Set against the suburban backdrop, Café @ Kitchener is an old converted home that boasts a couple of good-sized rooms on the inside and an alfresco area for the rituals of the eat and the drink. I’ve driven past a couple of times in the past month and it has been closed, this time, the signs are out and there are some people behind the counter. I look up at the board and there are no prices next to anything. I ask the guy, Rabi, how much is a coffee and he informs me that they are $ 4 for a large. While making my coffee Rabi apologises for the seeming unorganised nature of the café and tells me that they(him and the guy in the kitchen) have just bought this place. Rabi encourages me to try one of the burgers not currently displayed, informing me that the meat patty is freshly ground and a specialty of the cook’s. I agree and hand over $ 10. So I wait, sit and sip my coffee until a burger, stocked with cheese, salad and bacon arrives at my table. I smell it its delicious, I bite into it and Rabi is right, this meat patty is a special one. I finish and walk away keen to come back, but maybe when Rabi and the cook have got everything locked down.
