What this place really has going for it is the service. Friendly, sincere, attentive. Owner, Mohamed Bartaouch, did a good job of playing host. Checking in on everybody from time to time. Facilitating banter. He’s a gun at what he does. But the food. We started with the lamb backstrap entrée. The lamb was flavoursome, well seasoned(very well — the spice mix was subtle and interesting), and tender. Served with cous cous and what could best be described as lots of red onion. The entrée was quite good. For main we shared the saffron chicken tagine, a beetroot salad, and khobz to soak up all the sauce. The tagine was lackluster. One fillet of chicken(for $ 29) littered with olives and preserved lemon in a small puddle of very bland sauce. The salad was, again, mostly red onion, and a small serve of beetroot and leaves. It tasted fine but wasn’t worth the $ 16 price tag. The wine list is weirdly short. Several options from two wineries I have never heard of? That said, the 3Witches Shizaz that I selected was quite good. You can probably see a theme in my comments above. Price. I am willing to pay good money for good food. However, I felt a bit betrayed by my Marrakesh experience. The value wasn’t there…

With a shop face that hides the elegance within, Marrackech restaurant was definitely a Moroccan surprise! Located on King William Road this small restaurant offers wonderfully aromatic food with enthusiastic and warm service. The restaurant is quite small and only holds around forty people. When dining here I would suggest making a booking. I almost learnt the hard way dining here on a Sunday night, thinking that it would be a reasonably quite night the only tables that were available were outside. One of the highlights of the night was the hospitality of the owner and chef, Mohammed. We started with the Mezza Platter, the chefs selection of five entrées which seemed like the best bet for a taste of of everything from the dips and the chicken, lamb and beef entrées. I was originally quite surprised at how expensive the entrées were individually which also helped with my decision to go for the Mezza Platter. After the first course I must say, you get what you pay for, by the time we had finished the first course and the quick tasting I was nearly full! The main courses average around thirty dollars a dish which seemed quite expensive, however, as the meals come out in the wonderfully traditional Tangine dishes and are therefore quite large. The service here is quite muddled, we found ourselves being forgotten and going up to the counter to remind and ask the wait staff for things. This was quickly forgotten as the apologies flowed in and when we did have service it was warm. The drinks ordered for the night were average until I had the marroccan coffee! The gin and tonic I was served was horrible, I am quite sure the tonic was flat and there was no garnish to go with it which was disappointing. *relishthegoodthymes

Moroccan food is… delicious. Tasty. Sweet. Savoury. Warm wintery rainbows in a tagine. All at once. Can you imagine such a thing? So, I really enjoyed the food at this place. We had the almond & date lamb and the meatballs with egg tagine for mains with a spicy chickpea/lentil soup with goats cheese filled bread for entrée. Perfect for winter. The restaurant itself is small but really cosy — we were sitting in the outside area(a thin, covered strip alongside the building) which was a bit squishy but not uncomfortable. Much like in the other reviews, the owner came out and spoke to us about the food with such a passion and excitement that obviously has no intention of slowing. Its a nice thing that you don’t get very often & it was wonderful — however also the reason this place lost a star — a little bit over serviced. ISTHATEVEN A THING?!! WHATKINDOFFIRSTWORLDPROBLEMMADNESSISTHIS?! my goodness, I make myself sick. We found that we had people at our table so often, just even trying to top up our water that I kept sculling my water so they didn’t seem so disappointed that they couldn’t do anything to help us. They were absolutely great, I occasionally just felt that we spent more of the dinner politely chatting to staff than spending it with my partner. But we loved the experience, loved the food & loved the space. Book first! :)

Wow, yum! Even their Morrocan coffee was a treat. Great food, excellent service by the friendly staff, lovely ambience. We sat outside in the narrow courtyard which made us feel like we could have been in Marrakech! The buzz from inside the full restaurant was testimony that everyone was enjoying their evening. The waiter who took our order was so passionate about the food, it was very refreshing to have someone serve you who knew and loved the food they would deliver to your table. Will be back!

A real treat. Lovely intimate atmosphere, excellent service, and most importantly, every dish was delicious. We ordered the banquet with three tagging dishes for the main(chicken, lamb and seafood) and no-one at the table could settle on which one was their favourite, they are all incredibly flavourful and delicious. I wasn’t sure about the idea of a dessert cous cous, but it turned it to be really tasty. We will definitely be coming back to Marrakech.

