This place is a little café on King William Rd(Hyde Park end — the fancy end) — but wait — it’s also a little shop too! I popped in here for some takeaway coffee and a treat one Saturday morning and loved that I was able to do one of my favourite things while waiting… shop! Well, browse at least. Lovely home wares, scarves, jewellery, art and general pretty bits and bobs. Coffee was great also — not bitter at all and I didn’t even need to add sugar! I also snapped up an amazing looking bit of damper — looked like a scone on steroids! Took my goodies home to my man in bed and boy did he devour the damper. Seriously, melt in your mouth deliciousness. I have gone back twice now just to get that giant scone again, and even took my parents there while they were visiting from interstate. There is a big bench/table which has fresh newspapers — perfect to catch up on daily news while sipping your latte and people watching. I haven’t had a sit down breakfast there, but am hoping to try sometime soon. There fresh juices are also very refreshing! Yummy. Now I want that giant damper-scone.

Saffron Sky is an eerily quiet café/knick-knackery homewares store on the prim and proper King William Road. Situated between two stock standards of King William ness, the café oozes hipster chic and cool. The food selection is excellent and the breakfast menu will leave no one disappointed. But perhaps my favourite part of this rockin’ café is the amazin’ cakes and tarts. The baking here is top notch and I could quite happily eat nothing but baked goods here. The vibe is cool, the food is awesome and the staff are friendly and chatty. My fave place on the King Will strip.

Totally fabulous coffee! Breakfast was also delicious, but for two of us it was quite expensive. Not an everyday location, but definitely one for a quick coffee, or a special breakfast or lunch out. The décor and ambience of the place is fabulous, with cool wares to browse and purchase at the back.

I love that they have a gift store embedded in the café, it makes the wait for the coffee bearable, and you get to look around at cool hand-made items! They seem to have a little thing for elephants, which incidentally, I do too! The items are not really within my price range(sigh) but it’s all very quirky and pretty.

Saffron Sky is like a place where everybody knows your name and their glad you came. You walk in to bright, bubbling café with a blackboard introducing you to «your barista for the day,» and a staff of girls and guys who must all be in their very early 20’s. The refrigerated cabinets are a great way to pick and choose your light lunch, however they also have a blackboard menu of breakfast and snack offerings. Who knew spinach came in falafel form and lamb shanks came in pies? I was impressed by the freshness of food, its pricing and the speed of service. Coffee is Five Senses, which is always a plus, but the last time I was there they weren’t using Bonsoy(but doesn’t seem to be much of a problem if the right barista is behind the coffee machine). You’ll spend the entire time your there trying to work(with free wi-fi on offer) but instead will stare at their shelves of organic and fair trade produce, browse their gorgeous gift shop full of internationally and locally made fair trade home wares, jewellery, cushions, scarves and greeting cards — and probably end up spending more money than just your coffee and snack! A great little concept store that has some wonderful stories behind the gifts and art work on the walls — ask Julie to spin you a yarn and she’ll show how and why she is passionate about the artists she sources from!
