Description

Specialties

Jim Philp personally attends to garden lighting for special events in the gardens of private homes, other favourable locations might be suitably landscaped schools, businesses and function venues. Chinese rice paper lanterns, fairylights and uplights and downlights are used to reveal to your guests a magical space to enjoy wedding receptions, anniversaries, birthdays, and we have a proven track record in providing a successfull atmosphere for up-market cocktail party fund raisers. We have also had favourable results for indoor venues, especially where there are open beam ceilings and with substantial potted trees and vine standards. A lot of care and experience in the area of temporary outdoor power distribution, combined with a concern for unobtrusive, non-glary illumination and spectacular and aestheticly pleasing combinations of lights that consider your guests movements, safety, and comfort for the whole duration of your event — as well as that of other event staff. We have photos!

History

Established in 1971.

Jim Philp and his brother Ross Philp started «Gridleys Light and Sound» in 1971 to explore the potential of supplying lights and sound for large functions (now known as dance parties) private parties, balls and corporate functions, with a strong showing in psychedelic projections using our own hand made projectors, slides, oil-liquid and motorized effects, unique keyboard controlled light dimmers, as well as filling a need for low cost lighting for small theatrical performances in schools, churches and tertiary institutions, particularly the Art College and the University of Queensland. Ross went on to establish his own business «Ross Philp Production Services» and among many other jobs supplied lighting for the Mirage Resort launches and was resident lighting man for the final years of Cloudland Ballroom in Bowen Hills. Jim Philp expanded into hire and sales in the Disco era and took up Garden Lighting in 1986. During the next 20 years the business became more specialised in gardens.
