Simply put, this is my favorite bookstore in the world. I first visited in 2006, when I was on the train from Cottlesloe beach to downtown Perth. I saw the name from the street, and because it was rather serendipitous, and I love bookstores, I got out and walked over. I ended up not buying a book during my first visit, but browsing through a first edition copy of TE Lawrence’s «Seven Pillars of Wisdom». As a student, it was priced somewhat out of my reach, but during a next visit I bought a copy of Graves’ «Lawrence and the Arabs», which I devoured. It led to a passion for books about him, and even an overland trip to Syria following his tracks in 2008. Overall, I consider this store a little piece of magic because every single time I’ve been there, they have something which has led to me rethinking part of the human condition. Their service is fantastic, the owners are incredibly friendly and helpful, and they’re willing to go the extra mile to pack and ship you things when you ask. I no longer live in Perth, but when I visit, I drop by without exception.