The food is lovely, the atmosphere relaxing, the waiting staff friendly… but what really makes this place deserving of five stars is the owner Mohammed. What a hoot! From the moment we arrived we felt like we were catching up with an old friend we hadn’t seen for a while. ‘Make yourselves comfortable like it is home’ he said. We were lucky enough to be surrounded with cushions so that part was fairly easy. If you are not sure of what to order(or even if you think you are) not to fear, Mohammed will not hesitate, with the politeness and care of and old friend or dear cousin, to give you some sound advice on what lovely nosh will satisfy your tastebuds. Mohammed may join you at your table for a quick chat or just to make sure you are delighted with all that his restaurant has to offer. So relax, note the interactions surrounding you — laughter is sure to be part of the experience — and allow yourself to be hosted. I suggest you try the mint tea at the end of your meal… it’s both entertaining as well as refreshing. The perfect end to the night was Mohammed walking us outside, sprinkling our hands with rose water and graciously bidding us a good night. A fabulous and memorable night! Of course, after such an experience, you want to return… and that’s what ensures Marrakech is consistently booked out.

Probably one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in Adelaide. From the moment you walk through the front doors you are greeted with the smell of exotic spices, and the staff are some of the friendliest in the business. The owner, mohammed, makes an effort to talk to every person in the restaurant and make them feel as if he was cooking for them personally. Once we told him we had come there for a birthday, he pulled out all the stops; song, cake, signed recipe book and some of the warmest hospitality ive ever seen. The food was epic, it does not matter what you order. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable experience and a brilliant feed.

When your experience at a restaurant starts with the owner coming outside and showing you to your car park you know you’re onto a winner. When you walk through the door and the smell of cinnamon, sizzling lamb and roasted almonds wafts over you, you know your food is going to be spectacular. And when the owner stays open 1 hour later for you to show you how he makes a traditional Moroccan breakfast spread, you know you’re going to bring your friends, family and anyone you can brag to, to Marrakech Restaurant. This tiny little restaurant has been opened 3 years and it is no wonder they are still almost booked out every night of the week. Mohammed, the owner, is from Morocco and, if you let him, he will sit down before, after or during your meal to tell you about tales of his life in Adelaide, his 10 brothers and sisters or where he formed a love for cooking. Our group arrived for a light shared dinner on a weeknight and ended up being sold on a feast of tagines, mezze plates, Bastilla chicken pie(just to try) and cous cous. You feel like you are part of the family an offending Mohammed if you don’t take extra food! Cinnamon, icing sugar and chicken sounds like something an inexperienced bachelor would cook at home but man does this combination in pie form send your taste buds screaming for more. Now I’m not a lamb fan but the lamb tagine with prunes and almonds was so soft and well cooked it would convert any non-meat eater. The Barramundi fish tagine was spicy, chunky and full of flavour. Each tagine dish is served with homemade Moroccan bread(which Mohammed will show you how to use). And when you think you are well and truly stuffed he will serve you up Mint Tea and have a chat with you at the en of your meal. I could rave about this place for hours(literally the same amount of time we ended up spending in this restaurant) but I won’t. Don’t question it, just go there and get those slow cooked juices into you!

Great restaurant. Delicious food. Very friendly staff, Mohammed, the owner greeted us and seated us. On our way out after the evening meal, he also gave us a spray of rosewater, which was rather pleasant custom. He was entertaining and ensured that we had a positive experience. Great location near the city. A lot of tasty morrocan cuisine is on offer and it is definitely one of those places where you want to go back and have a few more dishes on the menu because everything tastes and looks so good. I had the chicken kebabs with saffron rice and salad, and the use of spices and taste was absolutely incredible. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and definitely would come back here again to enjoy another dish off the menu. The Moroccan bread was definitely a highlight as it is tasty, warm and tastes fresh, it is very fluffy on the palate and goes along well when it comes to sucking up all the excellent flavors and sauce in the tagines. Next time, I definitely want to try one of their tagines, they are very nicely presented.

As cliché as it sounds, this place is ‘authentic’ Moroccan cuisine. We’re not talking a half baked mix of Australian tastes with North African spices and cous cous, oh no. This is as real as you’ll get outside of Morocco. The guy running the place is originally from Marrakech, and a pretty nice chap. He’s all about hospitality and will likely greet you and show you a table when you come in. The time I went there he even sat down with us and had some tea brought over while he chatted about Adelaide and how he ended up here. The menu is a tradtional and varied pick across Moroccan dishes, but the standout are the tagines. For those not in the know, a tagine is a dish of meat like lamb or chicken slow cooked with spices and vegetables in a terracota pot with a small chimney on top. The result of a few hours of cooking is some of the tenderest, flavoursome meat and broth you could ever expect to be put in front of you. Served with cous cous to make sure you don’t lose a drop of the juice, tagine is the bomb. Marrakech has it down pat. The dining room is littered with Moroccan treasures and decorations, and filled with the aroma of brilliant cuisine. A great setting to enjoy a fantastic meal. The prices aren’t cheap, but long after the cash is forgotten the food will be remembered.
