow managed to wash over a steak in Perth’s northern suburbs.(It was the Cajun one, as it happened.) There’s more on offer than New Orleans steak, however, and the influences come from all over the place. Teriyaki chicken and Southern-style pork ribs. Thai beef stir-fry and beef and Guinness pie. Not all of the selection is pre-prepared, of course, and there are some good-sized T-bones and other cuts available. The sausage range is particularly impressive, with various meats and styles on offer. The chickens practically fly out of the rotisserie and I was impressed to note the availability of rabbit. The staff are more than willing to talk through the range and it is clear that they know what they’re on about when they do.
